Description

Ceviche – the food and the pair of restaurants in Soho and over on Old Street – are household names among those in London who care about food, food that’s made with care and love, that is. The same goes for Ceviche’s sister restaurant Andina over in Shoreditch. With symmetry as beguiling as a bolt of colourful Andean fabric, the mastermind behind these eateries at the vanguard of the Peruvian cuisine renaissance, Martin Morales, has opened a second Andina-affiliated restaurant along Soho’s Great Windmill Street, minutes from Piccadilly and five minutes down the road from Ceviche Soho.

Casita Andina is a two floor restaurant boasting ground floor pisco bar, second floor terrace dining space and 58 covers, Casita Andina is an intimate and welcoming dining space designed by Morales himself and the Cantor Masters interior designers. Guests can expect plates the likes of sustainable black king fish, heritage Peruvian potatoes, king prawns in chupe liquor and more on a truly fresh and indulgent meat. More than recommended, advance bookings for these incredibly popular restaurants are mandatory.

The staff weren't overly forthcoming, we had to ask for a lot of things. I felt like more attention was paid to bigger groups or older clients, as if 2 young people weren't as important. The croquettes tasted like burnt soil, I couldn't cut the skin of the pork belly with my knife - perhaps better cutlery - and the duck and all the food really was just lacking in oomph. Quite disappointing. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-04-15

We went for my girlfriend's birthday, The restaurant décor is very nice and our waiter was friendly and helpful, however towards the end of our meal we were asked if we would move seats so they could accommodate a larger table. I obliged, my girlfriend wasn't so happy about it. They did offer us the bottle of wine for free but it is poor to do that all the same. I literally had a fork of food in mouth when they came and asked. The food itself wasn't too my taste, that's not to say it was bad, it just wasn't to my taste, almost every dish was very colourful and it felt like they were adding new elements to the plate just to make it look bright and pretty rather than thinking about what it does to the taste of the dish. It might well be other people's cup of tea but I guess Peruvian food isn't for me. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-04-13

The food was excellent. I don't eat any animal products and there were plenty of great options. I really enjoyed the beer too! It would be great if the portions were a little larger or were a bit cheaper than the animal options though. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-04-13

The only other Peruvian restaurants I have been in were Peru, and none were very nice at all. By contrast it would be very hard to fault Casita Andina. Friendly and attentive staff, pleasingly limited menu, each dish very tasy and well prepared. They didn’t have my first choice, and yet the earth still turns on its axis and I chose something else. Ambient music was unobtrusive, but does any restaurant in Central London, usually crowded and noisy anyway, really need ambient music at all; nobody who I know goes to a restaurant to listen to music? Unreservedly recommend. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-04-13

Eating out by yourself when away on business is always a difficult one! Casita Andina made me feel welcome, explained their menu and offered great service without being intrusive. The food was amazing with ingredients and flavours not always found on menus. Their cocktail selection, especially their twist on an 'old fashioned' was very welcome after a busy day. I'd certainly be back. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-04-09

I am Peruvian, and it seemed to me that the food at Andina is not really authentic Peruvian food - the only recognisable Peruvian dish is the ceviche. The rest uses Peruvian flavours and gastronomical ideas to create modern fusion dishes, and the effect is pleasant but overpriced. My experience was marred by constantly being asked by the waiter whether we wanted more drinks, despite making it very clear we didn't. This sort of blatant attempt to milk us for more money is extremely unpleasant, and because of that I wouldn't go again or recommend the place to anyone else. There are far nicer Peruvian places with better food for better prices in the less central parts of London. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-04-08

My wife and I were visiting London for a few days and saw there were a few Peruvian restaurants. We decided on Casita Andina to try it. As others stated - extremely tight seating - sitting literally next to other tables with no privacy. Cute place though and good atmosphere. Food - duck wings were amazing. Lamb was delicious. Tuna ceviche was not. Artichoke ceviche was missing artichokes. Mainly potatoes. Overall food was missing traditions ceviche and Peruvian flavors. Trying to be to creative - felt more Asian inspired Peruvian. My wife and I travel the world and eat really well and always willing to try new places. Casita can do well - just need to make some tweaks and really bring inspired Peruvian flavors to their dishes. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-04-03

What a lovely place!!! Adorable, super caring service “con mucho cariño”, great help in choosing the Peruvian plates according to our preferences and these were absolutely outstanding!!! We recommend to indulge into the whole palette: nibbles, mains for sharing (must go for a variety of ceviche AND taste the pork belly!!!) and not to forget the fantastic deserts (trouble to pick one? Go for all and share the culinary joy)! Visited Casita Andina on 2018-03-26

OMG, this place is amazing! I had the pudin de maiz, cantaloupe salad, and finished off brunch with a shot of the chili lime infused pisco. Everything was fantastic and the service went above and beyond! The ground floor of the restaurant is nice and intimate, but possibly not a good thing when sitting next to other loud guests. But there is more seating upstairs and a cute little outdoor bit with three tables that would be lovely in the summer. I can't wait to visit this place for dinner and pre-drinks. A good friend was over from LA and he has been a few times. It was his birthday so three of us went and had a wonderful experience. Right from the go, the barman made us a pisco sour to die for....and with such a friendly welcoming attitude it gave me the confidence this would be a great restaurant. The food was amazing...so different...with the food presented in a perfect order to allow the subtlety of the ceviche to come through. First the sea-bass...then the scallops and then the tuna. Flavours that really were so wonderful. Then the meat dishes . It is hard to follow the sheer genius of the ceviche but the subtle flavours of the lamb and the belly-pork were truly an experience you should have. The wine list is excellent. We had a Clare Valley Riesling. Delicious and good value. The staff were superb. Even the staff who were not directly dealing with us always gave a broad smile. What a joy to go somewhere that truly lives up to the hype. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-03-22

