Description

ninetyeight lounge and bar is a top Shoreditch cocktail bar infused with a mischievous mix of toys, sweets and luscious, quirky décor. In the midst of Curtain Road, basement bar ninetyeight is a breath of fresh air, providing an uplifting retreat for like-minded individuals. Voted top cocktail bar in London, ninetyeight is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.

Expect the unexpected. "If it's crazy, we do it", says Kath (the owner). The mixologists know their stuff too, which is evident in the quite simply delicious cocktail concoctions. This is a must go to bar for birthday drinks, dates and pre-drinks in Shoreditch.

ninetyeight is also a great bar to hire for a birthday or celebration party as you can hire the whole venue out, or they have a cool back room that can be hired out for 30-50 people and is a lot more affordable than having the whole bar.

What an amazing little venue. Ended an night out with my husband here, and after a couple of 'Green Blazers' (and some water) was convinced that we would be visiting again. Even met the owner who made every effort to ensure that we enjoyed the evening.

This is my favourite spot in London; i always feel so looked after and considered when i drop in. I have been coming to this spot for a couple of years and Kath has done a marvellous job in making the space feel like a home from home whilst also feeling like a wonderland. Service, drinks, vibe and team are WONDERFUL.

This almost feels like walking into a sophisticated cave of wonders. Love the decor and the service was polite and friendly, would recommend to friends who are visiting out of town to experience something new.

This bar is hard to miss from the street, but venturing down the spiral staircase you will enter a rich and decadently furnished bar. Full of quirky furniture, toys, artworks, jars full of sweets, liquors and potions, this is a magical wonderland of a place where you can relaxed with a nice cocktail. The cocktails themselves are unusual concoctions. We tried the 'Off With The Clouds' a blue sugary sweet offering with a cute little story behind it. There were other usual cocktails on the menu including a cocktail with baked beans! Whilst I absolutely adore this bar, you really need a sweet tooth to drink here. Indeed when entering the bar one of the first things to strike you are the sweet vapours. This said when asked the bar staff re-mixed my drink to take the sweet edge off of it. These guys seem genuinely passionate about bringing you a drink that you will enjoy, and I guarantee, you won't find anywhere else.

Really cute and quirky. Great staff and great cocktails. Is small so need to get there early and can easily be walked past from the street!

One of the most weird and wonderful bars in London. definitely a little harder to find but worth it for the Elton John aesthetic. Came for a private event and it was amazing!

I went here for my friends 30th and although the prices where fine the place wasn't that great so we didn't stay long. The decor is terrible and food is crap. Avoid it.

The most gorgeous quirky bar. Had my 40th here and always try to pop in if passing. Great and attentive staff. Excellant cocktails. Popcorn. Sweets. Perfect for a date night. Love it.

This place is gorgeous, great attention to detail. We popped in for a few drinks which were fairly pricey but worth it for the lush atmosphere. Great mellow music and table service.

I loved this place. Had my birthday in the main bar, there were about 10 of us and it was perfect. The staff were accommodating and friendly. The cocktails were innovative and lovely. The bar is quirky, and a little underground hidden gem. I just love it. Make sure you pre-book, and there is a really cool room out the back which resembled a Cuban bar. I would recommend that room or the main bar, depending on the size of the party. Loved this place, and will definitely be back again very soon. Thank you!

Elton John would just die. This place is a wonderland of furry furnishings, and a pretty well kept secret considering the rise of Shoreditch. Really unique little cavern downstairs x

98 Bar and Lounge is a hidden gem in shoreditch. It's unlike any other cocktail bar in london with a brilliant chill vibe and cosy atmosphere. The cocktail, whilest they may take a bit longer to prep are unique and original and truely tastey. In an area of london that is so over run by "unique hipster" "here today gone tomorrow" type bars its nics to go somewhere so authentic and real feeling.

The place is a joke. Overpriced drinks and staff not knowing what they are doing. We waited for each round on average 20 minutes. They forgot about an order and it appeared they run of of the ingredients and the beer! The selection of music and bringing in the random crowds for samba then beatbox performance spoiled the evening not less than paying the bill. Overall expensive and pretentious.

Went to this great tucked away cocktail bar over the weekend. It felt like the set from Alice and Wonderland, with truly inspiring decor, fabulously unique cocktail menu, and brilliant table service. The free popcorn (which was constantly filled up) was a great little touch!! A must try; the Strawberry Job, not on the menu , but I overheard someone else singing its praises. Overall, an incredible stimulus for all the senses!! Will definitely revisit.

Quirky venu and oozing Shoreditch kitsch cool. Great cocktails - Matcha Cheesecake & Eucalyptus Martini were delicious.., however waiting 25 minutes for our drinks when its not busy was a bit ridiculous. Also had a booking and felt a bit silly asking as the venue was dead but the champagne was never brought as pre-requested on my booking. Great cocktails but service needs to be upped.

Absolutely and utterly disappointed! I was organising a hen weekend last Saturday and couldn’t wait to take the group to 98 bar after the brilliant review I had read. I had been told when paying our deposit that I had to be there within a 30 minute period or our table would be given up – fair enough. However, we turned up and were told they weren’t open, even though we were due. Then they had no record of our reservation. There was no table made up for us and I had to take my stack of paperwork to one side to prove that we really had booked a table, and paid a deposit. The only excuse given was that the girl I had booked through had left! Even though I booked and paid two months before the hen do! I asked about the lickable candle wax mentioned on this website and was given a look of total confusion. Apparently they have never had homemade lickable candles in the lounge? The gourmet goodies given with our cocktails was popcorn – hardly gourmet! Especially as we had all assumed there would be some sweets. The bar detail gourmet treats and choctails on their site of which there are neither. We were also brought over the wrong cocktails which was irritating as there wasn’t many of us. There was no atmosphere and the staff were narky with us from the moment we turned up. I wouldn’t recommend the lounge for hen weekends, it was not remotely special and was, fortunately, the only big let down of our weekend.

Great place to go to if you want something different or trying to impress! The decor is simply cooky and feels like you're in your crazy aunt's living room, the drinks are equally inventive and the owner made my visit welcoming and lovely. Don't be shy to ask the bar man to rustle you up something off the menu as Cath and her team are always inventing new and fabulous drinks- my strawberry job went down a treat! Shame it closes quite early but it's a great place for a mid week drink!

Luckily the owner wasnt there when I went so I dont have the same criticism as Flang! I really enjoyed this bar. I found it in one of the secret bar features on this site and thats exactly what it is...a hidden, cool bar that I never knew existed and is hidden below the busy shoreditch streets! Only a small staircase lets you know its down there. Really amazing decor, very tasty and creative cocktails and a good funky soundtrack. A great place to catch up with mates or for sophisticated birthday drinks gatherings. I will be back!!

Nice place pity about the owner... she doesn't let customers enjoy themselves and she makes the whole experience uncomfortable and creepy. I won't go back again.
