Description

You'll find the alluring Cecil's cocktail bar nestled in the intimate basement of a Victorian warehouse, and within a short stroll of London Bridge. Dimly lit, full of suspended red lanterns and featuring plenty of space to have a little boogie away from the network of tables and chairs, the decor is characterised by hints of the orient. Cecil's list of drinks is definitely something to write home about - they've compiled a cabinet bursting at the seams with innovative cocktails, wines, beers, spirits and pick-me-ups so you'll be sure to encounter something that takes your fancy.

The drinks are great, but Cecil's has plenty more in its locker than just that. For starters they regularly showcase the kind of musical talent that it can be hard to come across these days. When you throw in an effortlessly stylish crowd that the venue attracts, you've got a pretty formidable all round package that makes it an eye-catching candidate for a night out in the London Bridge area.

A really well done themed bar. Humorous staff, a fun house band, strong cocktails, and dancing is encouraged. Again, I'm fond of it because it manages to be unpretentious whilst proclaiming to be an underground, themed cocktail bar.

What a hoot! Went for a drink after work with a friend & stayed until close! Had a great time dancing in what can only be described as the most eclectic decor. You walk into a warehouse, through a laundry & into an outdoor courtyard kind of space. The beer was cold & the music was great. It was also full of really nice people unlike many of the local pubs but then I guess this isn't to everyones tastes

I held a social event at Cecil's Bar last month and had the worst experience i ever had. The manager was rude - blame on us and said our social event was too loud there. I don't get it, it is a bar, people are suppose to network. She also blame on us for shortage of her staff. We will never go back there. felt humiliated. I wrote them a nice email afterward to thank them to have us there. I have never heard back from them.

Closed - only for private events. So avoid. Despite their website alluding to the fact they are a bar, they are a private event space. As we discovered after travelling hours for a visit! Members of the public are not allowed. I sent a polite message after, letting them know their website really shouldn't mislead. Three emails - completely ignored! That sums up what they think. So please do not waste your time by attempting a visit.

I was looking to throw and engagement party with my fiancée just under a month in advance. I got in contact with Munroe (who was very quick to respond and happy to answer any of my questions) who let me know the venue was available and gave us some further details. My fiancée visited the bar in person and met Munroe less than 24 hours after my initial email enquiry and she promised us that the bar could be ours for the date we wanted. The bar (we were looking at the ground floor specifically) is really quirky and would be cool for a party. However, drinks are pricy and the drinks packages don’t make much sense – the cheapest is £45 per person for five drinks which means you are essentially paying £9 for someone to have a single spirit and mixer/small wine/beer/soft drink. There is also no draught beer and only one choice of cider. We confirmed the date with our family and friends and I then confirmed via email less than six hours after my fiancée’s visit (at 5.45pm) that we wanted to hold our party there and that my boyfriend would be able to pay the deposit in person the following day. As promised my fiancée went to Cecil’s the next day and paid the deposit. After paying the deposit we were then informed that Cecil’s had accidentally double booked and that one of the other staff members had taken deposit for someone else the night before (despite us confirming we would pay the deposit prior to that). Unfortunately, for such an unusual bar and as friendly and responsive as Munroe was, I think there must be a real lack of communication between staff and I feel very let down at the way we were treated. It is a huge inconvenience that they took a deposit from us despite already being booked and we now have to restart our search from scratch. In addition, they didn’t offer us any alternatives other than a date change. Further to this, it took two weeks for us to receive our £300 deposit back. We only managed to obtain it by going into Cecil’s on a Wednesday evening and asking the Manager in person to effect the transfer there and then. In conclusion, if I was looking to book this venue I would be extremely worried about being let down even closer to the date of the event (after invites had been sent out or arrangements made for food/decorations) –and I worry about the management of the venue given the length of time it took for us to receive our deposit back after they took it in error. Unfortunately I would absolutely AVOID booking here in the future until it was clear that something had been done to prevent this happening in the future. Interesting to see that someone else had a similar experience less than two weeks ago. AVOID.

