Here at The Windmill we offer not only a friendly local pub and restaurant but a stylish 42 bedroom boutique hotel. Our friendly service and seasonal food ensure you’ll have a great time, whether it’s drinks with friends, dinner with the family or a leisurely weekend in London.

Our resident pub dog Max is always here to welcome you and your dogs who are also welcome in the pub! The Windmill is located on Clapham Common which provides around 200 acres of beautiful green space. We are less than half a mile from Clapham South Station so it couldn't be easier to get to, or from West End/City or Surrey.

We needed to make a last minute change to our arranged lunch and Katie dealt with it competently and in a reassuring manner for which we were extremely grateful. A taxi was required for our speaker who needef to get to the House of Lords and the Windmill dealt with that, also, making it a very successful occasion. Well done. Poor service - asked for fries instead of potatoes, potatoes came out. Asked for no lemon in coke, coke came with lemon. Asked for mayo, no mayo ever came. Fish and chips came with no vinegar brought out so I went in to get it myself. No one asked how the meal was whilst we’re eating and if there was anything they could help with. I'm sorry if you felt frustrated that you weren't able to spend longer on the table however we allow two hours for each booking in our dining room which is outlined in our booking policy and on the confirmation email you would have received. We do have tables in our Dome Dining room next door available on a first come first served basis where it's more relaxed and informal and you can order the same menu at the bar. As a traditional British pub we do serve the pub classics and we do have some vegetarian and vegan salads on the menu to try and balance it out. We do have 13 beers on tap, with an additional 10 in our fridges, a mix of premium lagers and craft beers. Really comfy room, slept so well and woke to birdsong! Great staff throughout and would happily recommend. However, no signal on tv and could not fathom how the radio worked. Could have phoned for assistance but didn’t. Food OK but just not hot enough! I will return as our son has purchased his first home not tooo far away. Visited The Windmill Clapham on 2018-05-02

Staff were helpful in finding us a suitable table. However, we did have to ask for two extra wine glasses four times before we got them. Most people on our table had roast dinners and they found that the food was tasty and that there was plenty of it. I had the roast beef which was served rare. I do not mind rare meat but I found that the beef was cut in very thick slices which made it very chewy and hard going. The puddings were good and came in generous helpings. We were extremely disappointed service was the worst i have ever experienced it was as if the staff really didnt want to be there.Food nothing like how advertised and we were not asked how we it cooked.on return from kitchen they put on a different meat.Mens toilet was under water.They also sold home made sausages on bar counter without a cover them we witnessed a number of people handle them without buying one.Management needs looking into group of 4 very disappointed. Hello Thank you for taking the time to review and I’m sorry you left disappointed on your visit to us. As you haven't specified which dishes you ordered I’m unable to look into the menu description and where you felt the dish differs but we haven’t had this feedback previously. With regards to the meat temperature, if you ordered a roast the roast beef it is served rare unless specified otherwise which the waitress makes guests aware of when ordering. I'm not sure what you mean by the meals were returned with different meat as you should have received the dish you ordered. Did you make the team aware at the time? We were made aware of a slow fresh water leak in the men’s bathroom on Sunday Morning which needed to be fixed by an engineer who attended and resolved the issue at midday which is when lunch service starts. In all the years we’ve been selling sausage rolls on our bar we’ve never seen someone pick one up and put it back down again. If you made us aware of this at the time, we would of course have dispose of them and replace them with freshly cooked ones. If you are ever dissatisfied with your visit you should always let us know at the time so we can put it right for you as we never want guests to leave feeling unhappy with the service they’ve received. I really liked that the outside dining area was non smoking and staff told some clients off when they tried to smoke and pointed the area for that. Nowadays it's unfair that non smoker cannot enjoy fresh air without getting all the smoke. The fish and chips seems overcooked in the outside but they were once and tender inside. I'm sorry to hear that drinks weren't brought over to you. There is full table service in this area so this shouldnt be the case. It may have been just how busy we were on the day. Unfortunately, it was a really poor evening at the Windmill. Amazing location, but the service in the restaurant was dreadful. Took forever to get service and the majority of the time we were simply ignored. The bill was then wrong at the end. Great pub, not sure about the restaurant for the price that is paid. I really like this pub. Unfortunately on this occasion and in the restaurant area the experience wasn't as good as usual. Some of the food was poor (e.g. the burger). The service was also irritatingly slow, particularly when we first arrived. I got the impression there were some staffing/organisation issues in the restaurant area that night. The Hotel rooms were excellent, very clean and great value. The pub staff were great, a real asset. All our meals were very good with the exception of the steak on our second night, which was undercooked and of poor quality - I would not order it again - we were also served our main courses at the same time as our starters which meant we had to send them back. I am not sure that the mains were recooked and just kept warm; perhaps not warm enough. We would definitely stay again, but be more critical of the food in future. Lovely atmosphere and decor but we waited 30 minutes for our starter of bread with oil and then a further 40 minutes for our roast dinners. 1 of the roasts was missing the vegetables, parts of the meal were cold and the meat was chewy. I was delighted that even during the very busy televising of the Six Nations, our table was ready on time, the staff were friendly and helpful. Hi there, We had a cracking Sunday lunch this Sunday just gone (mothers day). Food was very good but what really stood out was that - despite it being very busy - the staff were absolutely fantastic. We had two waiters help us and they were both brilliant, super helpful, very friendly with the kids and actually gave the impression that they really enjoyed working at the Windmill. Pros: Very well cooked food, baked Camembert to start was delicious, roast was very nice. Staff very friendly and helpful. Cons: Had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated which was understanable as it was fairly busy. Didn’t have lamb roast on the menu which I was looking forward to. Room was a bit hot? We stayed for one night with our 8 year old son. The rooms are lovely. We’d booked a double but found it a bit small for 3 of us. The reception couldn’t have been more helpful and offered us a larger room for the same price we’d booked which was very kind. Great atmosphere in the busy pub but no noise once we’d headed upstairs. Max the pub dog was a big hit with my son and breakfast was great. We’d definitely stay here again but would book a larger room if travelling as a three. Visited The Windmill Clapham on 2018-03-03

