The hotel is lovely and in a delightful location on Clapham Common - our room had a nice view out on to the common, hotel reception staff were very pleasant and welcoming. (Please note the 2 stars is for restaurant experience not hotel) We dined in the hotel restaurant in the evening which went from bad to worse. The waiting staff were distracted and very casual which we ignored for the most part as it was an occasion to be with family that we did not want to spoil. However the last straw was, after being ignored for at least 15-20mins we asked for the sweet menu and were told by our flippant waitress that 'the kitchen's closed sweetheart'! The Windmill advertises having the table for a 2 hours slot and you would presume within that time you would have the courtesy of being offered a starter, main and sweet (even a coffee would have been nice). When you complain we were pointed at, talked about and generally made to feel uncomfortable by team members as we had a drink in the bar. The next morning we made a point of talking to Ben Evans, General Manager who was seemingly not interested and continued to read emails as we talked to him - when we went to pay our bill his way of dealing with it was to refund the cost of our meal, very generous but not what we were aiming for when we complained. Hopefully the staff in question were offered further training in 'level of service' - believe it or not, not all of us are complaining to get money off! We would stay at the hotel again but would never dine in their restaurant. visited The Windmill Clapham on 19 May 2017

Service left a litte to be desired and it could be better value for money but portions were large. I think they need to redefine their idea of a pie though as i was little disappointed that the one i had only had a pasrty top...not really a pie in my book...having said that pub was busy and in good location. visited The Windmill Clapham on 21 May 2017

A return visit to the Windmill for Sunday lunch with friends (and babies) after not having visited for almost a year. Still has great atmosphere however we were made to feel rushed into ordering each course, and the food (various roasts) when it arrived was overpriced for what we received (quality and quantity). Sadly because of this we're unlikely to visit again. visited The Windmill Clapham on 14 May 2017

The manager Lianne was excellent in helping me set up my bday party. I was able to bring my own cake and leave it with them the day prior which really helped not to worry about it on the day. Monique was also excellent, and the two lovely ladies that brought the cake were so sweet singing "happy bday" :-) The food was excellent and temperature and ambience was lovely. Went few weeks ago & had a lovely Sunday roast , so decided to go back for a family birthday lunch on Shnday. Setting is beautiful inside & out & my dad, who used to go there years ago, was so happy they still do Youngs beer and it tasted the same ✅....Food was a huge disappointment though! Couldn't get s knife through the beef & Yorkshire puddings were 'tough' aswell !!! On a positive , they did replace the meals & included a slight discount on the whole bill ...but can't help feel slightly disappointed especially as it was a birthday celebration !... visited The Windmill Clapham on 07 May 2017

Definitely need to book on a warm day as the pub was packed. Good service throughout until we had finished our main, they took the plates away then nobody came back for 25 minutes. Ended up having to get a different waitress to get the bill, didn't offer desserts. Lovely well presented food, would go again. Lauren visited The Windmill Clapham on 07 May 2017

Waiters were very nice and patient for such a large group. The food was very nice, however, the plates themselves were not heated beforehand and as a result some of the food got cold very quickly : chips. The Chips also arrived with little warmth but was to be expected as there were 14 of us, (a warm plate would have avoided that). All in All we all had a great time and I was really happy with how much room we had even though the table was meant for 12 we could have easily fitted 4-6 more people and remained comfortable. visited The Windmill Clapham on 01 May 2017

We were a bit early for our reservation, the catering staff were very unwelcoming to us as we arrived early. The put their hand up and told us to go to the bar until our table reservation time - I feel this could have been done in a more polite way and they could have offered to come get us once they were ready so we then didn't have to wait in a queue to go to our table. Once we were seated I ordered the Haddock fishcake option which was one of the pricier options, when it turned up the portion was about half the size of my fist which meant I finished my meal still hungry, waiting for the rest of my family to finish. Although it was tasty I don't feel the size or taste was worth the price. Overall it was a really disappointing experience, I have only been once before and thought the food was good but after this time I don't think I will be coming again. visited The Windmill Clapham on 09 Apr 2017