Dear Lord.My first day back at work after 4 months and i'm reading this! What can i say? What a mess. I really don't know what my (now ex if it makes you feel any better) assistants were thinking, but now i'm back (hardly a consolation to you of course) and I intent to make it up to everyone who got messed up with me , the GM ,being away and running like headless chickens. I really am lost for words. This is a horror experience and i'm ashamed for those people. I'm so so so sorry and please, let me know if i can do anything for you. Maybe even New Year's eve or during Christmas when bars usually refuse to give anything away for free. I'm so ashamed and terribly sorry. This is not how i work. I'm so sorry i've been away for so long and didn't take care of you. Kindest apologies and regards. Tolis

Great venue, if easy to miss and walk past! Attended a friend's leaving drinks here and thought it was a gem of a venue. Decent range of cocktails and quirky decor. Definitely worth visiting amidst the range of "speakeasy's" that are being set up!

Found this hidden gem by mistake whilst lost in the back streets of London Bridge and what a revelation it was! So bored of going out in London but i love secret venues. Don't remember much afterwards so it must have been a great night indeed.

The team at Cecil's were brilliant! So helpful and friendly both planning the party and on the night. Everyone loved the venue, the customised drinks and the treehouse! We had such an amazing time we are going back again this summer!

They say a bar is only as good as the people it gathers and by that measure Cecil’s delivers on all fronts. The staff, the patrons, and the performers all together create an atmosphere like no other in London. I hosted my birthday celebration there this year, after having seen the amazing vibes at previous visits. Cecil’s caters to special moments that we have, so I knew they would make my birthday just so special. On that Saturday, a jazz quartet was performing led by a charismatic singer that delivered on stage and off stage, by animating the crowd with his innate friendliness. The staff was perfectly attentive and gregarious as usual, and we soon found ourselves partying not just with our own friends, but also with the other patrons that we met there. My friends could not stop raving about the band and everyone they met. This is the magic Cecil’s creates, and for that it more deserves all the accolades it has gotten already! PS: The décor, drinks, music choices and everything else that makes a bar are top notch and as expected for a classy venue in a city like London.

Had the most amazing night at Cecil's watching the live band. They get everyone involved, I can not recommend it more highly. The people, the staff the music was all amazing with the added bonus of getting dressed up :)

They completely ruined my 30th birthday celebration. I was expecting 30 people who have made an effort to spend their night and celebrate with me, which in London can be quite hard to organise btw!! The manager had sent us a 'voicemessage' to inform us there will be a private party on the same night so even after having confirmed our booking they have decided to close the place on that night and host the private party instead - worse part is he had ASSUMED we received the message therefore cancelled our booking without receiving any confirmation from us. Due to this on the night of my birthday party my guests turned up confused and some had left to go elsewhere as they weren't sure what was happening, leaving my friends that had turned up earlier outside in the cold unsure of what to do or where to go. It was a Friday night too 11pm and typical London fashion not easy to organise something that late for a big group. We ended up in a bar they placed us at in Bermondsey which was so cold and only had outside seating. When I arrived my guests were all frozen standing outside. We managed to find a corner in some shitty bar with expensive drinks but I have to say Cecil's you really ruined my 30th birthday, one which will NEVER COME BACK! On top of that we apparently have a round of drinks at Cecil's with a 'few' friends... One that was never confirmed. Forget about this place. I thought it would've made a good party but clearly they have some issues with making simple bookings. I won't take the risk and neither will any of the 30 people I had with me.

Incredible venue and staff. Really well placed with a wonderful vibe. We held a launch gig for the new Philip Kane album, Flowers & Ledges, and it couldn't have gone better. Plus the sound engineer is a genius. Highly recommend.

Didn't have a booking contrary to what some internet users said and got in with no problem. Fabulous cabaret night that friday night and a bit of the beaten track but that ads to it.

I first came to this place as a friend's recommendation but what a little gem it turned out to be. I had a great time celebrating my birthday. Staff went out of the way to accommodate me and my friends even though we were more people than in the original booking. Highly recommended, delicious cocktails, really nice atmosphere.
