Moving into the former stomping grounds of the London Fields Pub on Mare Street, Martello Hall is a cocktail bar-cum-restaurant in Hackney. The venue caters for all tastes, accompanying its cocktails list with a food menu composed of various Italian breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes.
Opening early, the venue offers a selection of pleasing breakfast dishes; think Italian baked eggs with wood roasted potatoes, salt beef and potato hash, and toast with roast tomatoes, thyme and aioli. During the week, guests can sample a range of torta fritta - small fried dumplings that are stuffed with ingredients and served with cheese and ham - and stone-baked pizzas.
The real flavours however are to be found on the drinks menu. Doubling up as a gin distillery, Martello Hall offers an array of carefully concocted gin cocktails and home-made creations. Be sure to try the Nicola, a drink created specially for Martello Hall by American gin expert John Chapple and composed of the venue's own Martello Gin spirit.
