Description

The Thirsty Bear, situated in Blackfriars, is a revolutionary pub that serves great food, moreish cocktails and has an extremely unique feature - a self-service bar. This consists of iPads on each table that allows you to place orders for food and drinks; to surf the internet; to select tracks on the bar’s Jukebox and to do something you possibly didn’t think of (though you probably did): buy beer that you can then instantly dispense from the tap on your table.

Due to its location, The Thirsty Bear is perfect for after-work drinks but at the same time it is a local pub. For those a bit further away, it is worth visiting this almost futuristic pub where pool is free and there is a jukebox to play your favourite tunes!

The quality of the beer was not that good. we're all used to excellent craft beer and this was cloudy out of date real ale or lager that was a bit warm and just didnt taste good. Also the music was so loud and annoying that we just left in the end. a shame as the food 'looked' fantastic. We were talking abut your place later and felt that you have a bit of a an identity crisis. it felt like a disco, come sports bar come ale house come cocktail bar designed for 17 year old music tastes. visited The Thirsty Bear on 11 May 2017

Hey folks, Just a little bit of feedback at a bit of disappointment I had with my booking last night. We've used the pub on a number of occasions to watch football by booking in advance and have had a good time. However, when I arrived a little before seven yesterday I was disappointed to see us given a table that at best fits 7 people, despite booking for 10. I eventually managed to pull it out from the wall so that we could fit two more at the end. However, despite specifying we were coming to watch the football, there was only one tv that we could see from the table, which was fine for some people at the table but not everyone. We quickly realised a few of the group were struggling to see the tv properly when the game started and luckily we managed to swap our table with another smaller group who had a better view of more tvs. I appreciate it's difficult to accomodate ten people but I felt there was a slight lack of effort put in to do so. There were only five chairs at the table when I arrived, for example. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of your pub. The staff are friendly, the prices are reasonable and the food is great. I will be back, but this time we were a little disappointed, as regular bookers. Thanks, Niall visited The Thirsty Bear on 11 May 2017

The iPads on the table were quirky, but provided a fun element to our visit. The only problem was that they were almost too sensitive to touch, as we managed to add about 12 burgers that we didn't want, and then had to start our order again! visited The Thirsty Bear on 09 May 2017

Brilliant! Booked a table with taps and IPad. Never used the taps as it was not drinks that we wanted. BUT ordering drinks and food on the IPad was excellent, easy and quick. Drinks were brought VERY quickly after orders were placed. Our entire table only ate burgers on the night, but these were some of the best burgers I have had in London. It was a great evening with friendly staff and excellent service. I would highly recommend a trip to The Thirsty Bear!! visited The Thirsty Bear on 13 Apr 2017

IPad wasn't working when we arrived so had to chase people around to fix it. Slow service. Drinks were fast but food didn't come out for half an hour. Well mine anyway and then my husbands 10 minutes later after chasing - his chips were cold. Clicked the button to pay the bill and waited 20 minutes with nobody coming over. Went downstairs to pay and the girl told us someone was upstairs with the card machine - we refused to go back up so waited another 5 minutes for them to come back down. Probably won't go again.... SO extortionate as well for a place that has the most disgusting toilets this side of the river. visited The Thirsty Bear on 04 Mar 2017

We found people on our reserved table upon arrival, and then had to seek a chair for the 8th person that did not have a seat, to discover that it had been moved from our table to the adjacent table, and was being kept as a seat for their rucksack. Really good location and love the idea of ordering on IPads and just pouring yourself a pint. Having said this I was disappointed by the explanation we were given. I didn't realise each person had to get a'Tab', which meant 17 different tabs. So it was a little difficult to get started and we had a few issues with how frothy the beer came out. visited The Thirsty Bear on 15 Feb 2017

Nice bar and good atmosphere! Service was really quick from the Ipads. We had two tables and one of the ipads didn't work - we used the other ipad to call someone and no-one came! We had a great night on Friday at our private party upstairs, a leaving party for 20 staff. The food was great the venue was perfect and the service was spot on. The only thing I didn't really appreciate was being asked by the manager at 5pm to put my card behind the bar to cover any shortfall in the minimum spend! The party didn't finish until 12 o'clock!!! Totally unnecessary and it took the shine off my evening if the truth be told. Shame. (We did hit the min spend btw!) visited The Thirsty Bear on 27 Jan 2017

All in all a fun and different experience. Service was friendly and welcoming. A few issues though. My burger bun didn't hold at all and was sloppy. Wedges were divine! We also ordered a special lunch deal that wasnt available on a Saturday. Perhaps this should be unavailable to order via the tablets at such times. A suggestion may be to make the sky sports available on the tablets. That way the friend who has his back to the screens can still watch. We came here for our Team Christmas lunch but I wasn't that impressed to be honest. No response to the 'call bar member' function on the iPads made booking the iPad & beer taps table pretty redundant. Staff were generally pretty unhelpful and pocketed the majority of a pack of cake candles we'd asked them to put on a cake. Chips were great, the venison burger was overlooked and missing the hot mango sauce. My first time at Thirsty Bear and it hasn't left me wanting to return any time soon which is a shame as the general ambience was good and an interesting concept; overall I'd say my experience was let down by the staff. visited The Thirsty Bear on 17 Nov 2016

We had a great time. I booked thinking that just a few mates would have a beer after playing a rugby match in North London. So I booked a table to have beers on our way back down. Something a bit different – wasn't hugely busy but being able to pour and order drinks without leaving the table's a bit of a novelty and the atmosphere was still good. Probably wouldn't be a regular place, but fun to visit from time-to-time. kyrkesmith visited The Thirsty Bear on 07 Sep 2016

This is my favourite bar in London at the moment, there are big tables with their own beer pumps on them that charge your tab with the exact amount you pour. There are iPads to order other drinks and food which is good quality, you will spend a lot of money here though, but totally worth it. Only negative is they show football but keep the music on rather than the commentary, Howlingwoolf visited The Thirsty Bear on 13 Aug 2016

If Carlsberg made pubs! iPads are a great idea, no more waiting for drinks. Getting a table designed for 6 for a booking of 9 and staff that were not exactly sociable let it down.

I am a lover of the thirsty bear... but it seems like lately they've been taking their eye off the ball, Ipads are regularly not working, no meantime taps anymore and it just feels a bit 'meh' me and friends often end up there at some stage during an evening for a jaegerbomb pitstop, the creat your own burgers are great!

Hmmm I fear this may be a case of gimmick over substance! Yes ordering on an ipad contraption on our table was pretty cool and fun and pouring our own pints was fun but that wears off pretty quick! The machine broke a few times and the pub/bar is very ordinary inside! Worth going out your way? Perhaps...to try out the tech but you probably wont be back a second time

Was excited to visit to see this new concept but wouldnt rave about it, the ipad didnt work, took ages to sort out the bill between everyone, and the tap kept on jamming. Really disappointed with the decor as its just an average pub who look like they spent all their budget on their swanky ipads.
