Description

The Great Exhibition is a Victorian pub with a modern twist. The quirky interior filled with wooden tables, wall exhibits and leather sofas give it a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They serve up delicious British pub food at unbeatable prices. Most meals are less than a tenner which is a great deal for the quality. The Sunday roasts are also a big hit with visitors. The pub has not one, but two beer gardens to enjoy when the weather permits. The gin alley isn't something you'll see everyday and was made for exactly what you think, drinking gin.

Besides the delicious food and long list of drinks they are known for their unique events. Saturday mornings you can find artisan markets with locals trading craft items while other evenings there are ale and pie society events and real ale festivals. The Great Exhibition is perfect for a relaxing afternoon, a family meal or drinks any day of the week.

we wouldn’t expect brunch to be particularly rushed affair, but we had to wait for over an hour for our food on Saturday. The staff were very apologetic and offered us free drinks, but we had already paid for bottomless drinks. The DJs music was good, but way too loud; it was a real effort to hear what people were saying. visited The Great Exhibition on 14 Oct 2017

Food was good, service was excellent. A friend wasn't happy with his meal and the staff allowed him to swap it, no questions asked. We will definitely come back. visited The Great Exhibition on 14 Oct 2017

The food was lovely but having to queue for 15 mins to get another drink really disrupted my enjoyment. It was my husbands birthday and wanted a relaxed enjoyable time but this was not the case. It would make more sense to have staff walking round with top ups rather than a massive queue. Having spent £50 I was expecting much more. visited The Great Exhibition on 14 Oct 2017

Terrible! Ran out of just about everything. Wouldn't even accept our orders for 30 mins, by which time they had run out of veggie option. No communication from the staff on anything. Walked out in the end. So bad. visited The Great Exhibition on 08 Oct 2017

A lovely relaxed and friendly pub. I went with a group of friends for a bottomless brunch, which was a whole lot of fun and we ended up staying and playing board games after. Yummie mimosas and even yummier full english breakfast :) Great fun, and the staff are very accommodating. Will be going back again! visited The Great Exhibition on 30 Sep 2017

The service was great, the guys there are dead nice and the beer options are great but I wasn't that impressed with my roast to be honest, mainly the beef and the potatoes, which are pretty much the most important things! The potatoes weren't cooked well and not in the slightest bit crispy and the beef was really tough, not over cooked, just tough and really hard to chew. I have to say, for £17 I was disappointed. visited The Great Exhibition on 24 Sep 2017

Staff were really friendly, everyone smiled and said hello (and goodbye). I didn't finish my food because I wasn't very hungry, but they were so concerned that I didn't like the food that they noted the half-full plate and came over to ask if everything was OK with the meal. It will always be one of my favourite spots 😊 peanut3951 visited The Great Exhibition on 12 Sep 2017

Food and atmosphere were amazing. Staff were lovely. Music was good. But after a litre of mimosa I didn't feel like I'd had any alcohol at all. Must be mostly OJ. Couldn't fit any more liquid in so left a little disappointed! visited The Great Exhibition on 12 Aug 2017

Disappointing. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The botomless brunch was disappointing though. The full English was small for the price, one tiny sausage and one rasher of bacon, two rubbery eggs. The mimosa was mostly cheap orange juice. For the price I would expect a much better breakfast and better mimosa's!! Can't fault the staff but I would not go back. visited The Great Exhibition on 12 Aug 2017

We had a really lovely day as I do love the great exhibition however I was a bit disappointed with my roast. I always said that the great exhibition did one of the best pub roast dinners and I have to say it has massively gone down hill since the last time I was in which is really sad as your roast was always fabulous. Great experience. Food was decent for the price and the atmosphere was great. Could use more staff, though. Had a lot of long waits at the bar. Hello, I appreciate that it was a busy Sunday, however my family had to literally scream at each other to be heard over the table. It made for a really really stressful lunch and where we would have usually taken our time, had 3 courses and coffee - we were all very anxious to get out of there. I do appreciate that many people in building is always going to be noisy, however add really loud background noise makes for a super stressful Sunday. Based on this we would not return. The food was good, but tension outshone the food. Ellen visited The Great Exhibition on 19 Feb 2017

Sorry that you found the atmosphere too loud for your liking. As you said, it was very busy and a lot of people book tables for our Sunday jazz band who play every week. Obviously, that sort of atmosphere isn't to your liking and we can only apologise for that. Regards, Ali Everett General Manager

Food (Sunday roast) not as good as previous visits. Tasted like it had been reheated visited The Great Exhibition on 12 Feb 2017

Reply from The Great Exhibition

Hi, Thanks for the feedback. Did you speak to a member of staff on the day? We can assure you that nothing had been reheated as everything is cooked fresh on Sunday mornings and we welcome anyone to pop in to the kitchen with us and see how our chefs work for themselves. We hope you come back to give us another chance as we are very proud of our roast dinners and can only apologise for this rare dip in quality on our part. Regards, Ali Everett General Manager

The food was quite nice, the beers are good, the orange juice in the prosecco and orange juice is bad quality 'from concentrate' - we all agreed less of it and better quality would be the way to go. The DJ was far too loud by the end of lunch. No one in the pub was listening as far as we could tell so why have it? It just means people have to shout to be heard. visited The Great Exhibition on 28 Jan 2017

