The Cow

Description

The Cow is Notting Hill's saloon bar and dining room by Tom Conran. It offers the achingly hip denizens of Westbourne Park the best of both worlds: Downstairs is a rough-&-ready Irish tavern with a deliberately shabby-chic vibe where shellfish is the order of the day here and the counter groans under the weight of winkles, whelks, clams & very good oysters. It would be also criminal not to mention that it's famed for a brilliant pint of Guinness and often sees punters flock here for a sip of the good stuff.

Upstairs is another world, all crisp white tablecloths, pale yellow walls & the odd publicity-shy celeb considering the understated menu, inspired by Northern Europe. Once again, oysters are the star turn, but the likes of its famous seafood platter shine here, as well as saffron steamed mussels with fennel and cream, a signature fish stew and a whole cracked chilli and garlic crab. The desserts are not to go amiss either, with the likes of banoffee pie and Yorkshire rhubarb trifle up for devouring.
