Decks And The City – Friday night launch party - 29 April 2016

We have some very exciting news to announce. Due to the overwhelming success of “Decks and the City” over the past two years, we are now moving to the last Friday of the month from 9pm to 4am at the Horse and Groom. It is testament to all the support and commitment from City-based DJs and our fans that we are able to take things to a totally new level.

As “Decks and the City” regulars know, we are all about providing a platform for up and coming DJs who work in the financial services sector by day and have a secret passion for House music, to play out and have lots of fun. We stay true to our soulful House roots recreating, an original Chicago vibe in a cosy setting where an eclectic group of people mingle effortlessly while munching on platters of pulled beef, discussing the issues of the day, and dancing the night away. We also push the boundaries musically and the repertoire ranges from disco House grooves to deeper beats as the night progresses. It is a haven for the discerning music lover.

To get things off with a bang, the Tempo Tantrum trio make a return having played at DATC last year to great acclaim. Tempo Tantrum is a collective of DJs who have been DJing and putting on parties in and around London for 15 years, whilst also supporting the likes of Leftfield and SubFocus on UK tours. From day one they’ve shared a love of 90s dance music in all its guises, from early rave through to house, garage and jungle. They will engaging in some vinyl revival on the night! When not gracing the wheels of steel, the guys can be found quietly humming house anthems in the office. Matt is an investment banker, Adrian is a telecoms analyst and Mark is a media planner.

They will be followed by the superstar, Jay A. He found House music as he explored music styles through college and university. Starting with faster DnB before mellowing down to find a groovier speed around 120bpm, he picked up some decks and has been collecting records ever since. He works as a Business Analyst at a major UK bank in the change delivery function. This involves managing the delivery of Clearing Projects. You can listen to some of his mixes here

“Decks and the City” founder and resident DJ, Ali Miraj will take up the reins at 2am when the party is off the hook. You can listen to some of Ali’s stuff here

If you want to come please email to be added to the guest list. Free entry before 10pm and £5 after. Bring your dancing shoes.

The line-up is as follows:

9pm – 12am – Tempo Tantrum

12am – 2am – Jay A

2am – 4am – Ali Miraj (resident)

If you work in the City want to join in the fun by spinning then contact Ali at as we are keen to showcase new talent.

This venue serves Mexican food.

A word from the chef:
Gourmet Gorditas-Gourmet Gorditas was started by Santiago and Pedro, two authentic and unique Mexicans who wanted to bring something authentic and unique from their homeland to London. Gorditas are hand-made flatbreads stuffed with different kind of fillings, a type of street food that's incredibly popular in the north of Mexico (where Santiago was born and raised), but has yet to be discovered by most Londoners. Gourmet Gorditas are the very first (and so far the only) place making gorditas in London, and after only a few months trading in Brick Lane, award-winning food blogger Chris Osburn named them one of the best street food places in Shoreditch: Santiago and Pedro have created recipes that take inspiration from authentic Mexican dishes, but have given them a 'foodie' spin by using the best locally-sourced gourmet ingredients. They're life partners as well as business partners, so their company is a family affair, a life-long dream of Santiago's which together they've made a reality. If you've not heard of Burger bear by now.... Where have you been? Launched in 2012 on the street, Burger Bear can be found serving up one of London's best burgers to a sound track of disco beats all across London. Burger Bear Tom, brainchild, behind the Bear created bacon jam and makes some of the best Mac & Cheese balls you'll ever eat. Moving from street food to venues, he now has a spot in Peckham, The Magic Roundabout on the top of Old Street Station and Stokey Bears, in, you've guessed it Stoke Newington. This winter, he is holding up the reins at The Horse and Groom pub where you'll find him cooking up creative interpretations of classic American dishes with Great British ingredients. Inspired dishes to keep you felling warm inside this Christmas. There'll also be some XXXmas classics on the menu too!
