Well behaved women don't make history and Joséphine De Beauharnais is one of history's most famous lovers. With an undeniable level of sass, hustle and a little luck to rival Gloria, Joséphine became the Empress of the French. Josephine was unapologetic, she knew who she was and who she wanted to be and didn’t give a damn what anyone thought.
After her first marriage ended with her husband’s run in with the guillotine, Joséphine used her cunning and seduction to get released the day before her own date with the blade. As expected, she promised herself that she would live a sybaritic lifestyle, adopting the motto ‘c’est la f**king vie’. She became THE hedonistic It Girl of her time, a hot mess with no regrets. A real party on the dance floor and great in the sack.
She got hitched to Napoleon and while he was off womanising, warmongering and conquering Europe bit by bit, she kept herself busy by throwing parties with only the most prestigious aristocracy of her time. She eventually joined Napoleon the night before his final battle only to have her advances rebuffed by him, “Not Tonight Joséphine” - the only man ever to turn her away. He was then exiled to Elba, to live out his final days, partying the nights away. He still loved her until his death, her name being his very last word.
