Majorie's

Description

Just off Carnaby Street, in a former poke spot near Oxford Circus, Marjorie’s brings a slice of Parisian wine-bar culture to Soho. Spread across two compact floors, it’s the debut from Michael Searle and Josh Anderson, who’ve paired their newcomer energy with serious kitchen pedigree in Giacomo Peretti (ex-Le Gavroche, Temper, Firebird, The Culpeper).

Upstairs centres around a long bar and a handful of terrace tables, perfect for grazing with a glass in hand, while downstairs feels more intimate, with arched booths, a central sharing table and four coveted counter seats facing the small open kitchen.

Though billed as a wine bar and restaurant, it leans towards the former - albeit one with an excellent, modern French menu of small and medium plates. Classics are reworked with flair: chicken liver rocher riffs on a Ferrero Rocher, crab tartelettes arrive as delicate, citrus-bright bites, and lamb tartare is lifted with spring vegetables and goat’s cheese. Larger dishes like poached chicken with brown butter and crunchy pan-scraped rice, or bavette with a glossy egg yolk emulsion, show real confidence.

Desserts run from a towering yet featherlight millefeuille to a warm chocolate mousse with hidden praline, while the all-French wine list spotlights contemporary producers, with bottles from around £45.
