The Old School Yard

The Old School Yard is a bar that recognises the working Londoner's yearning for simpler times. They've turned the clock back, or more accurately, have set it to stay at 3.10pm constantly, so that the bar is suspended in a state of perpetual childhood elation created by the bell that rings for home time. It calls itself a bar and playground, and this sums up the perfect balance between the childlike innocence of the Nintendo games and the adult love of cold hard liquor that you can find here. It's like you've just been released from math class and instead of a glass of milk and homework waiting for you, there's cocktails and karaoke.

The cocktails are made by bartenders that you could learn a thing or two from; their skills are top-of-the-class, with bottles being thrown about behind the bar like a fast game of rounders. The menu itself is pretty fabulous; like a secret cartoon book scrawled in by a mischievous older sibling. Watch out for the Espresso Martini in the biology section. It comes with a wise warning though; it might leave you addicted and craving more. So pack up your pencil case, grab your backpack and remember the good old days at this brilliant retro bar.

For those with a competitive streak or those who just want a bit of retro fun there’s a Nintendo 64 machine with Mario Kart which can be used by any of our guests free of charge! There is also a Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles arcade games machine, Pinball machine and table football (foosball).

Shake, stir and sip your way through a fun and interactive two-hour Cocktail Masterclass.

During the session, you’ll create 3–4 cocktails each guided by our expert bartenders. This hands-on experience explores a range of flavours, ingredients and premium spirits, with a focus on mastering the perfect balance of sweet, sour and bitter.

You'll learn the techniques, flavour pairings and simple methodologies that will give you the confidence to recreate impressive cocktails at home.
