A Live, Illustrated Zoom Talk with Dame Sue Black
Our bones are the silent witnesses to the lives we lead. Our stories are marbled into their marrow.
In this talk, Dame Sue Black draws upon her years of research and experience as a world-renowned forensic anthropologist, to take us a journey of revelation. From skull to feet, via the face, spine, chest, arms, hands, pelvis and legs, she will show us that each bone has a tale to tell. What we eat, where we go, everything we do leaves a trace, a message that waits patiently for months, years, sometimes centuries, until a forensic anthropologist is called upon to decipher it.
Some of this information is easily understood, some holds its secrets tight and needs scientific cajoling to be released. But by carefully piecing together the evidence, the facts of a life can be rebuilt. Limb by limb, case by case - some criminal, some historical, some unaccountably bizarre - Sue Black will reconstruct with intimate sensitivity and compassion the hidden stories in what we leave behind.

Dame Professor Sue Black
Sue Black is a world-renowned forensic anthropologist. Her expertise has been crucial in a number of high profile crimimal cases including the conviction of Scotland’s largest paedophile ring in 2009, and in 1999 she headed the British forensic team’s exhumation of mass graves in Kosovo. She was awarded an OBE in 2001 for her work in Kosovo and was given a knighthood in 2016 for services to forensic anthropology.
PLEASE NOTE - This talk will take place virtually via Zoom. Ticket sales will end at 5:00 pm BST on the day of the lecture. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
6. Every effort to admit latecomers will be made at a suitable break in the event, but admission cannot always be guaranteed.
7. We regret that tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase.
