Food as always fantastic, however service was appalling. We had to ask for menus and someone to actually take an interest in our table. Not tentative to offer more drinks as and when our glasses were empty. Real shame as the food is so brilliant! visited The Narrow Boat on 25 Jun 2017

I'm baffled that I can only have a burger well done due to local borough regulations. I had a burger pretty rare in Islington in many pubs and restaurants. How do they manage? visited The Narrow Boat on 24 Jun 2017

Reply from The Narrow Boat

We apologise that you were not able to have your burger as preferred... As we cook our burgers with minced beef meat we have to adhere to food safety regulations, most burger places that offer different levels of burger cooking will use minced steak meat similar to steak where it is able to be cooked to preference. If you like something pretty rare feel free to try our 28 day aged Angus steak anyway you like.

Good was good when it arrived. BUT.. shambolic service. Left arm did not know what right arm.was doing. In a very peak busy period do not put new staff (very sweet and nice) who do not speak any English on waitressing duty. Our order was.completely ballsed up.. Drink ordered not arrived, had to ask three times. My moan course did.nt arrive.along with the others and then clear that the restaurant had forgotten my order. No offer to reduce bill and it was too hot to complain directly to manager. It would have taken probably 30 minutes to see someone anyway. I've been a waitress in many busy restaurants. We spent £150 for four people. Get your flow on!!! Won't eat there again . Drinks yes which I will purchase direct from.bar. visited The Narrow Boat on 18 Jun 2017

Wonderful location and venue for a sunny afternoon. Food was sub-par and found the waitresses very rude. The staff accidentally brought out something incorrectly to my table of 10 (we were all sharing) and then retrospectively tried to charge us for food we hadn't ordered. Caused a scene and definitely detracted from the evening. visited The Narrow Boat on 16 Jun 2017

Food for most of party was fine but on the expensive side. One main was quite unpleasant but we complained at the time and it was swiftly removed from the bill. Bar one member of staff the service was poor. Some plates cleared while we were still eating (we weren't asked), and the others were then left for another 15 minutes. We had hoped to order desserts but waited so long that we asked for the bill instead and left no gratuity. Disappointing. visited The Narrow Boat on 17 Jun 2017

I use to go to this pub 7 years ago and certainly felt different this time, unfortunately not for the best reasons. Food was average and wine was not chilled. The waiter tried to justify the wine wine and pro seco temperature by saying that all their wine in the fridge was like that and offered to bring ice cubes to make it better!!!!! not very impressive in wine knowledge either. visited The Narrow Boat on 30 May 2017

Reply from The Narrow Boat

Apologies in your less than desirable experience. Our staff have had extensive wine knowledge and so should be able to inform you... I will look into more training, as for the warmth of your drink we will look at our fridges. Pop me an email on narrowboatevents@youngs.co.uk and we can discuss further.

Worst service we have ever encountered. They got the order wrong but couldn't recook as they had run out of steak so we were forced to order burgers. They ran out of steaks on a Friday at 7pm. Oh, and the fishpie too. As for burgers, one of us asked for them without cheese. Once came out an hour before the other one, yes an hour, and when asked if they could check on the outstanding burger, the waitress answered "I've just come off my break and cannot get any sense out of the kitchen". Ummm...... We had the foresight to order dessert when ordering the dinner as we knew they were low on stock. They bought that out just as my partner was tucking into her burger. Waitress then got annoyed that we would not accept them and said "but you ordered that burger over an hour ago". Again, ummmmm. Fairs fair, they offered us 20% staff discount. Oh no wait, not good enough frankly. Had to press the point that we were not willing to pay as after two and half hours, nothing had gone well and everyone was annoyed. They then asked us if we would be back again. Frankly, I spent the rest of the weekend avoiding the pub and won't be going back there. Shame. Setting is ace but the service was more than shoddy and a real let down. Only getting one star as I am not allowed to post with zero. Hannah visited The Narrow Boat on 26 May 2017

