We’re really excited to welcome textile designer and maker Tessa Layzelle for this unique workshop exploring a variety of hand crafts. Get experimental and hand decorate beautiful textiles before combining these with appliqué and quilting techniques to create your own fabric collage table mat. This workshop will run from 10am – 4pm.
About the Workshop
Suitable for makers wanting to try a new medium, complete beginners, experienced quilters wanting a fresh approach alike this is a fun, inclusive workshop with lots of room to experiment and challenge yourself.
Using simple mark making techniques, fabric dyes, crayons and inks you’ll develop a palette of hand-decorated fabrics to work with and Tessa will guide you through cutting and composing abstract fabric collages. After lunch you’ll learn simple appliqué techniques, how to layer, baste and translate this to a larger scale.
Following a short demonstration illustrating different quilting processes you’ll be guided though hand quilting and binding your fabulous creations ending up with a small hand painted and quilted mat to keep. You’ll also walk away with all the skills required to make your own appliqué whole-cloth quilt at home!
All materials and equipment are provided with the opportunity to take extra fabrics home for future projects.

3rd Rail Print Space is a brand new 4000sqft open access screen printing facility combining paper, t-shirt and fabric printing located in Peckham Levels, the refurbished multi storey car park. The aim of the space was to build a comprehensive print hub and modern learning environment to make screen printing accessible to a new audience whilst providing a wealth of equipment for those already working in the medium.

4. Occasionally, events are cancelled or postponed by the promoter, team, performer or venue for a variety of reasons. If the event is cancelled, please contact us for information on receiving a refund from the responsible party. If the event was moved or rescheduled, the venue or promoter may set refund limitations. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
6. Every effort to admit latecomers will be made at a suitable break in the event, but admission cannot always be guaranteed.
7. We regret that tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase.