I really love this pub, the interior is gorgeous and the outside space is perfect but we went here on friday night for dinner and got sat in the darkest corner of the whole pub. When we asked to move we were told we couldn't although for the entire 90 minutes of our meal/stay the pub dining room remained half empty so we definitely could have moved to a lighter and brighter table... The food is good but over priced for what it was. Our bill was nearly £70 and we only had 1 drink each. The service though is what lets down this place so much. The waitress really didn't have a clue about anything we asked and was so slow and never checked in on us. I saw other tables around us trying to flag staff down for ages. A disappointing visit not worth the money in my opinion which is a shame as I live so close would love to come here more often. visited The Windmill Clapham on 07 Apr 2017

Having eaten a few times at the windmill I know this experience was unusual and I would still go back. I also received money off at the end so hate to leave a bad review. However the service was shocking this trip and the food wasn't up to its usual standard. It was Mothering Sunday and they were very busy but even taking that into account wouldn't make it acceptable. We all had the lamb roast and the cut of meat meant only 1 of the party of 5 were able to eat it (two meals were taken off plus service). Ordered drinks never showed up, basic questions about the food were met with a response of "I don't know" and it took pushing to get a response of "ok I will find out" only to never actually get an answer. Wrong orders were delivered etc Even though they were very busy, the head waitress (im guessing) in our area (the conservatory) spent our entire meal standing In the corner not helping out if she could get away with it and chatting to staff which I personally found infuriating whilst our empty plates sat in front of us. At no point were we asked how our meal was, we had to chase to even be given a desert menu etc. There is more but you get the gist. In the end I went to the main area and spoke to someone else who send over a lovely chap who was a manager in training who was very apologietic and took money off. It was sad as the 4 people I took had not eaten there before and it definitely spoilt the day. visited The Windmill Clapham on 26 Mar 2017

It is utterly pointless reserving a table. We had to stand in a que to 'Book' in as it was busy. The table was reserved at 4pm to avoid the lunch time rush, we were not seated until 4.15pm, as the table was not ready. The table was not suitable for two elderly diners, it was a small round table in a corner with armchairs, when you sat in them the table was high and there was no back support. We asked the our server if we could move, she went away and checked, we were informed that this was not possible but she would look for two suitable chairs, however she informed us that there were none available. This experience ruined my Mother's day meal. I had explained to the lady who took my booking that my mother had been unwell. I would not consider returning to this establishment as they are unable to cope during busy periods visited The Windmill Clapham on 26 Mar 2017

This was our first visit to The Windmill. Great location and the pub felt warm and inviting as soon as you stepped inside. Staff were very accommodating and informative. Spend the best part of two and a half hours at the pub having a few drinks and a fine selection of the lunch menu items. We had some how decided to make this lunch a three course meal. Baked camembert was lovely and gooey and the special of the day Pork escalope had me filling my boots. Some how we even managed a Sticky Toffee Pudding for desert. I did share this one with the wife mind you as it was big enough to share. All and all a lovely afternoon and even though we didn't have a dog of our own to bring to the pup friendly venue we equally enjoyed sharing the other guests pets to the delight of our two kids. We will most certainly be back. visited The Windmill Clapham on 04 Mar 2017

What a great find! We were visiting our kids who have now moved to Clapham and so needed to find a local hotel. We booked direct at a very reasonable rate for 2 nights and had the good fortune to be upgraded to room 43 which is just so lovely. Really quirky with a huge bed, seating area, coffee machine and gorgeous bathroom. Despite being above a very busy buzzy pub and restaurant (both of which we used and enjoyed) the room was quiet and we slept like logs. Breakfast is good and varied. The staff are really friendly and we liked that they're casually dressed as it adds to a relaxed atmosphere. The hotel is directly on Clapham Common which is lovely and Clapham itself is a great place to visit. All in all a lovely weekend. Highly recommended visited The Windmill Clapham on 03 Mar 2017