Overpriced for quality of food you get. 3 burgers, three pints and desserts came to £80 - which we wouldn't have minded had we enjoyed a remarkable meal. Average burgers, nothing to write home about, and worst thing about it was the cold bun. It was as though the bun had just been taken out of the fridge - they didn't even bother to toast or warm it up. Told the waitress but she didn't really care. Also, while on that topic, lots of staff about when you didn't need them, and had to go and wait at the bar to order desserts only to be told to wait a bit longer as they didn't know what was available. The burger buns are actually kept in the main kitchen, however with the cold weather we've had, this is how cold our kitchen currently is and appreciate your valid feedback about them being warmed through before service. I'm sorry the team was unsure on the puddings, we have just had a whole new menu launch and all the team were trained on the new dishes and wines. Really nice venue and atmosphere and some staff tried to make up for their mistakes, but altogether the service was appalling. My main course came out with everybody else's starters and so we asked for it to be returned to the kitchen, once everybody's starter was finished and main course was ready! However, the staff then proceeded to serve everybody's main and clearly forgot about mine - a waitress even snapped at us for asking where my food was because people had been waiting to start their mains for 20 minutes and mine still had not arrived. The place is nice and our starter was nice (baked camembert) however I think it's more a place to have a few drinks rather than a meal. After ordering, we expected a healthy meal with vegetables and sweet potatoes and ended up with a plate full of deep fried vegetables. Very oily and not that tasty. Same for the burger. The Windmill in Clapham Common it has always been my favourite local pub/venue, however on this last visit I've found the venue a bit rundown and not really looked after, this makes me very SAD because as a wedding photographer I always recommended this venue, but now I'm not too sure we'll do it again. Staff is very friendly and I absolutely love the location, but please please please make sure to look after it properly, also the state of the toilets it wasn't really good! No better way to see in the new year than a two night stay at The Windmill. Hotel Manager and staff very accomomdating, live entertainment and ambience fabulous - highly recommend. We held a 39th birthday party in The Blue Room. From our first enquiry we received efficient, thoughtful and patient care from all involved. Ben, the manager was most helpful as were his staff both leading up to the party and during it. They were very kind in making a tasty vegan option for a couple of our guests. We had our office Christmas party here at the end of December, for a total of 37 of us (including a large number of wheelchair users). The space we were given was perfect for what we needed, with easy access to the toilets and space to move around. The staff were extremely accommodating, really friendly and the food was great for a reasonable price. All in all everyone had a fantastic evening, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. We reserved the blue room and it was excellent! The food was great, the service was great too. Our server, Denise, was helpful and patient with the large group. To be honest, it wasn't great. I haven't been for a while but the food was decidedly average and over priced. £2 each for 1. A small pot of baked beans, 2. Two mushrooms and 3. One hash brown is ridiculous. The waiting staff got our order wrong so my mother eat her main after my wife, children and I had finished ours. But the most disappointing was that the waiting staff were miserable and that the customer service was poor. Not one smile or happy banter from anyone. It was my mothers 75th birthday which made it all the more disappointing and not even the candle on the cake could rescue a decidedly below par experience. As local residents to the windmill we often visit with nothing to worry about. Service, food and environment are why we are regulars. Unfortunately, this time, things were terrible! Service was incredibly slow, rude and unfriendly. Asking the waitress for anything seemed to be an inconvenience to her. Our main course took 1 hour and 10 minutes to arrive and mine was cold when it eventually did. Condiments that were requested never arrived. Nobody asked how things were at any point that we were there. The fire went out when we sat down and wasn’t lit until after we left. If we hadn’t been in a rush to leave and didn’t want to spoil a family occasion then I would have said something to the manager at the time. Paying £200+ for a festive lunch to receive such terrible service and quality at a popular pub was incredibly disappointing and overpriced. It has unfortunately put us and our family off returning. Very good. The food was plentiful and for mass catering was good quality. My only criticism is that the pudding (a tart) was smaller than I would have liked and the wine was cleared off the table little too quickly before we had finished - but that is being picky on my part. We had a reservation