Dear Lovely folks,

We'd like to invite you to come join us for an evening of food, drinks and merriment, all in honour of a great cause. Kathi has been a dear friend of mine for over 20 years. Having watched her and her family go through such difficulties dealing with Oscars' condition over the many years, like many of her friends, I wanted to help. Oscar has a rare condition which has lead him to spend more time in a hospital then any child should.

After hearing how amazing St Mary's Hospital have been during the what-feels-like-a-lifetime there for Oscar, Kathi & family, I felt it would be amazing to support the hospital so that it could help many more children in the future the way it has done with Oscar. A hospital can be daunting for anyone, let alone a young boy, continuously going in and out of it. As such, its imperative the environment is as welcoming as possible, with the best and latest technology alongside the best staff- so that the children can get the best healthcare during this process. 

As such, I reached out to Kathi and thought it would be a nice way to raise funds to support the hospital by getting some friends together for what has becomes a rare night of merriment for the Leon family in one of the lovely Little Doors. Kathi was one of our first supporters, so we are thrilled to be providing the venue for such a worthwhile cause.

Your generous donation could help us support children like Oscar, who was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anaemia when he was about 14 months old. DBA is an extremely rare blood condition where his bone marrow fails to work properly. Day-to-day you wouldn’t notice much impact, but he had to receive a blood transfusion every three weeks at St Mary’s hospital at PDHU along with other pricks, prodding and frequent treatments and procedures since 2015. However due to the severity of this condition, Oscar was admitted to the Grand Union ward at St Mary’s for a bone marrow transplant in May 2022. 

Subsequently, Oscar had suffered from numerous life-threatening complications. Due to the complications and their treatment, Oscar’s family had to make St Mary’s their temporary home for almost a year. But the conditions are far from ideal. More comfortable facilities and better play equipment would have dramatically improved his experience of being in hospital. “You hope your child is never admitted to hospital but, should they need that expert care, St Mary’s is exactly the place for them to be,” said Kathi and Henry, Oscar’s parents. “Oscar has received outstanding care throughout his time at St Mary’s, but the ward environment and facilities are in desperate need of some love and attention. The absence of simple home comforts has made our situation even harder.” With your kind support, we will be able to provide a wide range of extra help at St Mary’s and make a real difference for thousands of children like Oscar.
