Description
The Kerfield Arms is the rare thing: a neighbourhood pub that retains its easygoing soul while quietly setting the bar for how seriously good modern pub dining can be. Set on a handsome corner in Camberwell, this revived Victorian boozer has become one of south London’s most compelling tables, drawing locals and destination diners in equal measure.
Run by Adam Symonds and Rob Tecwyn, the duo behind Islington favourite The Baring, The Kerfield Arms reopened in 2025 under its original name following a thoughtful restoration. The interiors strike that elusive balance between familiarity and finesse: pale, light‑filled rooms, wood‑heavy finishes and understated detailing give the space a calm confidence, while the generous bar area still feels resolutely pub‑first. There’s a clear sense that drinkers are as welcome as diners, with plenty of room to drop in for a pint as there is to settle in for lunch or supper.
In the kitchen, head chef Jay Styler delivers cooking that is ingredient‑led, unfussy and deeply satisfying. The menu is rooted in British produce, with seasonal dishes that favour clarity over complexity. Expect generous plates that feel comforting rather than showy, the sort of food designed to be eaten often, alongside a standout Sunday roast that has quickly become a local institution. It’s this combination of restraint, flavour and consistency that saw The Kerfield Arms awarded a Michelin star in 2026, cementing its reputation as one of London’s most accomplished gastropubs.
Drinks are treated with equal care. The wine list leans towards small producers and classic regions, with enough interest for enthusiasts while remaining accessible, and the beer offering spans well‑kept cask, craft kegs and a reliable house lager. A concise cocktail list rounds things out without tipping the balance away from the pub’s core identity.
