Join us in Brompton Cemetery, as the players of Don't Go Into the Cellar perform a selection of unsettling tales of antiquarian terror from the master of the macabre M. R. James. In "An Episode of Cathedral History" renovations to a cathedral unearth a long-hidden tomb. Shortly after its discovery, those living near to the cathedral begin to suffer from terrifying nightmares, fall sick and die. Who is the mysterious occupant of the tomb? Next "A Warning to the Curious” tells of a young antiquary and archaeologist named Paxton, who stumbles upon the legend of three ancient buried crowns that protect England from invasion, with a grisly fate in store for any mortal who dares disturb them.

In the guttering light of the candles try not to think of the 35,000 cadavers who may be eavesdropping outside. Definitely not an experience for the faint of heart.

DON'T GO INTO THE CELLAR

Don't Go into the Cellar is heralded as the UK’s finest practitioners of theatrical Victoriana in a macabre vein. Jonathan Goodwin plays M R James in this one-man show scripted by himself and directed by himself and Gary Archer.