Food super good. I had to change the time, due to train delays and they were so helpful, I arrived to a table with my name, had a tab and friends said they loved it. Sunday lunch is normally around £15 but the Christmas lunch was £70 a head for adults and £35 for kids. A bit steep and did not feel worth it. Will not be back for a holiday meal. visited The Great Exhibition on 25 Dec 2016

Reply from The Great Exhibition

Hi there, You are correct that our roasts are usually priced at around £15. The £70 per head offer was for Christmas Day only. No other day of the year. I had 6 members of my team give up their Christmas Day with their families to work here and serve. Everyone here did a fantastic job on that day and I was very proud of all of them. Unfortunately, Christmas Day is always going to be more expensive than regular days. I can assure you that we were the cheapest in the area and will be again next Christmas. Sorry that you didn't enjoy your day due to the pricing. Regards, Ali Everett General Manager

Unfortunately, our visit to the great exhibition wasn't great this time. The pub was suffering from the new year chaos the night before and this was clear to see - tables not clean and water / tissue all over the toilet floors. Food wasn't great and service left a bit to be desired which is not what we expected from an establishment with such a good reputation. Would recommend for an evening out with friends but not a Sunday dinner with family. Hopefully the next visit will be better visited The Great Exhibition on 01 Jan 2017

Very very busy and frantic environment. It seemed that the place was overbooked and filled beyond capacity. The beef was advertised on the menu as "rare" but it was anything but and even after we sent it back it still came welldone. The staff were lovely though, mild-mannered and sympathetic, doing what they could in a pretty chaotic set-up. We originally went to the Great Exhibition for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago but left disappointed as they were fully booked. So to avoid disappointment I booked for last Sunday and arrived with great expectations, how quickly my mood changed. There were 3 of us and we were shown a table that was the size of a small dustbin lid. How they expected to get three plates on the table I don't know. What made matters worse was the table was located no more than a metre away from a live jazz band. I like jazz as much as the next person but a metre away? When I complained to the bar staff it was a very much a take it or leave it attitude. No apology, more of a we are so busy we don't really care and if you don't take the table then I'm sure three tiny jazz loving children can enjoy the table. We left with our wallets and eardrums safely intact. These people are believing their own hype its a nice pub with good food but nothing more. Certainly its staff need to learn some common courtesies. Sadly you don't need to do anymore than that to be banged out in East Dulwich on Sunday lunchtime. visited The Great Exhibition on 20 Nov 2016

Pub was great. Booze and dessert were great. While all our Sunday roasts were enjoyable they lacked the wow factor that you sometimes get for similar money in other venues. visited The Great Exhibition on 16 Oct 2016

Love the staff in here, super chilled and helpful. They don't scrimp on the booze either, unlike a lot of places that like to water it prosecco down before giving it to you. They weren't super strict on the timings either. Food was nice- defo in one of my top 5 bottomless brunches in London

Had a gathering of 20 for my birthday, love the look of this place, great staff, really good food which considering our number was served more or less all together. Only down side was the dj on the night played only what he seemed to want to play, not a good mix at all, including some very bad jazz! Shame as it would have rounded off an otherwise enjoyable day. sd visited The Great Exhibition on 30 Jul 2016

Went for brunch and the food was terrible. Cold and poor quality ingredients. Didn't go for the bottomless brunch which they seemed surprised by so clearly just selling the gimmick of 'bottomless' and the food is not a priority.

Great Sunday roasts and puddings but won't return due to jazz band starting half way through lunch and making it impossible to have a conversation. Too loud for the baby as well. Without the band it would be a near perfect Sunday lunch outing, but with it, its impossible to have the relaxed catch up with friends we want. We've been six times and had to leave three of those times more quickly than we would have had the band not been playing. We like jazz, (and the band is great), but not being blasted with it during lunch! We had saturday brunch there once but the food was absolutely dreadful! Cold and tasteless eggs benedict, which seemed made of very poor quality ingredients. We didn't finish it because it was so unpleasant and there are much better brunch options in east dulwich. Its also a really baby friendly place generally, but there are no changing facilitites and the ladies loo is absolutely freezing, so I had to change the baby in the car. Needs a bit of work to make the facilitites as good as the pub and more consistency in the quality of the cooking. nell234 visited The Great Exhibition on 07 Feb 2016

Came for the brunch with bottomless cocktails with my partner. We liked the concept but the food was very disappointing. Half of the cooked breakfast was stone cold and the quality was not great. It seems good value for money but we ended up just leaving very disappointed. The Bloody Mary's are not great - so we didn't even take advantage of the limitless supply! js78 visited The Great Exhibition on 06 Feb 2016

Sunday lunch. Good food, plenty of it. The must is good, but not if you want to have any conversation. Always ask for a table far away from the seriously loud jazz band. Or even better just go another time. One of our guests had to leave have way through due to a headache, that's just how loud it was. ro1985 visited The Great Exhibition on 10 Jan 2016

Pub does a great quiz night on Tuesdays. Alfie the quiz master is hilarious. Always a great atmosphere and the food is fab (I recommend the squid and chorizo salad!)

Absolutely awesome pub. Great buzz and vibe, play great music, live jazz, massive food portions and a bit more originality on the food menu compared to the standard pub menu you see in London. Nice craft beers on tap and the garden is great.

Terrible place - I went here last week and had a really bad experience. The food was unpalatable and the manager was unhelpful. I wouldn't recommend going here - and I certainly won't be returning.

Can't beat the cheap prices at this place. The atmosphere is great too, will definitely be heading back!
