My wife and I stayed for one night bed & breakfast and also for an evening meal as it was our anniversary ... in summary it was a great stay ... relaxed but special at the same time ... we did have to wait a long time for the evening meal as they were busy but the wait was worth the while and in a very atmospheric dining room ... the location was great and the common itself is lovely ... would definitely stay again ! visited The Windmill Clapham on 14 Oct 2017

Much better than expected. I haven't been to the windmill for a couple of years and they have upped their menu significantly. Our meals were great. Only criticism is the kids menu which was limited and the burger that came out was adult size...not much portion control visited The Windmill Clapham on 14 Oct 2017

Hello Thanks for your review and feedback. Its great to hear you've noticed a significant improvement in our menu since Ben took over. We've been working hard to provide tasty seasonal sophisticated dishes whilst keeping our traditional pub classics. Thanks for your thoughts on the Children's menu. I will most definitely feed this back to Ben and Ian our Head Chef so we can work on improving this. Now you've experienced our improvements I'll hope to see you again soon! Thanks again! Katie

I was a little nervous as some recent reviews were hardly complimentary - however, we have been here a couple of times before and had great food. So I took the chance and booked it. The food and service was great. Portions are a little too generous which can frighten the elderly with small appetites but tasty and well presented. Taking pudding home because we couldnt eat it all was a good way to keep everyone happy. Thank you. visited The Windmill Clapham on 07 Oct 2017

A few minor hiccups with the order. Our server tried to remember orders for six people a missed a few. All quickly correcred though. Apart from that the service was nicely paced, neither to rushed nor too slow. A most enjoyable evening. visited The Windmill Clapham on 12 Sep 2017

We had another excellent visit to the Windmill. We had lovely rooms overlooking the Common. We also had an early dinner with four very young children and were very well looked after in the dining room. We had very good food for dinner and breakfast the next morning. Really enjoyed our stay at the Windmill on 1st and 2nd of September. The disabled room adjacent to ours where my mother-in-law stayed was excellent. We all very much appreciated our family and friends evening meal together in the Blue Room on Friday night. A good chance for both families to get together before our children's wedding. visited The Windmill Clapham on 01 Sep 2017

The food was cold, it felt like the vegetables were microwaved - some of the vegetables were hard and didn't feel quite cooked. - the meat was okay and the service really good but I feel the food could do with a vast improvement. I was so disappointed because I felt the roast was really good last time I was here but now I'm not sure I'll be coming again visited The Windmill Clapham on 03 Sep 2017

Not much food left on the menu at 6:30pm - only one type of roast and also many of the normal mains had sold out. It took 4 attempts at an order to find a dish that was available. Despite booking online and receiving a confirmation email, we were granted a table through luck as there seemed to be no record of any bookings, and a table for two had to be made into a table for three. The waitress coped very well with the situation, and was very apologetic about having to continually deliver all the bad news. visited The Windmill Clapham on 13 Aug 2017

Unfortunately we had a very disappointing visit to The Windmill. The service was very slow and when we received our meals, all three were not very nice and given the cost for a roast dinner they were definitely not worth the money. The chicken was very dry, the lamb was so fatty that it couldn't be eaten and the vegetarian options was actually just a line of puff pastry on a plate. We were offered a free dessert but by that point it really wasn't good enough. visited The Windmill Clapham on 06 Aug 2017

Stayed for 3 nights - lovely quirky room, maybe a little too quirky (eg Roman blind had no means of securing other than lodging on window pane; taps so close to glass shelf above that difficult to operate). Great atmosphere and location but there were several let downs on the booking front and organisation. No clear communication up to the event in regards to paying for meals in advance in the 'shack package'- which led to me queuing for over 1 1/2 hours to pay for burgers for guests, when we had spent roughly £200 on them. Additionally, we had to ask security and manager on the night to remove those seated in our area we paid £100 for (we had rang earlier to inform them we would be arriving 7pm- and the reservation Sheets instead has stated 5pm. When I rang to explain the problems and complain afterwards, all I was offered was a 'glass of wine', despite spending over £500 that night in total. visited The Windmill Clapham on 08 Jul 2017

It was a good table for the rugby but for £20 a head (for children too!) we expected a decent cappuccino with our breakfast (filter coffee only- even though we were happy to pay extra, they even charged cappuccino prices for the filter coffee!) especially as it wasn't very busy. Also, we asked for toast with our brekkie and it never arrived. We were a little disappointed for the money we spent. visited The Windmill Clapham on 08 Jul 2017

