Description
Canteen is a buzzy, walk-in-only Italian spot tucked into the heart of Notting Hill, just off Portobello Road. From the team behind The Pelican, it brings a laid-back but polished vibe to the neighbourhood, such as think deli-chic interiors with steel countertops, glass cabinets of preserves, and rows of canary-yellow seating that pop against the minimalist backdrop.
The open kitchen is run by chefs Jessica Filbey and Harry Hills, both River Café alumni, and it shows. The menu is seasonal, ever-changing, and rooted in Italian simplicity. Dishes like girolle risotto, beef shin ragu with polenta, and courgette ravioli with nasturtium are all about bold flavours and clean execution. Even the desserts, like the Morello cherry frangipane tart, feel both comforting and elevated.
There are no reservations, but that’s part of the charm. The space hums with energy, the soundtrack is always on point, and the staff keep things moving with ease. Whether you’re popping in for a quick lunch or settling in for a longer dinner, Canteen delivers the kind of casual excellence that keeps people coming back.
