Strazzanti - Sicilian Supper Club at Hackney City Farm
- Hackney City Farm
Strazzanti will host a Sicilian inspired supperclub at Hackney City Farm within the Farms barns. Started by sisters Emilia, Nina and Sofia, Strazzanti will collaborate with Frizzante, who run the farm café, and using East London supplies to host an evening which marries British and Sicilian ingredients and draws upon the nature and spirit of Sicily. 10% of the proceeds from the evening will go back to the farm itself, a registered charity, to help the local community, care for the animals and garden.
Feeding Londoners a true sample of Sicilian food the menu is heavily plant-based and vegetarian-friendly to reflect inland Sicily where cattle and seafood are scarce. Emilia & Frizzante will create the Strazzanti menu serving classic arancini with spinach & mozzarella as well as anchovies with butter and bread which will await guests as they arrive and enjoy their Our London Vodka welcome cocktail of British Elferflower from the Farm & Sicilian Lemon. Next up is the antipasti and sharing platters including fresh ricotta, Sicilian pistachio and fresh oregano on E5 Bakehouse sourdough; roasted peppers, pepperonata; grilled courgette with mint, chilli and garlic and Heritage tomatoes dressed with pesto Trapanese. In true Italian style, a pasta course follows with a sauce of juicy aubergines, salted ricotta & fresh handmade pasta. For dolce, Strazzanti will set up a whole dessert station featuring their famed pastries and cakes, including their pistachio and lemon cake.
Strazzanti wants to take advantage of all the lovely local produce and will be using east London suppliers and businesses to provide the English ingredients who have kindly contributed towards the dinner. E5 Roasthouse & Bakehouse in London Fields will provide the coffee & Hackney Wilde Sourdough Bread, vegetables from Dagenham Farm growing community down the road, herbs from the farm itself and the welcome cocktail from Our London Vodka based in Hackney Downs. Our London Vodka uses British wheat and has floral and citrus notes which match perfectly with the fresh, sweet and homely flavours of Sicily. Wine will be provided by Passione Vino, an Independent Italian wine shop and bar in Shoreditch who work with small artisan producers, bringing a little bit of Italy via east London.
The cafe will be decked out with an abundance of flowers, candles and foliage for the evening, transforming the space into a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Twinkling flames will juxtapose the large wooden mismatched tables in true supperclub style where guests will become acquainted with their neighbour for the evening in homage to the family which is at the heart of Strazzanti, and Italy’s, culture.
