Description

The Great Exhibition is a Victorian pub with a modern twist. The quirky interior filled with wooden tables, wall exhibits and leather sofas give it a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They serve up delicious British pub food at unbeatable prices. Most meals are less than a tenner which is a great deal for the quality. The Sunday roasts are also a big hit with visitors. The pub has not one, but two beer gardens to enjoy when the weather permits. The gin alley isn't something you'll see everyday and was made for exactly what you think, drinking gin.

Besides the delicious food and long list of drinks they are known for their unique events. Saturday mornings you can find artisan markets with locals trading craft items while other evenings there are ale and pie society events and real ale festivals. The Great Exhibition is perfect for a relaxing afternoon, a family meal or drinks any day of the week.

We enjoyed the quiz however we re frustrated at the odd time keeping... It didn't actually start until 840pm which meant I had to leave before the end due to babysitting issues (this was 1030pm). Hoping it was a one off otherwise we will go to Alfie s quiz at The White Horse in Peckham. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2018-05-01

Really enjoyed it thanks. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only comment would be if the desserts were more like 'puddings' ie Apple pie and custard etc. considering most folk had roast dinners. Cheers Visited The Great Exhibition on 2018-04-29

Met up with some friends for a Sunday roast and the meal and atmosphere were just right! We booked a table over the phone the day before however, depending on numbers, you should be able to find one without a reservation. Both table and bar service was good: friendly and efficient! The place wasn’t too crowded either and the background music was really good (heard ‘Baltimore’ by Nina Simone and other gems). Bonus points for being a dog friendly pub. Great music, atmosphere, service from lovely friendly staff however I am sorry to say that the quality of the roasts seems to have gone down since the beginning of the year. A shame but hopefully you can bring the standards back to what they were Visited The Great Exhibition on 2018-03-25

We booked an area to celebrate my wife's 30th birthday and I can't fault any part of the experience. I had plenty of contact leading up to the day, there were no issues with increasing/decreasing numbers as and when they changed and on the day the staff were friendly, attentive and really tried to make the whole experience special. Drinks were continuously replenished and there was never a wait at the bar, and the food was brilliant! Thank you so much. Tim Visited The Great Exhibition on 2018-03-24

We didn’t have a great experience here on Sunday. 5 of us for lunch, the vegetarian lunch came out 15 mins before the others, then 2 more roasts, then 10 mins later the last 2. The roast beef was over done and dry, as was the chicken roulade (roast chicken option). We did tell the waitress who politely apologised but that was it. What a shame as great atmosphere but they’re let down by the food sadly. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2018-02-25

Not great. We didn't get sat at the table I requested. Our food was very late as I think they'd forgotten to put through the order and the staff were a bit too relaxed about it. It's a great venue for big groups. The food/drinks are reasonably priced and good quality and the staff were really friendly. Its can be quite loud as there is a live DJ in residence but that's only a minor issue! Visited The Great Exhibition on 2018-02-03

I celebrated my Birthday with brunch at The Great Exhibition. What a wonderful afternoon we all had. We were a group of 20. The staff were very attentive and everyone felt very looked after. The only critism we have is the DJ finished early. We were told the management wanted the sport on. Well, that really was not what we as customers wanted. We thought the DJ, like the rest of the staff was brilliant. We were really enjoying the music which added to the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. A major no, no from me and my group of 20 people to stop the DJ spinning his tunes. This would be a deal breaker, as I choose The Great Exhibition for the yummy food and brilliant atmosphete created by the DJ. Thank you to all the staff on the day for making my Birthday a real fun afternoon. Not a cool move to stop the DJ, though. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2018-02-03

Fantastic brunch with the girls last Saturday Staff was very accommodating and patient (as we were not the tamest bunch to handle) but the prosecco kept flowing and the breakfast is decent enough my only suggestion is that you offer another vodka based cocktail as bottomless Bloody Mary's do not gone down well (literally! lool) Also for the cost of the full English it should come with 2 eggs and sausages pleeeease if nothing else then to soak up all the alcohol you are guaranteed to drink - but even if they don't make any changes this is still the best value for money and friendliest bottomless brunch in South East!! Heyyy, Just wanted to say thank you so much for having me & my girlfriend for brunch on Saturday. Everything was amazing, the food, the atmosphere, and of course, your attentive staff. You guys made Saturday super special for us, as it was one of her last days in London (where I live) before returning to the USA (where she lives). So thanks again I appreciate it and hopefully you'll see us both back again soon. Carly Visited The Great Exhibition on 2018-01-13

