Decks And The City – Friday night launch party - 29 April 2016

We have some very exciting news to announce. Due to the overwhelming success of “Decks and the City” over the past two years, we are now moving to the last Friday of the month from 9pm to 4am at the Horse and Groom. It is testament to all the support and commitment from City-based DJs and our fans that we are able to take things to a totally new level.

As “Decks and the City” regulars know, we are all about providing a platform for up and coming DJs who work in the financial services sector by day and have a secret passion for House music, to play out and have lots of fun. We stay true to our soulful House roots recreating, an original Chicago vibe in a cosy setting where an eclectic group of people mingle effortlessly while munching on platters of pulled beef, discussing the issues of the day, and dancing the night away. We also push the boundaries musically and the repertoire ranges from disco House grooves to deeper beats as the night progresses. It is a haven for the discerning music lover.

To get things off with a bang, the Tempo Tantrum trio make a return having played at DATC last year to great acclaim. Tempo Tantrum is a collective of DJs who have been DJing and putting on parties in and around London for 15 years, whilst also supporting the likes of Leftfield and SubFocus on UK tours. From day one they’ve shared a love of 90s dance music in all its guises, from early rave through to house, garage and jungle. They will engaging in some vinyl revival on the night! When not gracing the wheels of steel, the guys can be found quietly humming house anthems in the office. Matt is an investment banker, Adrian is a telecoms analyst and Mark is a media planner.

They will be followed by the superstar, Jay A. He found House music as he explored music styles through college and university. Starting with faster DnB before mellowing down to find a groovier speed around 120bpm, he picked up some decks and has been collecting records ever since. He works as a Business Analyst at a major UK bank in the change delivery function. This involves managing the delivery of Clearing Projects. You can listen to some of his mixes here https://www.soundcloud.com/jasonswaine

“Decks and the City” founder and resident DJ, Ali Miraj will take up the reins at 2am when the party is off the hook. You can listen to some of Ali’s stuff here

If you want to come please email malimiraj@hotmail.com to be added to the guest list. Free entry before 10pm and £5 after. Bring your dancing shoes.

Menus

  • Cuisine

    This event serves Pizza food.

  • A word from the chef:

Yard Sale Pizza It all began with a little oven, chugging away in Johnnie’s own backyard. Seven years later and we’re serving love and pizza across North, East and now South London. We’ve made some great friends along the way, starting with Macaulay Culkin and his band The Pizza Underground who performed at our Clapton shop’s launch party. Since then we’ve worked on some epic pizza collaborations from NYC pizza legend Frank Pinello, to Mercury prize nominated musician Loyle Carner and more recently, Dalston kebab legends Mangal 2 Through our special events and collaborations, we’ve been able to raise money for a number of charities over the years including Hackney Night Shelter, Football Beyond Borders and Chilli Con Carner, as well as feeding over 8,000 NHS staff at local hospitals during the pandemic through our NHS Pizza Fund. We were awarded Best Value Eats in the Observer Food Monthly awards in 2022, after winning their Best Cheap Eats award in 2017, have been voted London’s favourite pizza in Time Out’s inaugural Clash of the Slices in 2022, and were named London’s most-loved restaurant in Time Out’s 2016 Love London Awards. We’ve been featured in the likes of Time Out, The Telegraph, Buzzfeed, Shortlist, Vogue, Evening Standard and on Sunday Brunch. We’ll always be local at heart, making orders by hand and delivering them ourselves through our in-house delivery service – never through a third party. Handmade, hand-delivered from dough to door. It makes award-winning neighbourhood pizza that bit better. We hope you agree.
