Celebrated chef Jun Tanaka goes solo for the first
time with the opening of this French and Mediterranean restaurant
in Fitzrovia. The Ninth - so named because he’s worked in eight top
restaurants up to this point - brings thoughtful yet unfussy
cooking to Charlotte Street; one of London’s most thriving eating
out neighbourhoods.
With 20 years experience working in several
Michelin-starred kitchens, Tanaka’s first restaurant will offer
seasonal produce with influences from France and the Med. Signature
plates include the salted beef cheeks with oxtail consomme
and lamb en croute with Jerasulem artichoke puree, and
there’s to be plenty of exciting options for vegetarians, too. The
Ninth will also put the focus on smaller and lesser-known producers
to create a wine list featuring around 25 whites and 25 reds.
A haven for casual dining, the ground floor - with its dark
woods, elegant olives and exposed brick - features a neatly formed
bar for walk-ins, while the upper level is a more secluded spot
promising intimate vibes and views overlooking Charlotte
Street.