I was impressed with the set up of the brunch with the unlimited brunch table and help yourself mimosa carafes, however I feel like some of the staff let our experience down. We were made to wait outside in the freezing cold for 15mins before our booking/when the pub opened. (Surely we could have been offered a warm place to wait before we ordered anything?). Then we weren't served once we sat down or even told how the brunch works. When our food arrived, my pancakes were cold. I told a member of staff and they came back exactly the same but microwaved... I mean really? The pancakes were soggy and flat and the maple syrup went gloopy and dry. The atmosphere with the dj made it enjoyable although I won't be going again with this service. I really hope they think more about their customers' experience in the future because they have a good thing going. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2017-12-09

Nice pub and nice food. Unfortunately, we'd booked for a Christmas lunch only to be told that the Christmas menu wasn't available until the next day (this was 8th December so we weren't especially early). The booking could only be made on line so it was difficult to discuss our requirements for the Christmas menu. We'd phoned prior to the online booking and explained that we were booking for a Christmas lunch. Also, there was no mention on the online menu that it didn't start until 9th December. So we stayed and we all had a burger. Which was nice but not what we were looking for. More clarity on their part would have avoided the confusion and our disappointment. we wouldn’t expect brunch to be particularly rushed affair, but we had to wait for over an hour for our food on Saturday. The food was lovely but having to queue for 15 mins to get another drink really disrupted my enjoyment. It was my husbands birthday and wanted a relaxed enjoyable time but this was not the case. The service was great, the guys there are dead nice and the beer options are great but I wasn't that impressed with my roast to be honest, mainly the beef and the potatoes, which are pretty much the most important things! The potatoes weren't cooked well and not in the slightest bit crispy and the beef was really tough, not over cooked, just tough and really hard to chew. I have to say, for £17 I was disappointed. Staff were really friendly, everyone smiled and said hello (and goodbye). I didn't finish my food because I wasn't very hungry, but they were so concerned that I didn't like the food that they noted the half-full plate and came over to ask if everything was OK with the meal. Disappointing. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The botomless brunch was disappointing though. Food was great but felt really rushed. We'd booked for 1.5 hours and had only been there about 50 mins so didn't really appreciate my plate being taken literally the very second I put my last piece of potato in my mouth. Good food, beer and atmosphere but the service was average. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2017-03-05

Hello, I appreciate that it was a busy Sunday, however my family had to literally scream at each other to be heard over the table. It made for a really really stressful lunch and where we would have usually taken our time, had 3 courses and coffee - we were all very anxious to get out of there. I do appreciate that many people in building is always going to be noisy, however add really loud background noise makes for a super stressful Sunday. Based on this we would not return. The food was good, but tension outshone the food. Ellen Visited The Great Exhibition on 2017-02-19

Sorry that you found the atmosphere too loud for your liking. As you said, it was very busy and a lot of people book tables for our Sunday jazz band who play every week. Obviously, that sort of atmosphere isn't to your liking and we can only apologise for that. Regards, Ali Everett General Manager

It was very loud, very difficult to talk. Noted the younger demographic so definitely not a place for leisurely relaxed brunch session. Not sure it's the place for me. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2017-02-18

Food (Sunday roast) not as good as previous visits. Tasted like it had been reheated Visited The Great Exhibition on 2017-02-12

Reply from The Great Exhibition

Hi, Thanks for the feedback. Did you speak to a member of staff on the day? We can assure you that nothing had been reheated as everything is cooked fresh on Sunday mornings and we welcome anyone to pop in to the kitchen with us and see how our chefs work for themselves. We hope you come back to give us another chance as we are very proud of our roast dinners and can only apologise for this rare dip in quality on our part. Regards, Ali Everett General Manager

The food was quite nice, the beers are good, the orange juice in the prosecco and orange juice is bad quality 'from concentrate' - we all agreed less of it and better quality would be the way to go. The DJ was far too loud by the end of lunch. No one in the pub was listening as far as we could tell so why have it? It just means people have to shout to be heard. Food super good. I had to change the time, due to train delays and they were so helpful, I arrived to a table with my name, had a tab and friends said they loved it. Only slight problem, when we came to pay the gent serving said we couldn't split the bill - eventually worked out but should be well known. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2017-01-28

Sunday lunch is normally around £15 but the Christmas lunch was £70 a head for adults and £35 for kids. A bit steep and did not feel worth it. Will not be back for a holiday meal. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2016-12-25

Reply from The Great Exhibition

Hi there, You are correct that our roasts are usually priced at around £15. The £70 per head offer was for Christmas Day only. No other day of the year. I had 6 members of my team give up their Christmas Day with their families to work here and serve. Everyone here did a fantastic job on that day and I was very proud of all of them. Unfortunately, Christmas Day is always going to be more expensive than regular days. I can assure you that we were the cheapest in the area and will be again next Christmas. Sorry that you didn't enjoy your day due to the pricing. Regards, Ali Everett General Manager

