Chishuru

Description

Chishuru, now nestled in Fitzrovia after its Brixton beginnings, is a vibrant West African restaurant that’s made serious waves in London’s dining scene. The space is warm and welcoming, with earthy tones, soft lighting, and a relaxed, neighbourhood vibe that makes it feel like a hidden gem, even with a Michelin star under its belt. The open kitchen adds a buzz of energy, giving diners a peek into the magic behind the scenes.

At the heart of Chishuru is chef Adejoké 'Joké' Bakare, a self-taught culinary powerhouse who started the restaurant as a Brixton supper club. Since then, she’s become the UK’s first Black female chef to earn a Michelin star, and was named ‘Chef of the Year’ at the 2024 National Restaurant Awards. Chishuru’s charm lies in its bold, modern take on West African cuisine - think rich, layered flavours and inventive techniques that still honour tradition.
