Manchester Could Be Getting A World-Class Surfing Lagoon

Wavegarden Surf Park Trafford Manchester | DesignMyNight

With the sport growing in popularity all over the world, Manchester is looking to get in on the action.

A £60 million urban surf park may be on its way to TraffordCity – the first of its kind in the North West. Using groundbreaking Wavegarden technology, Modern Surf will summon up perfect waves every few seconds. These man-made tides can then be changed to suit all skill levels, whether you’re a serious pro surfer or a newbie looking to cut your teeth.

While the McKinney Group’s application to build is currently being looked over by the council, we can anticipate that the new surf lagoon will start making waves in 2023. It's not just watersports on offer though, as the world-class facility will boast bouldering walls, fitness zones, pop-up beach bars serving up ice cold bevs, a café and a terrace restaurant.

Modern Surf is set to launch in Peel L&P's Brownfield site, just off Barton Rock Road, Trafford Park in 2023. Can't wait until then? Discover our pick of the best things to do outdoors in Manchester here.
