The Metal
Element: An Autumn Yin Yoga Workshop
Autumn is a wonderful time of year as we observe nature’s last
kaleidoscope hurrah as she sheds her finery in preparation for the
colder, darker months ahead. This symbolic gesture of letting go
invites us to strip ourselves back alongside nature. Not
surprisingly, the energetic movement of this season draws
everything downward … leaves leaving the trees, the sun lower on
the horizon and often also includes our mood. It is common to
suffer from sadness and grief at this time; the emotions associated
with the Metal element. From the Earth element of late summer, the
idea of the Metal element is that Earth becomes compacted and
creates precious metals buried deep beneath its surface …wars have
been waged over these valuable ores! It is a poignant analogy that
there are treasures lying within us, waiting to be excavated as we
venture further inward as we turn away from the yang of summer and
dive into yin season.
Autumn Days by Jai Gaurangi
Autumn days are for watching
The way auburn leaves fall and
kiss the earth to show
that the trees have made peace
with letting go
Given the prevalence of respiratory conditions with the dampness of
the season, the Chinese Tradition asks us to nourish our Lungs, the
gateway between our inner and outer worlds and its Yang organ pair,
the Large Intestine which bolsters our immunity.
Join Kate for a workshop exploring the Metal element through the
practices of restorative yin, pranayama, Qi Gong and yoga
nidra.
