Description

Housed in an elegant hotel, the Alma in Wandsworth combines all the comforts that we've come to love about a classic pub with the sleek practicality of a modern restaurant. The bar itself is made of deep mahogany, and seems to have soaked up some of the character of their guests who undoubtedly filled the room with laughter and cheer.

Alongside their quaint decor, the drinks and food menus are capable of putting a smile on even the most cynical faces. The team behind this venture are committed to showcasing a range of cask ales and beers, working closely with the nearby Sam Brooks Brewery and Twickenham Ales. And then there's the dinner menu. Adding their own personal tweaks and amendments to an array of traditional dishes, the chefs have really let their imaginations run wild; from ale battered fish and chips to American burgers with peanut butter, you'll leave a few pounds heavier and with a giant sauce-stained smile etched on your face.

I would just like to thank you and the team for a really lovely evening – it was such a perfect venue for our Christmas party and the room was decorated beautifully, it looked amazing. I’d like to thank Steve especially, he is a charming and genial host and he made sure the evening ran very smoothly indeed. He made everyone feel welcome and he kept an eye on everything throughout the evening to ensure we were all happy. You too Valeria have been really helpful and patient throughout and that really helped during the planning! A very big thank to all involved for all your hard work which made our Christmas party such a success. visited The Alma Wandsworth on 06 Dec 2016

A real shame, food was fine and the waitress was lovely but I'm afraid I can't say the same for her manager – he was rude and obnoxious and lied that we have made the waitress upset which was simply not true! Spoilt what was otherwise a good family lunch – will not rush back. visited The Alma Wandsworth on 04 Dec 2016

A large group of adults and children went for an annual Christmas lunch at the Alma in Wandsworth. This is the second year we've used The Alma for our event. It was fantastic. Really thrilled with the service and the food. We'll be back. visited The Alma Wandsworth on 03 Dec 2016

Been several tI messaged before and always excellent however yesterday not so good. Arrived at noon for lunch that's been booked for months. Our mains eventually arrived at 13.25 making us late for the kick off of the rugby. Suggestion: dont take so many bookings if you don't have staff and facility to cope.. disappointed! visited The Alma Wandsworth on 03 Dec 2016

Good morning to be honest i was a little disappointed this year as to last. The food was cold, the coffee arrived with out milk and sugar. But i must mention the way you have sorted my error out with the payment, that i do thank you, too many things on my mind at the time. On that note i have provisionally booked for next year. visited The Alma Wandsworth on 02 Dec 2016

After I have approved the wine, I expect the glasses of my guests to be filled first, not mine. Otherwise the service was pleasant, attentive and correct. The menu was interesting and I think we all enjoyed all three courses. visited The Alma Wandsworth on 21 Nov 2016

We really like the Alma but I'm afraid last night's visit was rather disappointing and would make me think twice about eating here again. Firstly although arriving early in the evening we were served our food very late. We arrived at 7 and got our starters at 8. For starters we had the meat platter... much of which tasted somewhat rancid. We had the camembert platter... on which the bread sticks were stale and we had the soup, which was fine but very large for a starter. I would suggest the option for a small bowl. Of the main meals the lamb stew was very dry and both vegetarian options were really not nice. The squash/lentils with onions thrown in was particularly unappetising. The atmosphere was good as always and the staff friendly but I'm afraid the food... especially for the price was just not up to scratch. visited The Alma Wandsworth on 17 Nov 2016

This was a booking for 12 people to celebrate the birthday of my Mother who turned 80 on the day. Overall the experience was good, not great. Whilst we can understand some of the reasons, we weren't happy about having to be so prescriptive regarding our menu selections in the days leading up to the event. Having to choose not only our starters and main courses days before, but also having to commit to how a steak should be cooked or which sauce will accompany it, we all found detracted from the enjoyment. It would have been far more preferable to be able to arrive and choose what we'd like on the day. On the day itself the staff were attentive, friendly and kind. Most of us found that the quality of our food was good but that the temperature of the food was not quite as hoped. It was only luke warm for most of us. All in all a good experience but, to be honest, we'd explore other options for the next large party booking that we have. visited The Alma Wandsworth on 30 Oct 2016

My wife's sirloin steak was so tough it was inedible. It also had the taste of being off (and believe me, we know the difference between off and well hung/dry aged). You took it off the bill, as you should, We waited 40 minutes between starter and main. Too long; especially when you only give us 2 hours for dinner. visited The Alma Wandsworth on 26 Oct 2016

Hi there, I was disappointed by my recent trip to the Alma. It was not the level of service that I was expecting to receive. I was aware that we needed to leave the table at a certain time, but we were reminded constantly of this by the wait staff which made the overall meal itself not very enjoyable as we were always watching the clock. We had to ask many times for water and the wine provided was not put in an ice bucket. We didn't get served by one waiter but several which meant no one really knew what was going on. I wanted to write a really glowing review as I live so close by and would like to return again, but sadly I didn't feel the overall experience was up to standard. If you have any questions on this, let me know. Thanks, Alice Farley visited The Alma Wandsworth on 23 Oct 2016

Very sorry but our experience was poor. More specifically the food was most disappointing. I had a pigeon starter which was unfortunately the smallest and most u exciting starter I have ever had. Alongside this my friend had the mussels...all 7 of them. It was a real shame because as a place to have a few pints it's a great spot and I've been going for.many years. But as for your food / chef I think a wholesale rethink is required. visited The Alma Wandsworth on 21 Oct 2016

The only downside to the visit was that our 3 o'clock table wasn't ready intil 3.40. The service and food was excellent. There was plenty of room on our table for the 8 of us plus 2 high chairs and 2 childrens buggies. I was disappointed in the desserts. There was only one that I was interested in and it was unavailable. The choice of ice creams was also limited. visited The Alma Wandsworth on 16 Oct 2016

When we arrived, we were sat at our table and it took 25minutes to get our first drink. I am not exaggerating. Apparently the bar was busy, but seriously - how long does it take to pour a beer! The food was fantastic so 5stars for that. At the end when paying the bill, I asked if service was included and the waitress said "don't bother, they don't give it to us anyway, can you just give me some cash" haha, unreal! visited The Alma Wandsworth on 13 Oct 2016

The Alma is always my first choice of a place to spend a night in London. It's comfortable, quiet and characterful (in a good way) and the restaurant is excellent value. The staff are the thing that make the place though - helpful and attentive. visited The Alma Wandsworth on 12 Oct 2016