Sunday's always a busy one at the Windmill on a sunny day. The food was quick and tasty although not quite complete but wasn't an issue as the portion was more than generous. It could have been so good but was the complete opposite. Service was appalling, I had to ask for our plates to be removed 30mins after we had finished eating, they were not busy at all, 2 waitresses spent their time talking rather than doing their job. There was 7 of us, 5 adults and 2 children and we had to wait for ever for the children's glasses of apple juice. The location is great and the pub is very nice but the service is just simply terrible, such a shame. visited The Windmill Clapham on 27 May 2017

The hotel is lovely and in a delightful location on Clapham Common - our room had a nice view out on to the common, hotel reception staff were very pleasant and welcoming. (Please note the 2 stars is for restaurant experience not hotel) We dined in the hotel restaurant in the evening which went from bad to worse. The waiting staff were distracted and very casual which we ignored for the most part as it was an occasion to be with family that we did not want to spoil. However the last straw was, after being ignored for at least 15-20mins we asked for the sweet menu and were told by our flippant waitress that 'the kitchen's closed sweetheart'! The Windmill advertises having the table for a 2 hours slot and you would presume within that time you would have the courtesy of being offered a starter, main and sweet (even a coffee would have been nice). When you complain we were pointed at, talked about and generally made to feel uncomfortable by team members as we had a drink in the bar. The next morning we made a point of talking to Ben Evans, General Manager who was seemingly not interested and continued to read emails as we talked to him - when we went to pay our bill his way of dealing with it was to refund the cost of our meal, very generous but not what we were aiming for when we complained. Hopefully the staff in question were offered further training in 'level of service' - believe it or not, not all of us are complaining to get money off! We would stay at the hotel again but would never dine in their restaurant. visited The Windmill Clapham on 19 May 2017

Service left a litte to be desired and it could be better value for money but portions were large. A return visit to the Windmill for Sunday lunch with friends (and babies) after not having visited for almost a year. Still has great atmosphere however we were made to feel rushed into ordering each course, and the food (various roasts) when it arrived was overpriced for what we received (quality and quantity). Went few weeks ago & had a lovely Sunday roast , so decided to go back for a family birthday lunch on Shnday. Setting is beautiful inside & out & my dad, who used to go there years ago, was so happy they still do Youngs beer and it tasted the same ✅....Food was a huge disappointment though! Couldn't get s knife through the beef & Yorkshire puddings were 'tough' aswell !!! On a positive , they did replace the meals & included a slight discount on the whole bill ...but can't help feel slightly disappointed especially as it was a birthday celebration !... visited The Windmill Clapham on 07 May 2017

Waiters were very nice and patient for such a large group. The food was very nice, however, the plates themselves were not heated beforehand and as a result some of the food got cold very quickly : chips. The Chips also arrived with little warmth but was to be expected as there were 14 of us, (a warm plate would have avoided that). All in All we all had a great time and I was really happy with how much room we had even though the table was meant for 12 we could have easily fitted 4-6 more people and remained comfortable. visited The Windmill Clapham on 01 May 2017

The put their hand up and told us to go to the bar until our table reservation time - I feel this could have been done in a more polite way and they could have offered to come get us once they were ready so we then didn't have to wait in a queue to go to our table. Once we were seated I ordered the Haddock fishcake option which was one of the pricier options, when it turned up the portion was about half the size of my fist which meant I finished my meal still hungry, waiting for the rest of my family to finish. Although it was tasty I don't feel the size or taste was worth the price. Overall it was a really disappointing experience, I have only been once before and thought the food was good but after this time I don't think I will be coming again. visited The Windmill Clapham on 09 Apr 2017

I really love this pub, the interior is gorgeous and the outside space is perfect but we went here on friday night for dinner and got sat in the darkest corner of the whole pub. When we asked to move we were told we couldn't although for the entire 90 minutes of our meal/stay the pub dining room remained half empty so we definitely could have moved to a lighter and brighter table... The food is good but over priced for what it was. Our bill was nearly £70 and we only had 1 drink each. The service though is what lets down this place so much. The waitress really didn't have a clue about anything we asked and was so slow and never checked in on us. I saw other tables around us trying to flag staff down for ages. A disappointing visit not worth the money in my opinion which is a shame as I live so close would love to come here more often. visited The Windmill Clapham on 07 Apr 2017