A perfect way to end our London stay - a walk along the canal to The Narrowboat and a very good dinner. We had a lovely table for two overlooking the canal. The hostess was gracious and friendly and our wait person Deborah was delightful. It almost didn't matter how good the food was (and the lamb roast with mint sauce was exceptional) because timely good service and a lovely location went a long way toward making us happy. visited The Narrow Boat on 07 May 2017

Might be an ok place to have a drink outside by the canal but NOT for dinner. Service was terrible. Lots of inattentive and inexperienced waiters hanging around the bar and not serving table. Food was lovely and atmosphere was great. I think they were extremely understaffed, though, so I felt quite sorry for the wait staff as things were very, very slow and they were getting quite a lot of complaints. It didn't really bother us as we weren't in a rush and spent the whole afternoon there. visited The Narrow Boat on 06 May 2017

Have eaten here a number of times and always enjoyed it. Unfortunately, today was a very disappointing experience. Fish & chips not available because of late supplier delivery. Two of 4 mains delivered to table luke warm. Spiced cauliflower main was disappointing - its small size better suited for appetiser. Our server did her best, but overall atmosphere and service was very confused, frenetic and harried. Not the enjoyable and leisurely canal side lunch we'd expected or hoped. Very disappointed. visited The Narrow Boat on 06 May 2017

Lovely day and appropriately super location/venue. Roast lunches pretty expensive for an out of Londoner but probably average for London - £18.00 - so we all opted for slightly cheaper options such as burgers and fish and chips which were enjoyable enough. They definitely need to sort out a problem they have regarding carrying plates with gravy on them. Either change the plates to higher sided ones or serve the gravy separately. Twice the waitresses were pouring gravy off the sides as they were delivering them to the table, a slip hazard and also pretty dire if you happen to be sitting in the firing line. My brother in law had gravy spilled down the back of his merino wool sweater and through to his top. Their response to this when advised about it was not what it should have been! Lucky for them he is not the type to kick up a fuss. visited The Narrow Boat on 09 Apr 2017

As always the food here is great. The service has never been amazing but this visit was particularly disappointing. The only way to get hold of the staff was to chase them round the restaurant. One of our guest out of the 11 of us dining didn't receive his roast dinner until the other 10 of us were half way through out meals. Coffee's took around 35-40 minutues but the dessert came within 10. One of the ladies was smiley enough, the other didn't look like she wanted us there at all. Sadly we wont be dining here again. 10 of us came to the narrow boat for my nans birthday on Sunday. 4 of us choose to have the Sunday roast 3 beef and one pork belly. Unfortunately for us the food was cold, tasteless and the beef didn't seem too fresh at all and us 4 left hungry after waiting nearly 45mins for the food. One Of your staff was very helpful and he did refund us for some of the food. It's a real shame as I have been before and had an amazing roast. The rest of the party had fish and chips and burgers and there was no complaints there and your truffle chips were very tasty, just a real shame about the rest. visited The Narrow Boat on 26 Feb 2017

We always love coming to the Narrow Boat. Service and food are always wonderful. However, this time the service was actually very slow - nearly 15 minutes to get drinks. Over 30-40 minutes to receive our food from the time we ordered. I recommended the burger to 2 of my friends (it's usually great!). Although, this time it was really overdone and very dry. We didn't complain at the time since I've previously not had any issues and thought it would be way more hassle to wait another 30 mins for our food and make everyone wait. I'll be sure to give it another try as I do love the atmosphere. Just wanted to provide feedback...even though it was clear the restaurant was busy...the service definitively suffered because of it which isn't great, adimatteo visited The Narrow Boat on 19 Feb 2017

The food was fine. Very basic pub food. The service - well, what can I say? Firstly, I was given a dirty glass. When I requested a clean glass, the waiter handed it over to me with his fingers on the rim. Not very sanitary. The drinks they had on offer were basic - no herbal tea nor decaf coffee. However, I enjoyed being on the canal and the pub itself has a nice feel. So, I'll go back - however, this time no food, beer only, and I'll ask the waiter to handle the glass differently (from the base, please). visited The Narrow Boat on 04 Jan 2017

