Description

Looking Glass Cocktail Club is a stylish speakeasy bar, situated in the heart of buzzing Shoreditch, on the hip and yet undiscovered Hackney Road. Step through the opulent ‘looking glass’ to enter a quirky 'secret room', a parallel world of decedent debauchery and tantalising entertainment. With moody subtle lighting, Louis XVI inspired furniture, brocade fabrics and other lovingly sourced vintage pieces, this is the perfect spot to throw a party and taste some of the best cocktails in London!

We have a secret laboratory, fondly named 'Underland', that is always buzzing with talented Mixters and Mixtresses making the syrups, bitters, Jamari, and liqueurs necessary to create the unique flavours in our delectable cocktails. Our regular dipsomaniacs love our signature aquavit, sugar-free vermouth, fernet, and panettone liqueur, to name but a few!

Our newest menu is a book to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. All of the signature drinks follow the story of the Wonderland residents as they spiral down a rabbit-hole of intoxication at their favourite speakeasy: Looking Glass Cocktail Club. Start your night with a taste of the ocean with our Pool of Tears: a signature shot to enlarge any event. Enjoy a different kind of tea party with our Turtle Soup: a flaming punch bowl made right at your table by the Mad Hatter himself! Experience the Shrinking Violet change its colour when you mix up this layered, sparkling cocktail!

The entertainment at Looking Glass is titillating and challenges the powers of perception. Fusing live music with performance art, Looking Glass is the home of Sessions 58 - the hottest acoustic sessions in town, and to some of the weirdest and wicked events in the East End.

Date night complete! As we made our way through a large (over the top large!) wall mirror we are lead into a cozy speakeasy den, surrounded by sofas and armchairs waiting for us to nestle in. Bartenders at the ready, serving us st our table, I was blown away with my 'Uncle Monty' cocktail. Appearance alone my martini styled glass was a vibrant pink, garnished with broccoli (strange but works) and embellished with a plastic bag and bamboo causing my mind to wander and wonder what to expect. Tarquin's Dry Gin, sweetened with beetroot syrup, twisted with lemon and paired with Campari- I thoroughly enjoyed my cocktail concoction trying to nurse my glass with ill success. Worth a visit and a great surprise to any cocktail lover.

Went here for my December birthday. Asked for an area and although disappointed that I never got to see what was behind the mirrored door, it was a great evening. Perfect place to start your night with a little sophistication - somewhere you can really catch up with friends. The area we were given was more than big enough for my 20 guests and the pizzas I ordered from an external caterer, which the staff collect for you were amazing!!

Going to this place really is like falling down the rabbit hole. I had tickets to the Burlesque in Underworld show and didn't know to expect. We were shown our seats (that were behind a massive mirror) and enjoyed two hours of burlesque madness. The acts were great and bottles of prosecco are very reasonable.

Really great cocktails but came at a price. Cool bar area, quick and friendly service. Good place to start the night as it wasn't too busy. Music was cool although a tad loud for 7pm.

Loved the Alice in Wonderland themed cocktails which looked and tasted amazing. And although the looking glass area was closed we were allowed through to have a look. Definitely interesting

Nice quirky chilled out cocktail bar. A good starting block for the madness that shoreditch has to offer. Would I recommend it to others and I'm also looking to return. Marc visited Looking Glass Cocktail Club on 15 Oct 2015

Wow, I don't even know where to start. I booked my sisters 30th birthday here and although the booking process was very simple, it was like they were out to ruin it on the evening. We first arrived and found out the area they had booked for 40 people was not big enough to hold 40 people. They were not apologetic at all, basically said like it or lump it. They then proceeded to tell us off for everything we had already agreed when booking i.e. helium balloons, food set up, cake etc. etc. They mixed up peoples bar tabs, were rude and just shouldn't work in hospitality to be honest. Not to mention they add service charge in EVERY drink you order from the bar. Could be a great venue if they had better management. Will never go back.

Aside from having my bum paddled by a leather board on the way in, this is such a charming little place that thankfully doesn't get too jammed. bartenders really know what they're doing and the lavendar mojito goes down a treat

I randomly saw this place on my way home and didn't think much of it until I saw it on here; made a booking and went down with a few friends last Thursday and I have to say it was pretty cool indeed. Drinks are a bit out there but actually really nice, and the guy behind the bar even took us 'behind the mirror' - I won't ruin the surprise, but it's not dirty - promise! lol!

Cocktails were good and the place is quirky. I did find the staff a bit aloof and there wasnt a great atmosphere. I went midweek which is why it was quiet. Perhaps better on a weekend

Reply from Looking Glass Cocktail Club

The atmosphere is indeed very different when we have events on (live music, DJs or performances). Please try to come again one of those nights.

