Isla Ray

Description

Taking over the site formerly held by a Subway, this charming cafe and restaurant on Deptford High Street offers some very different kind of sandwiches. Following a stint working in cafes and bars across Melbourne, Australia, owner Rachael Dalton-Loveland has brought a taste of year-round sunshine to South East London as her all-day eatery serves up a selection of delicious brunch and lunch dishes, including overnight oats and yogurt bowls. Some of the most mouth-watering dishes on the menu are the open sandwiches, which range from a simple salmon with mascarpone and capers to the indulgent brie and crushed walnut with rosemary and maple syrup.

In the evenings customers can dine on tasty sharing platters covered with locally source cured meats, cheeses, pickles and bread, or the Meze Plate which offers a classic combination of falafel, hummus, feta and olives. They pair wonderfully with the range of refreshing cocktails offered at the bar local craft beers.

The interiors too speak of sunnier climes with colourful patterned tiling, quirky thrift-shop furniture and mid-century knick-knacks, not to mention the Cuban-themed courtyard, which is open all day for a spot of al fresco dining in the summer months.
