The Music of Charles Mingus
Led by double bassist Ed Babar, Blues and Roots Ensemble captures the spirit of the great Mingus bands through their energetic performances that include everything from raucous open improvisation sections to soulful ballad playing, all within the context of Mingus' classic compositions. The band performs original and creative arrangements of Mingus' music, from his earliest blues influences to his advanced, socially inspired compositions from the 50s - 70s.

Formed in 2016 and with a line up of diverse, internationally renowned musicians - Blues and Roots Ensemble's purpose is the spread the music of the great bassist Charles Mingus through performances and education projects. The band has quickly grown a reputation for its captivating performances, selling out shows across some of the UK's most prestigious jazz venues.
