Description

A veritable palace of refreshment atop Winchmore Hill with an enviable selection of ales, fine wines and much more as well having one of the most spectacular function rooms you can find. Did we mention the tranquil garden? Oh yes, just then.

The Kings Head looms large atop Winchmore Hill in North London dishing up fresh pub food, guest ales, refreshing beers, and fine wines for all to enjoy. The Kings Head was one of the Evening Standard Pub of the Year finalists in 2004. With  their wonderful large bar, a striking Vaulted Dining Room, covered terrace and decked beer garden, they're one of the few gastro pubs in the area, and rare amongst them, offering selected sport via Sky TV and a large capacity room for private hire. Mixing originality with a sense of humor, find suits of armor and thrones to the interior, not forgetting the "Rude Room"!

We enjoyed a Sunday family lunch at the Kings Head to celebrate a birthday. Our request for a specific table had been accomodated which we were very grateful for as an elderly family member has mobility issues. Prompt efficient and friendly service, good menu choice and competitive pricing. The only downside was the pulled pork croquette starter was drier than expected, but apart from that no complaints. visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 05 Feb 2017

We had a lovely evening the room we had reserved was a perfect size for our party of guests and very convenient to the bar. We had ordered a variety of platter to have served at a couple of time through the evening which worked out perfectly. My only complaint was that for the price of each platter, I felt that the food served on each one wasn't very plentiful, especially the fruit and cheese ones. after the party some of the guests actually made comments about how good the food was but there wasn't very much of certain items. I would certainly arrange another gathering here again as everyone was very helpful and the environment very comfortable Thank you for your hospitality visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 28 Jan 2017

We loved this private room as it was just the right size for us and away from noise of rest of the pub. 1 order came up wrong and 1 came up cold. The salads that we asked to be mains were rather small. Otherwise the food was fine and service was attentive. visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 25 Jan 2017

I arranged a 40th Birthday party in the Long Room and would like to express our absolute satisfaction in all respects. Superb setting, superb service and delightful food and accommodating management. The events manager Lou and Bartender Tom looked after the party fantastically. Absolute pleasure and will certainly utilise for future events. visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 22 Jan 2017

I'm a regular visitor to the Kings Head and normally we're very impressed with the food, which is why we decided to have lunch here on Christmas day. The staff were excellent, friendly and hardworking, but the food was not up to the usual high standard. The exact same roast turkey meal just 2 weeks earlier, when the restaurant was busier than it was on Christmas day, was delicious...moist turkey, crispy roast potatoes, delicately prepared veg, however, on Christmas day the meal had the taste and appearance of something between school meals and meals on wheels! Thick chunks of dry turkey, massive roast potatoes with an oily membrane instead of a crisp outside, enormous veiny leaves of cabbage and sprouts cooked to a pulp. Inedible. The dessert I had booked was brioche bread and butter pudding, but what I received was bread pudding. The two stars are awarded for the staff and the starter. Other than that, it was a terrible experience, which we paid well over the odds for. The worst thing about it was, we know they can do so much better! I won't be going back. visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 25 Dec 2016

I'm a big fan of the King's Head and in the past have had some lovely meals there so booked for our work Christmas meal out. Our table was booked for 6:30 and we preordered from the Christmas menu. After arriving we had to ask three times for the starters to be served. Finally they were, at 745 with no explanation as to why it took so long, particularly unforgivable as they were all cold with the exception of the soup! The quality of the starters was very variable. The soup and chicken liver pate were very pleasant but the salmon salad and chorizo meat selection very disappointing. The main courses were very nice and generally enjoyed by all, although the majority of the party were ready to eat anything by the time they were served. The desserts were pleasant enough with the figgy pudding being the highlight. The blue cheese was very small in quantity and the Apple and cranberry crumble actually a bowl of stewed cranberries. The bread pudding divided opinion with many finding it rubbery. In all the meal had highs and lows but I left feeling that the food and service were just not good enough for the price paid. visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 21 Dec 2016

Steak was not cooked as ordered. Food was only mediocre, steak was best although part of the table had to wait for new order. The starters are scarce. Bread should be included. I would not recommend the food unfortunately... The chips were a bit like the end of the chip shop bag! Turkey got good reviews! visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 17 Dec 2016