booked a month ahead for Christmas dinner, but the people before us went quite a bit over their reservation and no other tables were offered to our group. So we ended up eating in the bar area where we were waiting. Always a great place to eat just a little disappointed how many unruly children there were running around and screaming. I blame the parents who clearly don’t give a damn. It was the evening of Christmas Eve so don’t expect this. We asked to move out from the formal dining area to escape which they were very happy to help. Poor service, the waitresses were rude, not welcoming, and not very gentle with the food and drinks (I got food poured over my shirt). And the food was not even very good. It's been a while we noticed that the quality of food and service has decreased at the Windmill, but this time it really is the last time for us at this restaurant. Service slow, we had to constantly flag someone down to get drinks as nobody ever came to the table to ask if we were OK and considering we were such a large group, I am surprised as we would have drank more. We ended up leaving early and going somewhere else to drink. Barman very rude, one in particular. Didn't get his name sorry. Food was OK .. starters were a bit weird, but mains were OK. It's a lovely pub and we had a nice table tucked away at the back so had privacy but meant that we didn't get any service. We had to go up and ask every time we wanted more drinks and waited an hour for the starters to come even though we'd pre ordered. The steak and chips was great but only 3/6 of our puddings came and had to wait 30 mins for the others as they had forgotten them. I have been to the Windmill lots of times and usually love it however my friend and i’s experience on Tuesday night was very poor. It took us 15 minuites to be given a menue when we sat down and another 20 for our drinks to arrive. The Windmill in Clapham is the perfect venue for a Christmas do. The booking system allowed everyone to pay their own deposits and choose from the menu. The food was lovely and enjoyed all three courses and was impressed by the gluten free dessert option too . Great service and relaxed atmosphere and everyone enjoyed themselves. Felt a little bad for the staff as so busy with numerous parties, but they were really helpful and it was great not to be rushed at all. Disappointed. It was Sunday Lunchtime. We were shown to the darkest table in a corner. Food was one vegetarian but roast and one lamb roast. Vegetable selection disappointing. Nut roast nothing to write home about. Decided not to bother with desert so spent a long time indicating we would like a bill. Waiter did not know we wanted bill But just did not see us. The pub is perfectly situated on Clapham Common and was lovely and cosy with dogs and fires. The staff were fantastic - very helpful and attentive but laid back and friendly. We were in a group of 11 for the 3 course Christmas menu and everyone really enjoyed their food - which was all hot and well presented when it came out of the kitchen. The restaurant area of the pub is bright and spacious yet comfortable and I would return for another occasion, either to eat or enjoy a few ales in the bar area. I have been to the Windmill several times and chose to come on a Sunday for a farewell lunch with a family member. At first it was a bit daunting walking into an extremely busy pub with a bit of a disorganised queue for the restaurant. We had to wait about 15 minutes to just ask about our reservation. That said once we were sat down in a very spacey part of the dining room, the experience was faultless. Service was great, the roasts were very good, even the vegetarian option. It was a shame the roast potatoes weren't the same but I don't think there is such a thing as veggie goose fat. Desert was superb and all in all it was great value for money. We were sort of prompted to leave because our two-hour time was up, which was OK because we had just about finished. Will definitely go back, the food is amazing! Booked for 4pax but we only were 2pax. We ve been niclely showed a table for 2. The restaurant looked very nice and well decorated. The tables are cleaned. The table was in the side of the room and the wall was made fom wodden panel. It was very weird as it was a very strong echo every Time we talk with my friend.we had to move away from the wall to speak. The waitress was quite new and didnt know the drinks menu and had to go to the bar to check the type of beer they had. When ordered she came back and told me thst the beer i order wasn't available. The food arrived in a very large white plate. It looked ok. The poached egfs were soft but not very hot. The pulled pork tasted fine but the sauce which was mix with it had a very strange taste. The toasted muffin was a bit soggy but ok the spinach were ok but not very hot Either . The Place was very busy and they were a lot of familly and kids arround. It was nice atmosphere. Chose this as it was a dog friendly place. Arrived and it was completely packed with Rugby fans - no warning that the match was being shown. It was unbearably loud. The restaurant area was empty but we were told there were no dogs allowed there. Visited The Windmill Clapham on 2017-11-18

