Technicolour Steam Train are back and ready to tear up the Effra stage!
Technicolour Steam Train, also known as TST, are a ska-fusion band who burst into the South West in 2022 with an array of soul-funk grooves, 2-tone roots and a hiphop multi-genre frontman Charlie Mulford as its conductor. As a nine piece, TST has an explosion of colour to offer making the point of being “seriously unserious” and are full steam ahead to continue the chaos.
It’s Madness meets notorious B.I.G, we want to bring ska to a new generation in a new light and have the best time in doing so. Having met at university, we have members from Cornwall to South London which naturally fuse an unlikely set of characters together to create what is Technicolour Steam Train. Join Charlie Mulford as he brings you into his world of freestyle that cuts to your core with a big band energy to back him.
For fans of The Specials, Nile Rodgers and Imperial Leisure
Supported by Rookie Numbers - Rookie Numbers are a high-octane, 7-piece collective paving the way for a fourth generation of ska - 'ska-rave'. The band keeps the bravado pumping, their antics on stage a clear show of their youthfulness. Their originals are pumped full of energy, with influences from classic two-tone, as well as jungle, dub, and DnB, ensuring that Rookie Numbers will put on a show more intense than a nuclear power plant, something that people won't forget in a hurry.
Forming in late 2022, Rookie Numbers have been working their way up in the industry, performing at endless venues - their second gig taking place at Belgrave Music Hall, Leeds, followed swiftly by plenty more across the country. The band have played The Leadmill, Sheffield, The Brudenell, Leeds, and The Athena, Leicester.
The band hit their biggest milestone to date in April 2025, supporting ska titans 'Bad Manners' at The Athena, Leicester, lined up to support 'Madness' in November 2025.
