Little Nan's Cocktail Den - Pop-Up Bar Review

What do you think of when your Nan springs to mind? For me it was budgies, chest clenching honesty, snow globes and that one time she chased a field full of cows on my bike. Didn't care too much for a cow my Nanna. For Tristan Scutt, it's a junkyard...

My review is rather late; I came here for my birthday (in June) with my boyfriend. This place was absolutely wonderful an so quirky. We were a little early but our table was ready and waiting for us. The staff were absolutely delightful and very helpful. We ordered quite a few cocktails (8 in total) and they were all fantastic; fantastic names and brilliant flavours! Definitely worth a visit to experience this unique little place :)

A really quirky place to have a drink , really nice staff and really worth a drink in , the cocktails are lovely! If you want something completely out of this world and off the wall then this is a great place to try.

Had a amazing night, staff were very friendly & they made the place look like another world!! Went with a few girlfriends, took loads of pics with all the quirky things scattered around the place, they had a photo booth too, & the jerk chicken from the shack outside was gorgeous...... A good fun night out, well worth a visit :)) x

Decoration and music were amazing, but the place was extremely hot and stuffy. We were in a corner with no place to put our drinks on. Cocktails were not excellent but have many choices. Overall, a great idea but overpriced
15 Aug 2015 by saratustra

It was really dark, hot and stuffy and was seated in the corner with no room to even put our drinks down. We were also right by the door and staff from the restaurant upstairs kept walking past with things from the kitchen which was also distracting and ruined the atmosphere. The cocktails were okay but nothing special - just feels like another place trying to do something different to be quirky and cool but in reality it was not worth the money.

Amazing venue and very quirky, the staff are friendly and make sure you have a great evening. Huge choice of cocktails and they will make up different ones if you ask. Would visit again.

Really liked the venue, the atmosphere was also great. Our first round of cocktails were amazing but on the second round none of us liked two out of the three. This seemed to offend one of the waitresses. We only got offered one extra small half cocktail ten minutes before we were due to leave. Overall we did only really drink 4 1/2 cocktails between three of us. We went for the £35 deal and I felt there was less choice so suggest paying the extra £10 and going as a bigger group so you have more options to choose from.

I was expecting this to be quirky in a shabby chic way not a trashy kitsch way. The idea is great but several things let it down. The pluses: The cocktails were great. The service was friendly. The music was great Sadly there are a few more negatives. The first thing you notice is the musty smell - possibly because they've taken every single decorative item they could find in junk stores and crammed it into the room. Some of it is kitsch, some of it is just plain freaky. The room is really over crowded with stuff. I get it's supposed to be your Nan's place but even Nans leave themselves room to move Whilst it's kind of cool to have an old suitcase acting as a seat the novelty wears thin after a while as they are hard! Also none of the seats seemed to be at the same level so my friend sat 4 inches higher than me. My teapot had a broken spout so spilled and dripped everywhere each time I poured it out. We had to use our hands for the pick and mix, as did everyone else there. I only had one lot. The popcorn was a sorry layer in the bottom of the machine about 1/2 an inch thick. No fresh was made while we were there. The cocktail menus are seemingly hand written and not very well, so were hard to read. I was on the whole disappointed with Nan's. The idea is great, just poorly executed. The three stars is for the tasty cocktails and the happy service.

Was looking for a unique place to go for my birthday..this ticked the box perfectly. It was much smaller than i had anticipated however it was very cosy and they played good music. They had even created a cocktail for my birthday and had it ready and waiting so didnt take long to get our first drinks, i was also given a card with the recipe which was great! i can't wait to make my own batch :) This is a very quirky place, if you dont take yourself seriously, looking for quirkiness - then come here. I would recommend having an open mind about the cocktails - there are a heck of alot on offer, and are quite strong (which is great!) but prepare to maybe not like all of them as they are all very unique, for me that was the fun - each one was an experiment..Thanks Little Nans!

Fun, quirky night out. The place does seem to be very short staffed (but they are very friendly) and it did take us a good 20 minutes to get served your teapot of cocktails. So I would recommend ordering one teapot per person, which luckily we did, otherwise you wouldn't really get your money's worth of drinks in the 2 hour slot. Would definitely recommend as something different to do for an evening out.
03 Aug 2015 by sarahnauj

Cool and quirky, great concept. Had the £45 deal, bottomless teapots were in full flow and we managed to try plenty in the 2 hours. The personalised cocktail was also a great idea. Totally recommend for a different night out.
02 Aug 2015 by Emmylou22

The night got off to a disappointing start because it took at least 10 minutes for us to get served, we were a table of 6 in a very cramped space and the table next to us was very noisy. The night got better once we moved to a more spacious table and the noisy table left. However it is generally hot and cramped in there. The cocktails were delicious if not a bit sickly- the bar staff let us pretty much design our own drinks. The staff were absolutely lovely but a bit rushed off their feet and they had to climb over people and chairs to serve cocktails because of how cramped it is. I would strongly recommend they provide shovels/ tongs for the pic n mix as everyone just used their hands which was pretty gross. Overall the night was great fun and we loved all the different teapots and memorabilia around the room.