We advertise these matches on our website, chalk boards inside and outside the pubs as well as on all of our social media platforms to try and ensure guests are aware the games are on. I'm sorry if you missed these. We are a very dog friendly pub and even have our very own pub dog Max. Dogs are allowed in all areas of the pub except the restaurant areas as we also appreciate that some guests like to be able to dine without pets being around. Even Max isnt allowed in this area of the pub. Positive - I got the time wrong so I turned up at 1 for a 12pm booking and I was still seated as there were tables available. Negative - the service was terrible, our orders had to be repeated and the food was awful. I had a stomach upset later from the veggie fry up. Will not be going back. Beautiful setting and layout of the bars and restaurants, but there were 3 TV's showing the rugby and this created a very disruptive dining environment. The food was also very disappointing (I specifically asked whether the chicken burger was a plain breast or fried - I was told it was a plain breast, and was presented with a dry and deep fried piece of chicken). The other fillings were extremely disappointing and presentation was very poor. I had been to the pub on the night before for some drinks with friends and was very pleasantly surprised, so my family dinner on the Saturday night came as a huge disappointment. My wife and I stayed for one night bed & breakfast and also for an evening meal as it was our anniversary ... in summary it was a great stay ... relaxed but special at the same time ... we did have to wait a long time for the evening meal as they were busy but the wait was worth the while and in a very atmospheric dining room ... the location was great and the common itself is lovely ... would definitely stay again ! Much better than expected. I haven't been to the windmill for a couple of years and they have upped their menu significantly. Our meals were great. I was a little nervous as some recent reviews were hardly complimentary - however, we have been here a couple of times before and had great food. So I took the chance and booked it. The food and service was great. Portions are a little too generous which can frighten the elderly with small appetites but tasty and well presented. We had another excellent visit to the Windmill. We had lovely rooms overlooking the Common. We also had an early dinner with four very young children and were very well looked after in the dining room. We had very good food for dinner and breakfast the next morning. Absolutely fabulous brunch! Service was fabulous and very accommodating for mothers with babies. Felt very at ease with staff who were friendly and helpful and menu was very enticing and fantastic value for money. Can recommend the croque madame! Visited The Windmill Clapham on 2017-09-15

The evening was very good we went for my sons birthday l have dietary problems and the waitress we had was so helpful and said there were no problems with what l wanted it was very delicious thank you so much for this Visited The Windmill Clapham on 2017-09-12

Really enjoyed our stay at the Windmill on 1st and 2nd of September. The disabled room adjacent to ours where my mother-in-law stayed was excellent. We all very much appreciated our family and friends evening meal together in the Blue Room on Friday night. A good chance for both families to get together before our children's wedding. The food was cold, it felt like the vegetables were microwaved - some of the vegetables were hard and didn't feel quite cooked. - the meat was okay and the service really good but I feel the food could do with a vast improvement. I was so disappointed because I felt the roast was really good last time I was here but now I'm not sure I'll be coming again Visited The Windmill Clapham on 2017-09-03
