Bamboo Mat's restaurant Stratford East Village offers creative Nikkei cuisine with flair and flavour. Due to the incredible success of the Leyton site, a second larger site opened in Stratford, East London at the beginning of 2023.

This is Bamboo Mat’s larger second site in Stratford’s East Village. Chef-owners Denis Gobjila (formerly at Chotto Matte) and Victor Rosca (formerly at Sushisamba and Lucky Cat), offer a fresh perspective on Nikkei cuisine (Peruvian-Japanese fusion) and are stamping their own mark on London’s burgeoning Nikkei cuisine scene.

The Bamboo Mat team have worked tirelessly to create unique, fresh and vibrant Peruvian and Japanese dishes that are both complex and visual, combining a balance of flavours and textures.

Signatures include Seabass Ceviche (seabass sashimi, Aji Amarillo, Tiger's Milk, sweet potato, red onion and cancha corn); Sushi starters such as the beautifully presented Hamachi Tiradito (thinly sliced yellowtail Kingfish, yuzu truffle soy and Aji Amarillo with chives); and main courses like Chicken Anitcucho, Ox Cheek with yuzu potato puree and teriyaki sauce, and A4 grade wagyu beef with Japanese BBQ sauce and pickled wasabi.

Sushi at Bamboo Mat has all been masterfully constructed and is beautifully presented. Try the Mango Maki (avocado, cucumber, Romano pepper with mango puree and siracha sauce); get your five a day and more with the Vulcano Maki (salmon, seabass, cucumber, asparagus and avocado); and in true Nikkei style treat yourself to Bamboo Mat’s signature Ceviche Hot Maki (seabass, prawn, Aji Amarillo Tiger’s Milk and salsa).

Bamboo Mat’s drinks menu offers a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cocktails to match plus sake, wines and Japanese beer.

Bamboo Mat offers a Peruvian Japanese brunch menu at their Stratford restaurant every Saturday and Sunday from 12 midday to 4pm. Bottomless option available.
