Taking up a space just shy of Cambridge Heath Station, My Million Pound Menu winner, BBQ Dreamz, are bringing a menu of Filipino street food to Bethnal Green in the form of Bong Bong's Manila Kanteen. The project, which has previously only existed in a pop-up capacity, will be serving up a distinctive selection of plates and snacks, from Filipino Phô and duck heart skewers, to Adobo chicken with banana ketchup.
To set the scene properly, Bong Bong's interiors will see a pastiche of tropical prints and re-purposed materials, alongside a verdant terrace decked out in plant life, lamps and bamboo candlesticks. There's no doubt that this will be the summertime spot to get caught sipping on their bespoke cocktail collection, alongside pints of San Miguel and Red Horse lager.
However, it's Sundays that are the real treat here, as every weekend Bong Bong's host a traditional kamayan-style feast. Think no plate or forks, just banana leaves piled with rice, taro, lemongrass prawns, juicy skewers and more, and you can just have at it.