Booked an evening for a myself and a friend for her birthday. Really enjoyed our evening, the cocktails were lush and the guy running it was a diamond. Would definitely recommend

Lovely quirky little bar, lots of interesting decor and little touches around. Staff were friendly and there was a good atmosphere. There was a good range of drinks, pricey for what you get but as a treat for a special occasion it was fun. The only downside was that it was very crowded and hot - even with 2 no-shows in our group, we were very crammed in so I don't know how we would have fitted if everyone had come. At one point we were told we were blocking another group and were asked to split over 2 tables, but we managed to compromise. Overall though, a great little find.

We had a real fun experience! Staff were really friendly and made us feel very welcome. A real quirky bar and great if your looking for something a little bit different.

Great little venue, friendly atmosphere and great cocktails. Loved all the little touches (crazy decor and teacups with oversized teapots). Cannot wait to go back maybe for afternoon tea next time?

If you want a different and unique bar experience then head to Little Nan's. With vintage and crazy decor, cocktails in teapots and teacups accompanied by unlimited visits to the popcorn vending machine and pick n mix, it is sure to be a fun night out. Great to kickstart the night.

Great night out. Staff really friendly. Quirky basement. Like the free sweets and popcorn. Need one or two more fans really warm. Cocktails ok some better than others but overall a great night out.

We had an amazing evening here at Little Nan's. Tristan was a wonderful host, the cocktails were absolutely delicious, the decor hilarious (flamingo hats anyone?). I loved being able to pick my own teacup. Pick n Mix was fab. Great night, great idea :)
29 Jun 2015 by Tea_Monsterr

We really enjoyed this night! The cocktails were delicious and the presentation was lovely. We were conveniently seated next to the pick n mix and popcorn table-a great added touch!
29 Jun 2015 by charlottewoolley

Quite overpriced. Appreicated the staff who were friendly. Most of the drinks have prosecco (almsot forcing you for the more expensive option), and although it was a cute theme when you think about what else you can do for £45 in 2 hours would consider not especially good value for money
29 Jun 2015 by pj12345

Had the BEST time here. Staff are so friendly and welcoming. Decor & music were fab and the cocktails were dangerously tasty. Really fun speakeasy vibes without the usual Shoreditch pretentiousness & price tag. Will definitely be back :)
28 Jun 2015 by bellamarie1

Great fun! Very quirky and cute, there was such a friendly atmosphere. Loved the cuddly toys and the wigs left around the room. All the cocktails were ones I had never heard of too! Brilliant evening.
23 Jun 2015 by gabbyr

Had a really fun evening. The cocktails were GREAT! Great price for what you get! The pic n mix is pretty damn tasty too! Definitely worth it! Such a great idea!
22 Jun 2015 by lydiaawest

A fun, quirky and very different night out. It delivered everything it promised and made a great night. Be warned, it is very loud and claustrophobic if that bothers you. A little pricey but I'd still highly recommend. Many thanks guys!
20 Jun 2015 by Manors22

Would highly recommend my little nans cocktail den. Had a lot of fun with the fantastic decor, wonderful teapots of cocktails, light snacks and relaxed staff. Definitely worth every penny!
19 Jun 2015 by BonnieBrittle

The venue was as expected and well done, nice touches included the crazy tea pots and choosing your own cup and saucer. The service was good. We loved our commissioned cocktail for our friends hen but the others were sadly disappointing and more savoury nibbles would have been welcome. Felt a little disappointed overall, sorry.
15 Jun 2015 by shelxx

We went as part of a hen do of 7 and had a great time. The place it's really quirky and special, and the cocktails are really good. Bottomless cocktails and pick-n-mix are a total winner. Everybody loved it and it was the perfect plan for the day. Will definitely try to go again before it's gone. Thanks guys.