Cocktails were great and the setup really cool and quirky. The only thing that bothered me was that I booked a table through DesignMyNight a few weeks in advance and when I got there the staff had no record of my booking! The staff repeatedly asked me to prove that I had a booking (even to the point they moved us around tables several times!) which was really annoying as it was my birthday and I just really wanted to relax with my friends! I will go back again but next time I'm booking directly so I can enjoy my evening more.

We're very sorry you had a bad experience, we're looking into it to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Went with family, totally unsure of what i would find. It happened to be Monday, which was open mike night. What we stumbled upon was a fabulous musical event. Warm inviting atmosphere. Lots of audience involvement. Wonderful different cocktails. Great Service. Want a wonderful time. The place was really rocking!

Went here on a date with my girlfriend and it was great. Friendly waiters, went through to the secret room, and all the staff were dressed up with whips and lacey underwear. Was fantastic

A friend booked a table there for her birthday. I wasn't expecting much, not being much of a Shoreditch type of person and I was really surprised! Amazing service, the cocktail makers are passionate about their work and could talk about it for hours (don't get them started if you're not ready for it!). The cocktails are very interesting with unusual flavours. I would recommend it for a nice friendly evening with a group of mates.

I booked this place for a very suave event that my company requested I organise. It was an ideal location as the private back room was very large and able to accommodate all of us. The bar staff were prompt at making complex cocktails and we were able to enjoy the night without any worries. I'd like to thank the staff for making the night such a wonderful event and the area is stunningly beautiful with dimly lit lights, sofas and recliners to relax on with an ice cold negroni.

Horrible experience!!! The stuff was very unprofessional, especially for William, the guy who runs the bar. I went there to have a look at it because I wanted to organize my 30s birthday and I was not sure where to celebrate it. I liked it especially for the back-room behind the mirror. I talked to the guy at the bar, William, to arrange my birthday there the next month. He told me that there was availability and to give him a deposit. So, I did it and I booked for a privee’ in the back room behind the mirror for Saturday the 26th of October. The day after I started inviting people when two days later this guy, William, called me saying that unfortunately there has been a misunderstanding and for that Saturday it was fully booked so he asked me to change at the Friday. So, I did it. Although complaining a bit because I had already invited people. The Friday of my birthday came and I called the guy on the day before just to be sure that everything was alright. He confirmed me and reassured me that everything was fine. On the Friday of my birthday, early afternoon I received a call from him where he started saying that he had a very bad news for me and he had to cancel!!!! I repeat … the same day of my birthday, 3 hours before he cancelled!!!!!!!! His justification was that the owner of the place was having a charity event with about 150 people invited with 3djs included and he just knew from that morning. He offered me for makes me happy 3 cocktails and 2 bottle of prosecco for me and my 30 friends !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, how is it possible that 150 people are coming for a charity event and you know it the same day!??!? So, I never went to the Looking Glass and I do not recommend to no one !! On the same day of my birthday when I was a t work I had to call all the places in Shoreditch to find a space for me and my 30 friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course, everything was fully booked!! At the end, Cargo allowed me to reserve some tables and the night was really fun !! I think the guy was very unprofessional, I think he probably knew since before that there was a big event but he called me at the last moment making up that he did not know. If you have 150 people coming in your bar for a charity event with 3 djs you will probably need to get ready at least 3 weeks before.

Angelica, We'd like to take this opportunity to further apologies for having to relocate your reserved area for your birthday on the 23rd October. For every event we organise we always try our utmost to accommodate every single one of our customer to our best abilities, however on this occasion we did, to our biggest regrets, make a miscalculation in regards to your wants and needs. We hope that you one day will come to understand our decision and somehow move forwards. Best, The Looking Glass Team

Cool cocktails, cool atmosphere, cool staff, and nice that it's hidden away from the general crowds off Kingsland/Shoreditch. I like.

The bar was almost empty and after waiting at the bars for our drinks, we were shown to a table and was told it was table service but then waited 15 minutes for a drinks menu then waited another 15 minutes for our orders to be taken. When cocktails finally arrived, the waiter hovered arkwardly for a few minutes and then asked if we wanted a tab or pay now? Bizzare table service but I said that I'd pay now. He then put his hand out and asked for £22.50 without even bringing the bill over?? Very strange table service. We thought the cocktails would make up for the bad service but I couldn't even drink mine....the teacup was cool though, very prohibition. Wouldn't recommend to anyone and would never go again. Bad end to a fab night unfortunately.

Went on a wednesday and they said they werent opening the mirror as its quieter mid week so sat in the beautiful front bar instead. Great cocktails with very knowledgable bar tenders. Great for mid week chill out cocktails with a bang. I did get to have a look behind the mirror and the space is cool and can imagine it being amazing on a busy weekend...gonna come back and check that out

Even though I have never been in New York, this place just oozes New York speakeasy (like the places you only hear about or watch in films). Headed behind the secret entrance through the mirror and a warehouse feel with quirky interior just made the night completely. Great for big groups that cathing up over drinks.
