Eel Sushi

Description

Tucked into the polished corners of Notting Hill is Eel Sushi Bar. Step inside and, thanks to its warm Swiss Pine interiors, you could easily believe you’ve wandered into a chic Alpine ski chalet rather than one of West London’s most coveted postcodes. It’s intimate, it’s atmospheric, and it comes courtesy of the owner behind Dorian - so expectations are, quite rightly, high.

The layout is deliberately compact: just two six-seat counters, one facing the kitchen for front-row seats to the knife work, the other by the window for those who prefer to watch the world drift by. It’s sushi as theatre, stripped back and precise. Begin with a soothing bowl of miso soup while you plot your order - sushi priced per piece for the purists who like to curate their own line-up, or the chef’s nigiri selection for those happy to place themselves in expert hands.

Here, the seafood is the headline act. Impeccably sourced and handled with reverence, it includes tuna imported from Spain, chosen for its depth of flavour and buttery texture. Each piece is a study in balance: perfectly seasoned rice, pristine fish, nothing superfluous.

And then there’s the wine list - a serious one. Mirroring that of Dorian, it ranges from elegant classics to show-stopping luxury bottles, very much in keeping with the neighbourhood’s appetite for the finer things.