Unfortunately, our visit to the great exhibition wasn't great this time. The pub was suffering from the new year chaos the night before and this was clear to see - tables not clean and water / tissue all over the toilet floors. Food wasn't great and service left a bit to be desired which is not what we expected from an establishment with such a good reputation. Would recommend for an evening out with friends but not a Sunday dinner with family. Hopefully the next visit will be better Visited The Great Exhibition on 2017-01-01

Very very busy and frantic environment. It seemed that the place was overbooked and filled beyond capacity. The beef was advertised on the menu as "rare" but it was anything but and even after we sent it back it still came welldone. The staff were lovely though, mild-mannered and sympathetic, doing what they could in a pretty chaotic set-up. I love this pub, they have lovely wines there but that particular Christmas meal I was looking forward to and I felt disappointed :-( Visited The Great Exhibition on 2016-12-18

What a great pub. We had a table for 8, which included 2 children, and there was a Sunday Jazz Band. Atmosphere was brilliant, staff very friendly and helpful, the only negative was all the vegetables on our dinners were undercooked! Chef may want to try cooking for slightly longer next time. Having said that it won't put us off returning to this venue. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2016-12-11

the place is well maintained and the atmosphere is magic especially with the band playing every Sunday. fantastic staff and great food, we've booked a table for 6 for a two hours slot unfortunately some of us were very late, despite that they kept our table and reserve us another table to move on when other customers, who were booked after us, arrived, so we have been able to stay after our booking time :) Definitely going again! We originally went to the Great Exhibition for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago but left disappointed as they were fully booked. So to avoid disappointment I booked for last Sunday and arrived with great expectations, how quickly my mood changed. There were 3 of us and we were shown a table that was the size of a small dustbin lid. How they expected to get three plates on the table I don't know. What made matters worse was the table was located no more than a metre away from a live jazz band. I like jazz as much as the next person but a metre away? When I complained to the bar staff it was a very much a take it or leave it attitude. No apology, more of a we are so busy we don't really care and if you don't take the table then I'm sure three tiny jazz loving children can enjoy the table. We left with our wallets and eardrums safely intact. These people are believing their own hype its a nice pub with good food but nothing more. Certainly its staff need to learn some common courtesies. Sadly you don't need to do anymore than that to be banged out in East Dulwich on Sunday lunchtime. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2016-11-20

Love the staff in here, super chilled and helpful. They don't scrimp on the booze either, unlike a lot of places that like to water it prosecco down before giving it to you. They weren't super strict on the timings either. Food was nice- defo in one of my top 5 bottomless brunches in London

Had a gathering of 20 for my birthday, love the look of this place, great staff, really good food which considering our number was served more or less all together. Only down side was the dj on the night played only what he seemed to want to play, not a good mix at all, including some very bad jazz! Shame as it would have rounded off an otherwise enjoyable day. Went for brunch and the food was terrible. Cold and poor quality ingredients. Didn't go for the bottomless brunch which they seemed surprised by so clearly just selling the gimmick of 'bottomless' and the food is not a priority.

Great Sunday roasts and puddings but won't return due to jazz band starting half way through lunch and making it impossible to have a conversation. Too loud for the baby as well. Without the band it would be a near perfect Sunday lunch outing, but with it, its impossible to have the relaxed catch up with friends we want. We've been six times and had to leave three of those times more quickly than we would have had the band not been playing. We like jazz, (and the band is great), but not being blasted with it during lunch! We had saturday brunch there once but the food was absolutely dreadful! Cold and tasteless eggs benedict, which seemed made of very poor quality ingredients. We didn't finish it because it was so unpleasant and there are much better brunch options in east dulwich. Its also a really baby friendly place generally, but there are no changing facilitites and the ladies loo is absolutely freezing, so I had to change the baby in the car. Needs a bit of work to make the facilitites as good as the pub and more consistency in the quality of the cooking. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2016-02-07

Came for the brunch with bottomless cocktails with my partner. We liked the concept but the food was very disappointing. Half of the cooked breakfast was stone cold and the quality was not great. It seems good value for money but we ended up just leaving very disappointed. The Bloody Mary's are not great - so we didn't even take advantage of the limitless supply! Sunday lunch. Good food, plenty of it. The must is good, but not if you want to have any conversation. Always ask for a table far away from the seriously loud jazz band. Or even better just go another time. One of our guests had to leave have way through due to a headache, that's just how loud it was. Visited The Great Exhibition on 2016-01-10

Absolutely awesome pub. Great buzz and vibe, play great music, live jazz, massive food portions and a bit more originality on the food menu compared to the standard pub menu you see in London. Nice craft beers on tap and the garden is great.
