There is a rattle and hiss as a Subway train hurtles by, the painted metal a riot of colour - a speeding canvas for guerilla artists against the smoking cityscape. This is The Big Apple 1977 and the city is on fire.

In the Bronx, a new kind of hybrid music - a DIY collage of looped Funk and Disco breaks that will one day dominate the sonic landscape - is being born on street corners and in makeshift dance halls. They call it Hip Hop.

In Central Manhattan the lights of Broadway shine down on the throngs clamouring outside Studio 54, as inside Warhol gets down with Grace Jones, and the stars swing from the mirror balls and dance, ankle deep, in glitter.

The word is out - there's a block party in Harlem tonight, and you jump the barriers and head Uptown. You get off at 125th street, the bass making the pavement beneath your feet shudder as you head towards the sound. There's electricity in the air tonight and the streets themselves feel alive - because this the city that never sleeps, where the party never stops and the night is always young.

Join us this winter as we turn our rooftop space in Brixton into a scene from New York in the 1970s; drawing inspiration from iconic venues such as Studio 54 and the Harlem Apollo we are taking you across the pond and back in time with a selection of themed bars, a night club, private rooms and New York inspired street food.

Thursdays: 6pm - 11pm

Fridays: 6pm - 12am

Saturdays: 5pm - 12am

Our 1,000 capacity venue plays host a selection of themed bars and a night club:

Le Freak (night club): A glittering mirror ball playground, inspired by the legendary Studio 54.

Brixton Apollo (bar / club): An art deco homage to Harlem’s iconic Apollo Theatre: ‘Where stars are born and legends are made’.

Club Rapture (bar): A punk rock palace - The grubby jewell in the crown of the Lower Eastside scene.

Coldharbour Cafe (bar): Prop up the counter of a quintessential New York diner.

Record Store (20 capacity): A vinyl junkies paradise (20 capacity).

Barber Shop (20 capacity): A note-perfect downtown barber shop (20 capacity).

Peep Show (20 capacity): Your own personal peepshow complete with pole! (20 capacity).

Latino Chapel (20 capacity): A Latin-flavoured gospel church (20 capacity).

Club Rapture (100 capacity): A punk rock palace - The grubby jewell in the crown of the Lower Eastside scene (100 capacity).

Coldharbour Cafe (150 capacity): Prop up the counter of a quintessential New York diner.

We welcome a host of New York inspired street food:

Mac to the Future: Returning back to our rooftop with their macaroni-cheese delights.

Burger Bear: Street food heroes serving up their dangerously delicious beef burgers.

Grandmaster Slice: Traditional NYC style pizzas

Plucky's: Chicken and Halloumi treats

A cool venue! Best bit was when the nightclub opened up, had a great 70's disco feel! A decent selection of food and drinks too! Delilah visited Big Apple Brixton on 26 Nov 2016

I came here on NYE and was highly unimpressed. The 'rooftop vibe' seems to have been an excuse to do very little with the space, as the bathrooms consist of a wooden shack and there is no cloakroom. To make matters worse I queued at the bar for over 30 minutes before spending the countdown to midnight watching London's two most incompetent bar staff high five each instead of pouring my drinks. Can't believe I paid to come here! Calum visited Big Apple Brixton on 31 Dec 2016

Great New Year's Eve party. Food was amazing - we had grandmaster slice and mac to the future, both are highly recommended. And brilliant atmosphere too, different to the usual NYE parties. Would definitely go back again. Victoria visited Big Apple Brixton on 31 Dec 2016

Great food, great decor and an amazing vibe. Really chilled out place to hang out with friends and maybe meet some new people. The music was perfect for the setting- the perfect mix of chilled and danceable to create a good social environment. It's a fun set up so there are good Insta opportunities here. There aren't many food stalls but the ones on offer all looked delicious. I personally recommend the chicken and halloumi nuggets

An enjoyable evening, amazing display, great food/drinks which were reasonably priced. Venue was semi-indoors which meant I could enjoy the evening without getting cold. However, I have been to markets just as impressive and definitely bigger with free entry. Due to this reason + location, I personally would not give Big Apple Brixton a 5-star rating. I had a whole weekend mapped out of activities for my partners birthday, o used design my night to help come up with the things to do, however, design my night advertised big Apple brixton incorrectly and it wasn't running that day which scuppoured a lot of plans and was very disappointing. What's frustrating is that design my night allowed me to book a Sunday, still have the confirmation email, when it wasn't running. This was very disappointing and left 3 hour gap in the day, safe to say I would be using here again. My advice, triple check not using this website if you are going to use it. Really cool venue!! a little Mini Manhattan in the middle of this vibrant area in brixton! You can rather chill in the cozy rooms like in the style of a barber shop, have a new york style street food on the "street" or get crazy at the show! good evening! :) Johanna visited Big Apple Brixton on 03 Dec 2016

We arrived at the event with two small children having not read the ts & cs that no under 18s were allowed, rather than turning us away the door staff said they would speak to the management, a very nice chap came out who said it would be fine to stay as long as we left before 8. Once inside I was really impressed by the way they'd set the venue up with a great Chrismassy vibe, my daughter even got free face painting. Definitely recommend, great management.
