Description
Join Peculiar London for an immersive walking tour exploring the streets that inspired Dickens to write his most famous novel 'A Christmas Carol'.
The year is 1843 and Charles Dickens is in a bit of a pickle, his wife is pregnant for the 5th time, his latest novel Martin Chuzzlewit has flopped and he needs money fast, his publisher suggest that if he's quick he could get something out in time for Christmas, but what should he write about? he takes to the streets of Bank for inspiration...
Inspired by the real life circumstances in which Dickens created 'A Christmas Carol' join us we venture down the winding alleys of London's financial capital, beginning with an exculsive tour of the Geoge and Vulture pub - An ancient city institution which was a favourite haunt of Dickens; he once rented a room there, it is mentioned in several of his novels, and the decendants of the Dickens clan still gather there for Christmas dinner every year.
The Mangement have kindly agreed not just to let us pop in for a drink but also to visit Dickens old apartment above the pub and view their collection of Dickens memorablilia.
After that we will be taking to the streets to learn some fascinating facts about the history of the much loved story of 'The Christmas Carol' including the landmarks that have survived from Dicken's day, and the real life character that 'Scrooge' was based on.
