Description

Set in the heart of Mayfair, MA/NA is a luxury Japanese dining and drinking destination inspired by the concept of 'mana' — the Japanese belief that every ingredient carries an invisible power. The room is the work of Olya Volkova's OV & Co, conceived as a study in 1970s Tokyo retro-glamour, with dark wood panelling, soft amber lighting, and a sculptural dragon-shaped banquette winding its way through the lounge. The venue boasts 156 covers, with spaces designed to accommodate both intimate dinners and lively social gatherings.

The menu is led by Executive Chef Leo Tanyag, balancing tradition and modernity and drawing inspiration from across Japan's culinary landscape. Tanyag's menu marries traditional Japanese techniques with a contemporary London-ready twist, balancing precision with indulgence. The drinks programme is orchestrated by Bar Director Pietro Collina, formerly of Viajante87, NoMad, and Eleven Madison Park. The bar showcases premium spirits, rare sakes, and exquisite cocktails.

MA/NA is the most ambitious project yet from the Thesleff Group, the operator behind Los Mochis, LUNA Omakase, JUNO Omakase, and Sale e Pepe. Founder and CEO Markus Thesleff has noted a personal connection to Japan: "My father was born in Japan, and my grandfather was Finnish Ambassador to the country, so I have the utmost respect for Japanese culture and ritual." The restaurant is designed as a progressive experience, moving from refined dining to an intimate late-night cocktail bar — a concept that sets it apart from conventional Mayfair dining destinations.
