Description
The Tamil Prince is a South Indian gastropub located in Islington, housed in a beautifully restored Victorian building. The interior blends traditional pub charm with subtle nods to Tamil culture—think dark wood panelling, brass accents, and vintage Indian glassware. The atmosphere is warm and communal, with an open kitchen that adds a lively energy to the space. It’s a place where the comfort of a British pub meets the vibrancy of South Indian street food.
At the heart of The Tamil Prince is chef Prince Durairaj, whose culinary roots in Tamil Nadu and experience at Roti King shape a menu full of bold, authentic flavours. Co-founded with Glen Leeson, formerly of JKS Restaurants (who've worked with Gymkhana, Trishna and more famous restaurants), the venue builds on the success of their Tamila street food venture. The menu features standout dishes like masala lamb chops, crispy okra fries, and rich dhal makhani, all served with a modern twist. The restaurant has quickly gained a loyal following and critical acclaim for its unique concept, earning accolades for its innovative fusion of Indian cuisine with British pub culture - including a recommendation in the Michelin Guide and a feature in the National Restaurant Awards.
