Ever wanted to dine by candlelight with one of London’s most beautiful views? JOIA restaurant will be hosting its very first Blackout Dinner on February 21st 2024, as a way to see out Battersea’s annual Light Festival with a bang!


Join us on the 15th floor and take your seat as the restaurant is plunged into complete darkness, with hundreds of candles and the unbeatable views of London’s skyline and iconic Battersea Power Station chimneys as the only source of light.


Head Chef Jose Jara has created a beautiful set menu for the evening costing £95pp and it includes a selection of signature JOIA petiscos and tapas to share, such as Iberico ham and Octopus salad followed by the Madeira-braised beef Featherblade and the Arroz De Marisco with Bomba rice, red prawns, mussels and razor clams.

    Give yourself time to find the venue because it’s not obvious - it’s in art’otel. The food was good. I asked to view the menu beforehand because I don’t eat meat and they emailed it over no problem. The starters are shared between two, and they were quite enjoyable. The bread is really nice. The main was also good. The dessert was great. The most disappointing thing about the experience was drinking two mocktails that were okay at best (90% ice, 10% mocktail) and being charged £30+ service fee. The service fee is for the meal and the drinks - so the ticket price includes the meal but not service charge. We weren’t aware of this so it was quite a shock because you think you might have a modest bill of £20 for drinks, it’s more like £60+!!! The service was fine but since when are we America and having to pay such an extortionate service fee?? It dampened the whole experience and we both felt it was not worth it because in the end, you’re out of pocket having spent a minimum £220 for two people for this. The movie was good - looks like they put it on via Netflix. We sat at the back and we could still see the screen. Didn’t have any popcorn because we were full from the meal but the hot chocolate - minimum £4.5 - was good. It was very, very windy and pretty cold in spite of having blankets to sit on, heaters overhead that were blowing about throughout the movie, and hot water bottles and hand warmers. There’s not much the event organisers can do beyond that, that’s just how it is so wrap up very warm. Overall an okay experience. Would we do it again? Absolutely not. While the event was well organised, honestly we were both looking forward to just going home and warming up. I also wouldn’t recommend this to anyone that I like. There are far better Christmas experiences to do in London that keep you warm and are a better value for money.

    Freezing cold and film didn’t start for 45 minutes - despite being rushed through dinner. Despite paying for the experience, was slapped with a 20% service charge tab. Would NOT recommend.
