Royal Albert forms a sophisticated haven in the mass of New Cross's more rough and ready bars and pubs. Whilst keeping with the tried and tested formula of dark wood furnishings, dim lighting and antique furniture popular with traditional London pubs, it smartens up with ornate lamps, taxidermy and leather sofas.
The slightly higher prices of this London gastro pub mean that it attracts an older and more discerning clientele, rather than the students that pack out surrounding venues. Beers are the main attraction of the drinks menu and you can sample some great Belgian, craft beers as well as real ales here.
They also have a small food menu of great British dishes such as slow cooked pork belly and sirloin steak. Watch out for their regular film and quiz nights which work well in the sophisticated yet small and cosy setting.
