We're excited to announce the next Hackoustic Presents of 2018 with an incredible lineup of performances, installations and presentations. This time we'll be traveling to CERN, exploring the sounds and histories of London using the earth and artifacts born from it and talking about the past and future of interactive music. It's going to be a great one, so get your tickets quick!

Jack Jelfs will be talking about his recent residency at CERN in collaboration with Haroon Mirza.

Smokey, the Genius Loci of the Thames: After centuries of submersion he emerges onto the foreshore to communicate with us through sounds he has collected from past peoples - Ashleigh Fisk and Adam Paroussos

Bo Keeney will present the latest iteration of his incredible gestural instrument as well as talking about the history and current state of interactive music 'as a standalone'

Andrea Guidi  will be exploring the boundary between physical and digital experience with his installation DataDreaming.

We'll also have interactive installations from Vulpestruments and Tim Yates, an instrument building workshop , and of course no Hackoustic event would be complete without our resident and most wonderful DJ #BarrysLounge spinning discs for us.

Jack Jelfs is an artist based in London, whose work combines sculptural, video and text elements with electronics and live performance. He has released music under various aliases and performed or exhibited at venues including Lisson Gallery, Tate Modern, the Barbican, Serpentine Gallery and the Roundhouse. In 2017 he was the joint recipient (with Haroon Mirza) of the COLLIDE International Award, a two month residency at CERN. Recent work includes The Wave Epoch, a collaboration with Haroon Mirza, GAIKA and Elijah, which premiered at the 2018 Brighton Festival; another work made with Mirza will feature in Broken Symmetries, a group show that opens at Liverpool's FACT in November 2018. He has a BA Philosophy and English Literature from the University of Liverpool and an MSci in Physics with Theoretical Physics from Imperial College London.

Ashleigh Fisk is currently studying BA Fine Art at Slade School of Fine Arts. As a multi-media artist, her work spans performance, sound, painting, ceramics, sculpture and video. She is currently investigating the use of ceramics to create sound and instruments, much of her inspiration stemming from ceramic artefacts found while mudlarking on the Thames foreshore.

Her work concerns the 'All Man', revealing the universal experience of inhabiting a body; both inanimate and animate. Historical characters, artefacts, symbols, places and stories create parallels that connect our bodies to our ancestors.

Adam Paroussos is a sound artist and composer, just graduated from Central Saint Martins. He performs in the cracks and corners of London as ‘Bamboo Mustard’ in a sound costume with self-made instruments and embraces audience participation and improvisation. These performances attempt to embody the raw elements of sound and vibration and strive to create an environment of communal expression, connectivity and spontaneous music making. Adam works across theatre, live art and film including composing the soundtrack for Andrea Zimmerman’s ‘Erase and Forget’ documentary and Jotdown’s physical theatre show ‘Haidar’. In this performance he'll be bringing Smokey to life.

Bo Keeney is a musician and technologist. Having founded and facilitated London Interactive Music Meetup since 2016, he creates generative, adaptive and other non-linear forms of music. As an artist with Universal Music Group and several other labels, he released over 13 EPs and albums, with over 300 performances across the UK, eventually forming Reciprocal Music to research and produce new forms of music that respond to the listener in real-time. He formed Interactive Music Meetup to gather London’s interactive music practitioners and enthusiasts together, and organised 18 IMM events in 2016/17, including the Interactive Music Summit at Google Campus. He paused the group in late 2017 todesign, build and perform with a gesture-controlled electronic instrument, governed by a program written for the audio/sensor system Bela in Pure Data and C++. Along with a demonstration of a new iteration of his performing instrument, he'll present an overview of the history and current state of interactive music 'as a standalone': recorded music that responds to the listener, their movements and real-world environment.

Andrea Guidi is an artist and designer of sounding instruments. He is part of the Augmented Instruments Instruments Lab at the Queen Mary University of London. He also composed and produced electronic music with Orax and Too Young To Love (signed to EMU Publishing and released by different labels between 2009 and 2011). A short list of the festivals where he performed includes: Isle of Wight Festival 2011, Exit Festival 2010, Kendal Calling 2010.

In DataDreaming a wood object acts as a phygital interface to manipulate pixels and audio grains. The dualism between physical and digital is enhanced by interacting with different renders of physical objects. The interface reflect and describes the increasing blending of digital and physical experiences.