Having eaten a few times at the windmill I know this experience was unusual and I would still go back. I also received money off at the end so hate to leave a bad review. However the service was shocking this trip and the food wasn't up to its usual standard. It was Mothering Sunday and they were very busy but even taking that into account wouldn't make it acceptable. We all had the lamb roast and the cut of meat meant only 1 of the party of 5 were able to eat it (two meals were taken off plus service). Ordered drinks never showed up, basic questions about the food were met with a response of "I don't know" and it took pushing to get a response of "ok I will find out" only to never actually get an answer. Wrong orders were delivered etc Even though they were very busy, the head waitress (im guessing) in our area (the conservatory) spent our entire meal standing In the corner not helping out if she could get away with it and chatting to staff which I personally found infuriating whilst our empty plates sat in front of us. At no point were we asked how our meal was, we had to chase to even be given a desert menu etc. There is more but you get the gist. In the end I went to the main area and spoke to someone else who send over a lovely chap who was a manager in training who was very apologietic and took money off. It was sad as the 4 people I took had not eaten there before and it definitely spoilt the day. visited The Windmill Clapham on 26 Mar 2017

It is utterly pointless reserving a table. We had to stand in a que to 'Book' in as it was busy. The table was reserved at 4pm to avoid the lunch time rush, we were not seated until 4.15pm, as the table was not ready. The table was not suitable for two elderly diners, it was a small round table in a corner with armchairs, when you sat in them the table was high and there was no back support. We asked the our server if we could move, she went away and checked, we were informed that this was not possible but she would look for two suitable chairs, however she informed us that there were none available. This experience ruined my Mother's day meal. I had explained to the lady who took my booking that my mother had been unwell. I would not consider returning to this establishment as they are unable to cope during busy periods visited The Windmill Clapham on 26 Mar 2017

Had a good time but food and service could have been better. Portions were large.Roast pork cut too thick and the tempura vegetables chosen by the vegan person on the party were overcooked and greasy not the light tempura she wish for. Restaurant very busy. Waitress pleasant but felt 'industrious' We had to ask for sauces for the roast and not enquiries were made as to how was the food, not why the vegetable dish was left mostly uneaten. visited The Windmill Clapham on 19 Mar 2017

This was our first visit to The Windmill. Great location and the pub felt warm and inviting as soon as you stepped inside. Staff were very accommodating and informative. Spend the best part of two and a half hours at the pub having a few drinks and a fine selection of the lunch menu items. We had some how decided to make this lunch a three course meal. Baked camembert was lovely and gooey and the special of the day Pork escalope had me filling my boots. Some how we even managed a Sticky Toffee Pudding for desert. I did share this one with the wife mind you as it was big enough to share. All and all a lovely afternoon and even though we didn't have a dog of our own to bring to the pup friendly venue we equally enjoyed sharing the other guests pets to the delight of our two kids. We will most certainly be back. visited The Windmill Clapham on 04 Mar 2017

What a great find! We were visiting our kids who have now moved to Clapham and so needed to find a local hotel. We booked direct at a very reasonable rate for 2 nights and had the good fortune to be upgraded to room 43 which is just so lovely. Really quirky with a huge bed, seating area, coffee machine and gorgeous bathroom. Despite being above a very busy buzzy pub and restaurant (both of which we used and enjoyed) the room was quiet and we slept like logs. Breakfast is good and varied. The staff are really friendly and we liked that they're casually dressed as it adds to a relaxed atmosphere. The hotel is directly on Clapham Common which is lovely and Clapham itself is a great place to visit. All in all a lovely weekend. Highly recommended visited The Windmill Clapham on 03 Mar 2017

The service and venue was lovely. My family and I all had Sunday roasts however, unfortunately the cuts of meat were not great (chewy and fatty). Not what you would expect for a £17 roast. The service was excellent however the food let it down. The children's meals arrives piping hot and my daughter had the fish and chips which was very greasy. Then the adult meals arrived and the fries were quite cold. Two of the party had the vension burgers which were overcooked - they were offered replacements but by this time had already finished the meals. Lovely atmosphere but think the food let the place down. visited The Windmill Clapham on 21 Jan 2017

The room was nice and cosy, friendly staff and nice breakfast, However I was assigned a room for disabled guests with a bathroom door that wouldn't lock or even close (very inconvenient for two people sharing a room), no lid on the toilet seat which is not very hygienic and in general not what I had expected from the bathroom when I booked, it looked different in the photos and I wasn't informed of this. visited The Windmill Clapham on 21 Jan 2017

The atmosphere was good. The staff friendly but the food was not great. It was NYE so the restaurant was full but we were all a little disappointed with the meal. The steaks were all badly cooked - even when returned to the kitchen and represented. The fondant puddings lacked any fondant - and that was the same for all 10 of us that had them. Having said that we did have a good time overall and like the venue so would recommend. Just not on NYE! visited The Windmill Clapham on 31 Dec 2016