The room was nice and cosy, friendly staff and nice breakfast, However I was assigned a room for disabled guests with a bathroom door that wouldn't lock or even close (very inconvenient for two people sharing a room), no lid on the toilet seat which is not very hygienic and in general not what I had expected from the bathroom when I booked, it looked different in the photos and I wasn't informed of this. visited The Windmill Clapham on 21 Jan 2017

Went for a Sunday roast with friends, it was amazing. Super delicious food (from an Italian point of view) and portions are huge. Must try the Forrest fruit crumble with vanilla custard... it's like heaven!!! I'll recommend it for sure :) visited The Windmill Clapham on 08 Jan 2017

Lovely venue. We went with our 5 and 2 year old (!). The staff were lovely but the beef on the Sunday roast was quite tough. As we have kids it would be nice if they had a play area for them but that may scare non parents away. :-) visited The Windmill Clapham on 01 Jan 2017

The atmosphere was good. The staff friendly but the food was not great. It was NYE so the restaurant was full but we were all a little disappointed with the meal. The steaks were all badly cooked - even when returned to the kitchen and represented. The fondant puddings lacked any fondant - and that was the same for all 10 of us that had them. Having said that we did have a good time overall and like the venue so would recommend. Just not on NYE! visited The Windmill Clapham on 31 Dec 2016

I had my first visit to The Windmill for a New Years Eve lunch. The pub really is a beautiful place but the staff and variety on the menu let it down. The staff were unfriendly and not helpful and the menu choice was burger, burger. fish and chips or burger. A bit of variety would have been nice! visited The Windmill Clapham on 31 Dec 2016

Good food, plenty of it and a nice atmosphere for Christmas Day lunch. Next year I would probably prefer to be in the conservatory as the "oldies" found the blue room a little noisy and claustrophobic when it was full. visited The Windmill Clapham on 25 Dec 2016

We had booked the Windmill for our annual Christmas dinner event and were all really looking forward to it. Up till arrival we were all very happy with the services, however, throughout our dinner we had seen 3 mice openly running around on the restaurant floor. As iam sure you are aware, this was very discomforting and makes the whole feeling about enjoying completely different; most of the night half of us spent looking around to see if the mice were running around near us. This also deeply questioned the hygiene element. Whilst we understand the restaurant and staff are aware of this, it was not very clear to us, and upon notifying one of the waitresses, we were given a lot of attitude and treated as if it was insignificant. Had we known there were mice running on the actual restaurant floor, we definitely would not have chosen this place for our Christmas dinner. We are very unsatisfied with our experience and would like to discuss compensation/partial refund for the lack of understanding and disruption during what was supposed to be an enjoyable event. Before we publically review windmill, I wanted to give you a chance to respond privately. visited The Windmill Clapham on 08 Dec 2016

Lovely food and setting but some of the staff were rude and harrassed us throughout the meal because some of our party were unavoidably late. We were well aware on booking that we only had the table for 2 hours but were reminded of this several more times in quite a hostile manner and made to feel judged and unwelcome. All of our party had every intention of, and did, finish our lunch in the allotted 2 hours, and it was not this rule but the attitude of the staff which left a sour taste for us. The food was good and the restaurant area is very cost and with a great atmosphere but the waiting staff were totally uninterested in helping us whatsoever - our waitress left our table halfway through our drinks order twice! They threw the food down to us, never checked back to see if it was okay - we had to hunt them down for extra gravy and horseradish sauce, and began clearing the food before most of us had finished - all of which contributed to us feeling like we were a burden on them and not paying customers. Very rude. My parents who were visiting me in London noticed the bad service and told me they wouldn't come here again, which I was very disappointed in as I have always rated The Windmill very highly. visited The Windmill Clapham on 13 Nov 2016

My meal was okay (lamb roast dinner). However my friends meals were dry (beef and pork) and took 15mins for sauces to arrive. Extra meat brought out with sauces by this time was too late and we were charged for these even though we did not request the extra meat.