Hi, I've been to the NB before and its was good. On Xmas day it was bit below expectations. Firstly my order took three phone calls to get right and it was still wrong on the placement card on the table. We didn't get the meet & greet Proseco- and had to ask for it when sat down. The soups were truly awful- we sent two back- it was like lemon medicine- the worst I've ever had. The replacement croquettes were also tasteless and why put Juniper (?) berries with it, they taste like poison , so bitter. The 'green' garnish was also so bitter to taste, it was unpleasant. It felt like the chef was trying too hard to be inventive and got it wrong. The main course was excellent! The figgy pudding was served cold which wasn't right. One other thing that spoilt the experience- I was sat opposite the waste bin so had to watch all the scraps being tipped into it, it is really unpleasant and this should not be visible to diners. Sorry its a poor review but there were so many things wrong . The staff were really nice and friendly. Best wishes David visited The Narrow Boat on 25 Dec 2016

The only reason I gave 4 stars is because our booking got mixed up with someone else's and we were told that we had not ordered what we did but in the end it got sortedou, but It kind of spoilt the beginning of our meal. visited The Narrow Boat on 25 Dec 2016

Where to start - the food was very sub par, the nut roasts we ordered were hardly touched, not very nice at all. All meals were supposed to have roast potatoes, all but 2 out of 11 had them, we had to ask for a bowl of spuds! One of the waitresses was really nice, the other just really didn't want to be there and huffed every time she came over. The crumble desserts were inedible, and most of them went back untouched. We felt that the food wasn't worth the money we paid (and it was a lot). We were really looking forward to having an enjoyable Christmas dinner but left hungry and angry. I ordered the fish and chips - a dish that is quite difficult to get wrong. 1stly it arrived with oversalted wedges, not chips, and the fish batter was black and burnt where is had been over fried. Mulled cider was good / food was awful but given the 40min wait I just left it on my plate. Good location. visited The Narrow Boat on 11 Dec 2016

The Narrow Boat provides a convivial place to eat and drink. The food and service was very good. It was unfortunate that a few customers caused a disturbance and that they were not ejected before there was an accident with a pint of lager. A very small part of the spilt lager caught me on my side even though there was an intervening table. However, I shall be sure to return there with my wife. visited The Narrow Boat on 01 Dec 2016

Very tasty food and a lovely atmosphere, Unfotunately my Dad's venison pie contained 3 pieces of venison which was rather dissapointing. I did mention this to 2 staff at the time who apologised but I'm not sure the information was passed on and it migh thave been nice to offer my Dad's desert on the house. I will return because I love this pub but I it was a little dissapointing. visited The Narrow Boat on 26 Nov 2016

I like the pub but it's the second time they haven't received my reservation. They found a table but it was by the door and it was freezing, there was no heating on, just a heater over the door that made no difference. This reservations system needs sorting out, I'll call next time. visited The Narrow Boat on 08 Nov 2016

Great food with generous portions, great atmosphere, lovely setting and very helpful and friendly staff. The only downside was that the downstairs room we were in felt very chilly - heating didn't appear to be working and draughty windows! But apart from that - it was great. visited The Narrow Boat on 06 Nov 2016

Thanks for your feedback. We do apologise that your experience was not the best it should have been. Right on cue our heating system packed up before Christmas, we did manage to get some industrial heaters, hot water bottles and blankets which perhaps may have been just after your visit. We have everything working now and i hope you will come in again and soak up the amazing festive warmth.

Good service and good food. Well kept real ales. The pub seemed cold - was the heating off? It's a fairly short menu - but then, this is a pub. My partner (who is a vegetarian) found something she could eat on the menu, but there wasn't a huge choice. visited The Narrow Boat on 13 Oct 2016