We booked out the upstairs room and it was perfect. Wide open space and quiet. The only reason we did not give this 5 stars is that half way through our booking a chef came upstairs. Sat in the room and ate his food. We found this to be unprofessional as we had booked this room out. visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 14 Dec 2016

The main course was delicious and loads of it but we were all disappointed with the starter, very small bits of smoked salmon, and my daughter had the soup, which was too thick and tasted mainly of apple. My desert was fruit tart, that was like yesterday's puff pastry microwaved. For £35, and no complimentary glass of wine, we were disappointed and wouldn't have it again. I've eaten in kings head many times, had my birthday meal (table of 10) which was lovely. visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 12 Dec 2016

The service wasn't very good, we were at the back of the eating area & I think the staff had forgotten we were there. There's NO chicken on the menu & the 2 fish dishes had sold out (at 7.30pm) visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 08 Dec 2016

We had a good evening, the food and service were excellent. And noticed that this time (unlike my last visit), there was no loud music blaring from the bar, so the whole experience was much better. Staff and manager very helpful. The only complaint was that you had run out of a number of dishes by the time we arrived at 7.30pm, which was a little disappointing. You must have known you would have a large group in that night. joa visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 08 Dec 2016

I booked a table for Sunday lunch for my wife's Birthday but when we arrived at The King's Head they had no record of it. It was all a bit awkward, but we were finally seated. Our waiter told us that on your Birthday you qualified for a free drink. Our waiter (who was fantastic) said the management could not process it so we couldn't get a free drink after all. It doesn't take much to make your customers feel welcome and feel relaxed and want to recommend to others, unfortunately this was not the case on our visit. visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 04 Dec 2016

We were quite a large party and this was a new venue for us, so we were a bit wary, especially because of some of the less flattering reviews. However, we need not have worried. The food was really good. Everyone got what they ordered, despite some last minute changes in our group and all agreed the food and service were excellent. We were not hurried, the service was very good and attentive. Would not hesitate to go there again. Thank you and well done. visited The Kings Head - Geronimo Inns on 28 Oct 2016

I've been to this pub quite a few times over the last three years and always had good food. Less regularly recently - the last time being in April when we had a great meal. However last Saturday (17/9/16) was a disaster. To start with my starter was so hot (was it heated in a microwave?) it burnt the roof of my mouth quite badly. In fact three days later I still can't eat on that side without discomfort and pain and my mouth was bleeding this morning. So much for the crab cakes - which didn't taste of crab as they they didn't seem to have any discernible crab meat in them. They were however packed with sweet corn, a vegetable not mentioned in the ingredients and not one I enjoy (i.e. I wouldn't have picked this dish if I had known). I went for the burger as the rest of the menu was somewhat uninspiring. I ordered a medium one (as less than that was not available) and my girlfriends daughter ordered well done. Mine was closer to well done and hers was very very rare! My girlfriends polenta was burnt (and I do mean very burnt) and to top it off her sticky toffee pudding was cold!. I called over the waitress and asked her how it should be served and she did agree it should be warm, even insisted it left the kitchen warm. But it was just cold sponge - not warm or gooey or appetising - at that point I refused to pay for the pudding as it was so misrepresented. What should have been a special occasion was a complete disaster. I should say though the staff did a sterling job even offered to get the manager - unfortunately they came back to say the manager was too busy. Considering I had refused to pay for some of his food you would have though he would at least be interested to find out why!!! Poor food and poor management - worse meal I have had this year

I have been to KH a lot and live locally. My meal on Friday night with friends was completely ruined by the very loud music in the restaurant area. We had to shout to be heard (there was just 3 of us), and the music got louder and the base more pounding as the evening progressed. I asked for the music to be lowered, to no avail. We left earlier than we had planned as we were feeling uncomfortable because of the volume of the music. I spoke to the manager who apologised as the music was 'coming from the bar area'. Surely this is irrelevant, I didn't choose to sit the bar area, I chose to eat in your restaurant. I will not be eating at KH again, and I won't be recommending to my friends either.
