Description
Tucked away in the heart of Bloomsbury, Café Deco is a quietly elegant gem that blends artful design with heartfelt European-style dining. The debut solo project from acclaimed chef Anna Tobias, in collaboration with the team behind 40 Maltby Street, this bistro and wine bar has earned a devoted following since opening in late 2020.
The interiors, conceived by designer Michael Marriott with architects Casswell Bank, embrace sustainability through reclaimed materials and vintage furnishings. Pastel-hued floor tiles, bespoke curtains crafted from fabric offcuts, and a hand-painted harvest-themed mural by London duo Anna Hodgson and Harry Darby create a warm, lived-in charm reminiscent of Jean Cocteau’s work.
On the plate, the menu changes weekly, driven by the best produce from local farms and suppliers. Expect comforting yet refined dishes such as fish stew with fennel and rouille, pot-roast chicken, roast sirloin, or mussels with fresh coco beans and tomato. The wine list, curated by sommelier Benedict Clancy, champions low-intervention bottles from sustainable producers, with by-the-glass options changing daily to pair seamlessly with the kitchen’s ever-evolving offerings.
