London Zoo

Description

London Zoo, officially known as ZSL London Zoo, is the world’s oldest scientific zoo, founded in 1828 and located within Regent’s Park. Operated by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), it spans 36 acres and is home to nearly 15,000 animals across over 650 species. The zoo’s interior is a blend of historic architecture and immersive, modern habitats. Highlights include the Gorilla Kingdom, a lush, rainforest-style enclosure; Land of the Lions, which recreates the Gir Forest of India; and Penguin Beach, the largest penguin pool in England. Other standout exhibits include Tiger Territory, Rainforest Life, and the newly revamped Monkey Valley.

ZSL London Zoo is a member of BIAZA, EAZA, and WAZA, and is internationally recognized for its conservation and education work. It receives no government funding, relying instead on memberships, donations, and ticket sales. The zoo offers a range of family-friendly food options, including cafés and kiosks serving sandwiches, hot meals, and snacks. The zoo also hosts seasonal events and interactive experiences, such as animal talks and behind-the-scenes tours, making it a dynamic destination for visitors of all ages.
