Walking into The Woodstock Arms for the first time is an experience in itself. Compared to many of the bijou bars in South Manchester, this place is huge. It’s glamorous, too, in a country chic kind of way, with vast polished wooden tables rubbing shoulders with chandeliers over two floors, deep button-back armchairs and plenty of artfully-sectioned areas to gather with friends. This is most definitely a socialising space, popular with post-work professionals and the weekend crowd who come for the fabulous food and huge drinks list which features ales, fine wines and cocktails galore (the Bloody Marys are superb). There is a bar on both floors - but the top bar only opens when really busy.
The bar snacks here are pretty special (fresh deep-fried whitebait, Scotch eggs etc), but the main menu itself is more like that of a good restaurant than a pub - with prices to match. The crowning glory of The Woodstock is the outside garden seating area, complete with patio heaters and giant umbrellas to keep the Manchester weather at bay, whatever the time of year… the pub runs regular events throughout the year when they invite down big-name DJs - and the Tuesday night quizzes are legendary!
A word from the chef:
A well-thought out menu based around familiar pub favourites and seasonal dishes, as well as a killer choice of Sunday roasts (beef, chicken, Norfolk pork and cashew, and walnut and cheddar nut roast) and hot bar snacks, including whitebait, baked brie and Scotch eggs.
