Description

The Grove has been around since circa 1877 and is a beautiful building hidden away in the residential streets of Balham.

Steeped in Victorian charm, The Grove boasts a decadent interior to reflect the period of the building so you can sink into leather chesterfield sofas and a contemporary take on classically rustic stylings. Fronting a traditonal gastropub atmosphere, The Grove hosts everyone from local punters to those looking for some lovely nosh and an ambient welcome. Hidden within, you'll find the Cox bar: a treasure trove of custom concoctions from rums to tequilas and craft beer filled copper tanks. Lounge to your hearts content with a tailored tipple or expert selection of wine.

Tuck into a hearty Sunday Roast or something from their seasonal menu of traditional British gastro classics like Fish & Chips, Prime Burger or their Wild Boar & Sage Sausages with Mash.

Food was tasty, service was slow and we were waiting almost an hour for main course Visited The Grove on 2018-01-07

The food was great but the service really bad and incredibly slow in both the restaurant and the bar. A real shame as a great pub and the food great (when it eventually came!) but service really let it down Visited The Grove on 2018-01-07

Good food but very poor service. I dined here on New Years Day where the staff and manager all looked hungover and made our lives hard as customers. It was clearly understaffed having to wait to order a drink as only two bar men were covering the whole area. The food was lovely but I asked for sauce with my food and was told to 'wait a minute' and it obviously didn't arrive. I would rather walk the extra 15 minutes to The Windmill, Clapham Common, which is also a Youngs Pub. This is a shame as the grove is my local. Visited The Grove on 2018-01-01

I booked a Christmas Day dinner with my boyfriend and we were very happy we chose The Grove. The staff were really friendly (as they always are there) and the food was delicious. The only disappointment was the mince pie at the end which I am pretty sure was a Mr. Kipling.I would not hesitate to go there again and would also spend another Christmas Day there. Thanks you for making it so good! Visited The Grove on 2017-12-25

Service was terrible which was such a shame since the pub itself is beautiful inside. We ordered mulled cider, a starter and roast. Our drinks and starter did not come. We asked about our mulled cider, one waiter said it will take a while as they are heating up some more, 30 minutes later our waiter disappears so we asked another guy and he said they had completely ran out. So we ordered desserts instead which never came. The pub was fully staffed but non of them were really looking after the dining section. I noticed a lot of other customers having to call for a member of staff. We decided to get up and pay because nobody was coming round. As we are paying we see a bartender serving up hot mulled cider to a customer at the bar.....which we enquired about. The staff is not organized and lack communication between them. Disappointing. Cute and warm pub! Fantastic service and very accommodating. We had a very large group of 30+ people all for food. The staff were great in communicating and organising an area for us as well making sure we all received our food quickly. Would definitely recommend this for dinner or just a cozy pint or 2. On the plus side, the pub is lovely and cosy, however the service from a couple of team members was not great. My husband waited 15 minutes for his drink, main courses were served without cutlery and my main was so salty (fish and chips) that I had to send it back. The pub has a quiz (which we were not aware of) on Sunday night that starts at 8pm, but they started testing the speakers system (very loudly!) about 7.30pm (whilst we were still having dinner with my elderly mum). The quiz master swore a few times when 'warming' the quiz crowd up, which was not appropriate. I'm not sure if we would go again. Visited The Grove on 2017-12-03

This is such a gorgeous pub but the service was so disappointing that I can't say I'll be back. It was my second time visiting and for the second time, I was left waiting over an hour for my food. After being promised three times that it would be with me within two minutes, it turned out (1.5 hours later) that the order had never been put through. Only when speaking to the fourth member of staff did I receive any sort of apology and by that time I cancelled my food order as couldn't bear to wait any more time. I did feel for the manager as it wasn't his fault (and he knocked some money off the bill) but can't help but feel frustrated that I didn't receive a proper meal and how rude most of the staff were along the way. Last year I had a similar experience, waiting about an hour as the food order hadn't been processed. I have never left a negative review before but really had to pass on my experience in the hope this service can be improved for the pub to reach its full potential. Visited The Grove on 2017-11-26

Food was good. Service poor. Having asked for bread on four occasions it still didn't arrive. They also forgot to bring out the children's meals...very disappointing. Visited The Grove on 2017-11-26

Great Sunday lunch with family. Good service. Food good, though the beef was a little too rare for my taste. Husbands salmon was very good. Friendly waiter. Visited The Grove on 2017-11-19

Lovely pub with really nice staff and a gr at atmosphere. Food is really good but quite expensive however it is worth it. They had a manned arts and craft table for the children. Such a fantastic idea and we will definitely be back because of it Visited The Grove on 2017-11-11

Visited between 5-7pm with my 5yr old son & my friend also with his son of same age. The boy's food came out first (this rarely happens anywhere else). All meals were delicious and well priced. Service was attentive. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The kid's were able to roam and were happily tolerated when paper airplanes fell behind the bar (my fault, I shouldn't have made them). This is now my pub of choice when in the area. Can't fault it. Visited The Grove on 2017-11-11

The Grove is lovely, but can be quite noisy if you sit in the dining area. I think this is due to the tiled floors and glass roof - we found it hard to hear each other because there were a couple of big parties dining around us. Desserts are interesting but we felt a bit small for the cost. Visited The Grove on 1970-01-01