Cool & quirky run by a nice bunch of girls, well worth a visit for a pot or 4. We were on a tight time Schedule but would have loved to stay & try to work out way through the crazy cocktail list .
08 Jun 2015 by toddy

Great little venue and staff were brilliant and friendly. My girlfriend loved her personal cocktail. Not suitable for anyone tall (I'm 6 foot 2 and it was a bit of a struggle!) Thanks Tristan and co.
08 Jun 2015 by Adam

Had an absolute time of it here a week or so back. Staff were as lovely as the interiors, and it's slap up value for money considering the cocktails are bottomless. Thanks Tristan!
08 Jun 2015 by Katie

Such a cool idea! This place isa hhidden gem I loved it all. Definitely a place to go. Their collection of tea pots is impressive and cocktails are delicious. Will be back.
07 Jun 2015 by staceyff

I love Little Nans Bar. No matter where it pops up, the atmosphere is always spot on, fun, chilled and welcoming. It helps that Tristan, the organiser, is an awesome fella.
05 Jun 2015 by HannahFoulds

Fun place! Especially while going through this building being renovated, you don't expect to find a cute, very pink tea place ('tea') in the basement! Lots of fun accessories for brilliant pictures. Only thing I would say is make sure you don't wear too many clothes, as it's reaaaally warm. But, cocktails were good, company was great and the hostess was a very nice young lady with good customer service! Also, bonus points for the amazing tea cups!
01 Jun 2015 by nickee92

Cute venue but thought the cocktails were pretty average, very fruity and the pick and mix was a little sad looking. We hoped to pay less as we wanted to leave early because of the average cocktails but still had to pay £35 due to eating £5 worth of candy

Another fabulous little Nan's experience! The hidden away secret den was so cosy and the cocktails were lethal as always; fruity yet deadly! I loved the garden theme decor and the friendly staff and fun music made me feel so relaxed and at home. So much choice on the menu and to top it all off - free pick and mix!!!

Little Nan's, BIG PARTY! Little Nan's is Shoreditch is like the well loved Deptford incarnation but even better which I never dreamed would be possible. Grandson Tristan has created a kitsch, comfy, cosy and spectacular front room that makes you grin from ear to ear as soon as you see enter its magical wonderland. I've introduced so may friends to Little Nan's pop ups in South East London and made many more there. It just gets better and better. The bottomless cocktails packages are a fantastic idea as they guarantee you have a space at the coolest cocktail den in Shoreditch and means you don't need to worry about overspending. After downing two delicious pots of cocktails and munching a handful of pic 'n' mix (sweet and savoury) and popcorn it's apparent what a great deal this is. You've already saved money without even realising and there's no need to worry about who needs to go to the bar for the next round as the delightful and helpful staff, all part of Little Nan's extended family, are on hand to help. I definitely echo the comments of tomhenri below, Little Nan's is a kitsch, kooky, funky and different space to enjoy with friends. Nan will always make you feel welcome. AIN'T NO PARTY LIKE MY LITTLE NAN'S TEA PARTY! x

Been going to Nan's in all its incarnations since Bunker Club. Safe to say, Curtain Road is my all time fave- amazing decor!!! the same happy staff, the COCKTAILS, the teapots... The bar is cosy, playlists are inspired, choice of cocktails is pretty much endless, Tristan, the grandson, made us a bespoke cocktail for my friend's birthday, named after her of course. very very cool. NAN, i LOVE yous!! x

I had my first visit to little nans on Saturday night, I wasn't too sure what to expect but had a really good time! I was visiting friends in London for the weekend who have been before, but our waitress was more than helpful so would have felt comfortable even without friends who knew the score. The concept is great fun and the fact that you a guaranteed a seat even in such a small space was perfect for catching up woth friends. As the space is limited you do have to squeeze in somewhat, but that was obvious As Soon as you arrive and is as described above. The cocktails Are well made and by the end of our sitting, we certainly were feeling the effects! Will certainly recommend as a great idea!

Just want to say what a great time we had at Lil' Nan's on Saturday. As a veteran of the original Lil'Nan's in Deptford I entered the venue with knowledge of the concept. The difference with the current iteration of LN's is that you don't pay for your teapots of cocktails, you pay to be seated for two hours. This works well in a venue of this size (I guess the capacity is about 40 or so). Each party is given a pad of post it notes and a pen to which to write down your order. We initially ordered two teapots between the four of us. When the waiter came back with the first two teapots, we immediately handed her another post it with two more teapots. This 'conveyor belt' method of ordering, was not frowned on at all and the drinks just kept on coming! It is unfortunate the person who wrote the review below did not have a good time. I think we were sat on a table with her and her partner. All I can add to their review is that LN's cocktails do not taste very alcoholic, but they deceptively 'hit the spot'. We found the pick and mix and didn't find it a problem to help ourselves from the other room. Basically it part art installation, part kitsch party venue, it's not to be taken too seriously
