Description

Located in the heart of Kensal Green, The Whippet Inn is a bistro bar with a focus on great vibes and stunning food, with a craft beer and wine selection to match. The daily-changing lunch and dinner menu utilises seasonal produce and the finest suppliers, drawing on a mix of classic and modern influences. Recent favourites from the specials board include grilled Cornish mackerel with charred beetroot and horseradish, or the chargrilled Hampshire pork chop with bubble & squeak and spiced apple jus. Sunday lunches are something special - watch out for the slow roast Devon lamb shoulder to share!

A relaxed atmosphere for drinkers and diners alike, this Chamberlayne Road hangout is ideal for those looking to catch up with friends over some food, grab a couple of post-work drinks or just chill on a coffee break.

We had a delicious meal and were looked after by some great staff, one of whom whipped up a cocktail on the spot that wasn't on the menu. Highly recommended. visited The Whippet Inn on 17 Mar 2017

Great night! Really nice food. We weren't able to have the halloumi becuase it was sold out which really serves as a testament to how popular it was. The chargrilled cauliflower alternative was delicious. Great wine, great espresso martini and great spot for my birthday. Being from ireland i had to have my 30th back there and so The Whippet in was a great way to spend the evening with friends who wanted to wish me well. visited The Whippet Inn on 21 Jan 2017

The food was great but the service was chaotic from start to finish. When we arrived it took 5 mins to be seated. We saw a couple whilst we were sat walk out at the door after standing for a while. We had ordered online and a staff member mentioned the starters were on the way, without asking whether we wanted drinks. Another staff member then started to hand out menus to us until she realized we had already ordered the Xmas menu. All was ok during the meal . There was also complication when we received the bill. I'd paid £70 deposit but wasn't deducted from the bill, it was revised but total was still the same but the staff member said that it had been reduced she went back again and finally the £70 was taken off the total. A few niggles from making this a lovely Xmas lunch with family who had travelled down from London. I wish we had just gone with the Sunday menu. visited The Whippet Inn on 18 Dec 2016

our host Savannah was A class! We thoroughly enjoyed the venue and atmosphere. Only reason it's 4* is because the main (Turkey) was average. visited The Whippet Inn on 18 Dec 2016

Held a dinner at the Whippet for 70 staff. Dave (the manager) was extremely helpful on the evening and throughout the booking process. The meal went off without a hitch and the food was great. Good venue, good beers and wine list. Would definitely recommend the venue. visited The Whippet Inn on 13 Dec 2016

Great experience as usual. Good attentive service despite being pretty short of staff. Food was a bit slow as a result but is worth it - always interesting ingredients and high quality. Never had a bad meal here. Also not too noisy so good for a catch-up! Sophferocious visited The Whippet Inn on 12 Oct 2016

Been here a few times and have always enjoyed it. Staff are riendly and the food is very good (the Sunday Roast excellent). It is a bit expensive, but no more expensive than any of the other pubs in the area and i think the service and quality of food is better. I love the chorizo croquettes, and whilst the draught beer isn't massive, they have some really good bottled beers. Lovely!

potential great. execution poor. shame lovely area, great places in the area already and was hopeful about this new joint opening up. even after a few months the staff seem uninterested and aloof. also tends to be a crèche on the weekend. if you have bouncy toddlers, probably for you.

Came here on my last night of my 5 week backpacking trip with my best friends and had a blast! From the moment we came in, everyone was super friendly. Food is amazing! I definitely recommend the chicken dish. The manager was so nice. Took the time to talk to us about our trip and even recommended some cool spots for the next time we come to London. Would definitely come back again!

I went to the Whippet Inn tonight and have done on many occasions. I would go as far to say its my local. Friendly staff, great atmosphere. We sat in the garden and had the cod and lamb curry. Definitely a place to go for a chilled atmosphere and good food.

The true gastronomic Mecca - a lively and exciting atmosphere paired with delicious food and INCREDIBLE service. Not only am I incredibly picky, but my other half is also lactose intolerant, and yet it felt (for once) that every single one of their customers were on the same wavelength. Its all to rare (excuse the pun) that waiters actually listed to how you would like your steak to be cooked, but when I asked for mine to be "very rare" it was not only cooked as such but also stood as the absolute reason for why anyone would ever want something cooked so lightly. The wine was just as good, and by the time we left we had already booked in the time to return - This Thursday in fact!

Drinks are overpriced (cheapest bottle of wine was £18.00) and the manager was incredibly rude!,,. The bar closed at 12am, the manager came over and barked at us and the remaining customers to drink up and go as we're closing now!, such an off hand way to talk to customer's who'd spent a substantial amount of money there, and quite frankly with so many pubs and bars going out of business, showing such contempt for your customers is certainly not conducive to staying in business!, as we were leaving the manager even had the gall to snatch drinks out of customer's hands even though they hadn't finished, saying 'i told you we're closing now,' unbelievable!, certainly won't be returning there anytime soon...it's a shame really because the other staff are v good, and friendly, but the price of the drinks and especially the awful manager really bring down the whole tone of the establishment. If they lower the prices a little and bring in a new manager it could really be a great little bar. I second all the comments below in saying sack the manager! #get the manager out now.

Bar tender is fast and efficient. Can't say the same for the manager who is rude and arrogant. Steak is nice however the rest of the food is bland and needs seasoning. I would also say the cost is 'happily not affordable'. It would be doing better if they season the food, reduce the prices and sack the manager. #sack the manager.

Like some of the other reviews here, I find the Whippet disappointing. We've given it a few goes trying to be fair and hoping for better next time, it being very local to where we live. Have eaten there twice, the steak is good but that's about it. The small plates are completely tasteless - quite an achievement! Went for drinks there at the weekend and the cheapest wine is about £18 btl - bought several bottles and shorts, spent a fair bit then got kicked out by miserable looking woman who I assume is the manager. She seriously needs to get some people skills. Rude woman snatched the drinks out of punters hands without previous warning. Was amazing would give Basil Fawlty a run for his money!! The Whippet is really not as good as it thinks it is. Need to up their game or people will just not come back.

Looks good, goes down like a sack of s*** unfortunately. The food is disappointing, service is sloooooow and not all that friendly. My friend and I sat at a table for four at 3pm when there was only one other table seated but were asked to move by the waitress (we pointed out that they were dead and said we'd move if they needed the table, busy times, fine but unacceptable when you have two other tables for four, we were also planning on sharing lots of things and the tables for two were tiny). She proceeded to take fifteen minutes to come back to us to take our order, some of that time was spent standing aimlessly at the bar, literally doing nothing, didn't even have the excuse of being distracted by a conversation with someone else… Just about existing was all she could manage to do. Finally came over, probably feeling my friend's stare focussed on her (and my glare)… Couldn't really explain the food menu to us, food came out, it was okay, substandard, made to sound more exciting than it actually was by some fancy and verbose wording on the menu. When our table was cleared with most of the several plates we'd ordered still more than half full, no conversation was made, no questions were asked. This charming experience set us back £71 (four small plates and one drink each - a pint of bitter and a large glass of wine + service which we were too embarrassed to ask to be taken off). All in all, it didn't really seem like the staff wanted to be there, and, less than halfway in, we didn't want to be either.

Appalling selection of beers - not one decent larger. Still got uncomfortable swivel seats. Staff very friendly - manager rude and indifferent. Doesn't beat the chamberlayne which is not setting the bar that high! Kensal rise deserves better!

This place looks really good, I'm definitely going to the opening tomorrow night. The food menu looks really nice with a good selection of drinks to go along with it.