The portion of the ceviche specifically could be a little bigger, because it was so delicious. Otherwise, everything was perfect. The staff were lovely, found us a table when we arrived 20 minutes early at peak dinner time. The place is cozy and not too loud either, given the tight space. The food is perfection: the octopus and ceviche are my favourite, and I get one of each every time I go. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-03-22

Superb food, attentive service and a warm, homely atmosphere. Came here as in the Tatler top 30 restaurants in soho. It was ok but I wouldn’t come back. The signature pisco sour cocktail and sea bass ceviche were yummy but other dishes, prawn dish was actually unpleasant to eat. Aubergine chips bland and soggy as a special. Excellent. Food very good, great flavours - very quiet for a Friday lunchtime, would visit again in the evening as I imagine it’s a buzzy, vibrant place at night time. The only feedback would be re soft shell crab dish, the polenta or cornbread that the crab was served on was tasteless & didn’t compliment the dish (in my opinion). As a large group, we were instructed to order from a set-menu and to notify them of any dietary requirements so they could adapt the dishes. As a vegetarian, I was given no alternatives to the fish and meat & told there was nothing they could do (e.g. let me have a dish from the main menu). The food was okay - a very average experience made more frustrating given the price and lack of accommodation. They also reduced our table size when people were late so we had to squeeze round a smaller space. I would not return here. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-02-15

We had a wonderful time at La Casita! The courses were delicious and the cocktails even better! My favourite is la Sombra Negra, which I totally recommend. Customer service was also excellent. We will definetly return! Visited Casita Andina on 2018-02-03

We went there on an evening date with my wife. Attention: we were very well greeted and treated during all the time we were there. Food: even though the menu is not so diverse as you might see in other Peruvian restaurants. The dishes they do, they do them great. I recommend ordering several of the plates in the menu as the size is normal to small and just sharing. The tuna ceviche and the causa are just awesome. Place: in my opinion there is a couple too many tables. You end up less than 20 cm away from your next table neighbour which is not great. The acoustic is not too good, it gets very noisy and the close proximity of tables don't help much in keeping it low. BUT, the place is nicely decorated and it is very welcoming. Certainly a Peruvian place to keep in the "go to" list. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-02-02

The food was amazing! Can I just say your front of house really does let you down! Firstly we were going to be given the counter area at the front of the restaurant with three stools. Was given a table which is usually for two people but two other parties of 3 were given two tables. Why is that? Visited Casita Andina on 2018-02-01

The food was excellent and service very friendly. However, for a tapas style service the tables are way too small. Fortunately our 3rd person couldn’t make it or w would have found it very uncomfortable. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-01-29

The staff were super helpful and friendly, the atmosphere fun and intimate. Food was absolutely fantastic as we’ve come to expect from Ceviche and Andina. Cocktails great. All round brilliant evening even if we did spend quite a lot with all those rounds of cocktails.... Visited Casita Andina on 2018-01-26

Excellent food but unfortunately the let down is that this place tries to squeeze too many people in - leaving your memory of your meal here as not the best. For three of us we got a table for the size of 1 person and then we were also placed right next to the door to the garden terrace. For the entire meal it was uncomfortable as we froze every time the door opened. Now having a table the size right for 1 person although it was 3 of us is OK however the entire concept of the restaurant is sharing plates!! So at no time could more than 2 plates fit on the table along with our 3 plates - forcing an uncomfortable meal. Then after eating our mains we ordered dessert - I was having a cup of tea. Five minutes after the tea arrived, the waitress said that they needed to sit someone else at the table (as all tables you have a max of 2 hours) and that we would need to leave soon. So why did they not say this when we were ordering dessert is beyond me?! Obviously we were unable to shot a hot cup of tea down in 5 minutes so we left without having our dessert! Shame that this place is being run like this - it let's the good food down. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-01-12

I wanted to provide some feedback on my meal last night in the restaurant, as I was very disappointed with it, in particular the incredibly small portion sizes on some of the dishes we received. The side of Ocopa Chips is firstly not chips, it was a few lumps of cold potatoes and was not an acceptable portion - it was so ungenerous and made us feel really disappointed. Also, the avocado fritters were tiny - the description 'fritter' is not accurate, each morning be suze of large olive! I know the prices are low for these dishes around £4 each but nobody wants minute portions of foood. We also found the waitress serving us was on the 'hard sell' asking us repeatedly if we 'want to order ceviche' (which we didn't) and if we wanted more dishes (which we didnt) especially once we saw the portion sizes. I would not recommend or return as there is no joy is such stingy portions. The best bit is the pisco sour. Visited Casita Andina on 2018-01-11

The Pisco sours are delicious, as is the food. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and the service is welcoming. The hostess graciously found a table for us when I had mistakenly reserved for the wrong day. I only wish that the waiters weren't constantly asked to up-sell you. Visited Casita Andina on 2017-12-19
