Description

The Thirsty Bear, situated in Blackfriars, is a revolutionary pub that serves great food, moreish cocktails and has an extremely unique feature - a self-service bar. This consists of iPads on each table that allows you to place orders for food and drinks; to surf the internet; to select tracks on the bar’s Jukebox and to do something you possibly didn’t think of (though you probably did): buy beer that you can then instantly dispense from the tap on your table.

Due to its location, The Thirsty Bear is perfect for after-work drinks but at the same time it is a local pub. For those a bit further away, it is worth visiting this almost futuristic pub where pool is free and there is a jukebox to play your favourite tunes!

Booked for my birthday and had a very good experience. Staff were very helpful and not having to queue at the bar was bonus when watching the football. visited The Thirsty Bear on 14 Jan 2017

Great beer selection, really good food, all fairly priced for central London (not cheap, but not silly). Lots of room and lots of TVs to watch the sport. They were happy to turn the NFL on for us. Didn't use iPad/beer pour system as it was quiet, but would try next time. visited The Thirsty Bear on 15 Jan 2017

The tap was confusing to use at the beginning when there's a large group and took us ages to get our first round , but the reserved space is really nice and once we got the touch pad system figured out it was fine. visited The Thirsty Bear on 10 Jan 2017

Great place. Good beer and food was top notch. Only issue was that we had 2 tables and the card didn't work on both. Several visits to the bar to get it reset so we didn't buy as much beer as we could have. Will definitely be coming back. visited The Thirsty Bear on 22 Dec 2016

This was our second Christmas party at the Thirsty Bear, everyone had a fantastic evening - the food is incredible - pulling your own beers is good fun - and for those that want something different the service via the iPad is exceptional Top that with good background music it all makes for the perfect night thank you to all of your team and Merry Christmas visited The Thirsty Bear on 16 Dec 2016

All in all a fun and different experience. Service was friendly and welcoming. A few issues though. My burger bun didn't hold at all and was sloppy. Wedges were divine! We also ordered a special lunch deal that wasnt available on a Saturday. Perhaps this should be unavailable to order via the tablets at such times. A suggestion may be to make the sky sports available on the tablets. That way the friend who has his back to the screens can still watch. Thanks for something different. visited The Thirsty Bear on 17 Dec 2016

Great night for birthday drinks at the Thirsty Bear. Booked a table with iPad and beer pump and wasn't disappointed, service was quick and the food (burgers and hotdogs) was tasty. Great that you can order songs on the jukebox from your table too. Only complaint was that there was only one choice of dessert on the menu. And also the toilets could have been a bit cleaner. visited The Thirsty Bear on 10 Dec 2016

We came here for our Team Christmas lunch but I wasn't that impressed to be honest. The ipads on the tables didn't work and neither did the pumps and the juke box didn't have any Christmas songs or any current music. The venue didn't have any Christmas decorations either. They seemed short staffed upstairs also and a bit moody. Wouldn't go back. visited The Thirsty Bear on 08 Dec 2016

Great food and atmosphere. Drinks on the pricey side. Recommend you pre-book and specify an upstairs table if your party is 6 people plus and are eating as there are few large tables for groups. visited The Thirsty Bear on 06 Dec 2016

Great fun and concept...when there was an error on the tablet one staff member kindly removed it and the second time another staff member rudely said "be more careful next time" and walked off in a grump...would visit again! visited The Thirsty Bear on 30 Nov 2016

Robot pubs are (hopefully) the future! No more fighting to get served at the bar on a Saturday night, more time time to spend with your friends. Finally one of the bastions of a civilised country becomes civilised! Thank you to the fantastic host who looked after our table. visited The Thirsty Bear on 26 Nov 2016

No response to the 'call bar member' function on the iPads made booking the iPad & beer taps table pretty redundant. Staff were generally pretty unhelpful and pocketed the majority of a pack of cake candles we'd asked them to put on a cake. Chips were great, the venison burger was overlooked and missing the hot mango sauce. My first time at Thirsty Bear and it hasn't left me wanting to return any time soon which is a shame as the general ambience was good and an interesting concept; overall I'd say my experience was let down by the staff. visited The Thirsty Bear on 17 Nov 2016

Very helpful & friendly staff. Food was really good - ordering from the iPad was great - everything turned up so quick. The guys loved the beer taps; everyone can drink at their own pace and not have to wait for a refill. Would highly recommend. Nicola visited The Thirsty Bear on 20 Oct 2016

Took 20 of us in for a work lunch and everything from the service to the food was top quality. They were able to fit us in with only 24h notice, the taps on the table are a nice touch and make it easy to get everyone a drink when you're in a big group and the table top ordering went without a hitch even with such a big group. Thoroughly recommended.

We had a great time. I booked thinking that just a few mates would have a beer after playing a rugby match in North London. So I booked a table to have beers on our way back down. It turned out that the whole team fancied a few beers. The team at the Thirsty Bear were brilliant and very accommodating. Keep up the good work guys and girls.

Something a bit different – wasn't hugely busy but being able to pour and order drinks without leaving the table's a bit of a novelty and the atmosphere was still good. Probably wouldn't be a regular place, but fun to visit from time-to-time. kyrkesmith visited The Thirsty Bear on 07 Sep 2016

This is my favourite bar in London at the moment, there are big tables with their own beer pumps on them that charge your tab with the exact amount you pour. There are iPads to order other drinks and food which is good quality, you will spend a lot of money here though, but totally worth it. Only negative is they show football but keep the music on rather than the commentary, Howlingwoolf visited The Thirsty Bear on 13 Aug 2016

If Carlsberg made pubs! iPads are a great idea, no more waiting for drinks. Getting a table designed for 6 for a booking of 9 and staff that were not exactly sociable let it down.

I am a lover of the thirsty bear... but it seems like lately they've been taking their eye off the ball, Ipads are regularly not working, no meantime taps anymore and it just feels a bit 'meh' me and friends often end up there at some stage during an evening for a jaegerbomb pitstop, the creat your own burgers are great!

Hmmm I fear this may be a case of gimmick over substance! Yes ordering on an ipad contraption on our table was pretty cool and fun and pouring our own pints was fun but that wears off pretty quick! The machine broke a few times and the pub/bar is very ordinary inside! Worth going out your way? Perhaps...to try out the tech but you probably wont be back a second time

Was excited to visit to see this new concept but wouldnt rave about it, the ipad didnt work, took ages to sort out the bill between everyone, and the tap kept on jamming. Really disappointed with the decor as its just an average pub who look like they spent all their budget on their swanky ipads.
