Description

London’s only non-stop live music venue, where in-house musicians take centre stage and only play songs requested by the audience!

Located in a listed Victorian basement, The Piano Works can be found hidden in the heart of Farringdon.

Enter this House of Song, write your music requests on cocktail napkins and hand to your waiter or the musicians to be performed. Drink from a classically strange selection of cocktails and hand selected wines, eat from a steak menu or selection of bar food, tip a human jukebox, sing your heart out and dance to your favourite songs from dusk 'til dawn.

Part bar, part restaurant, part concert, part party.

The audience decides the repertoire in the #HouseofSong!

Drink, Sing, Eat, Dance, and Tip a human jukebox!

My goodness it was just the best fun. We went as a group of three 60 year old ladies as one of my birthday celebrations. We opted for the "bottomless brunch" booked for 12 noon, which consisted of amazing cooked egg bacon etc and as much Prosecco as you can manage. Two pianists began playing and singing our requests and just an hour later they were joined by a great band playing popular tunes which we all enjoyed [even a boogie] Definitely worth a visit!!! visited The Piano Works on 15 Jul 2017

I can't thank piano works enough. We went for brunch for my best friend's stag do and it is such an amazing place. The band are extraordinarily talented and play songs by ear they don't even know on request. It's like having your own personal band for 4 hours and the food is delicious too. I would rush back here for any excuse! You made our day Claire visited The Piano Works on 15 Jul 2017

I was there last year for my birthday and loved it but this year was a disappointment. The music was great but the staff were awful. It was my 30th and I was supposed to get a bottle of bubbly but had to ask 4 times and was sent from person to person who didn't have a clue what they were doing. So, very disappointed. visited The Piano Works on 08 Jul 2017

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback, I’m sorry that you were disappointed with the space that we gave you. As we are a live music venue, we offer minimal seating for our drinks reservations, we encourage all of our guests to be up and dancing around the stage. All of our drinks areas area bases for the evening and we aim to seat 1 in 5, although this is never guaranteed. This is explained to all of our enquiries both before reserving a space and also when we send out the confirmation email. We are more than happy to take requests from our guests if there is a specific space in the venue they would like, our floor team will always try their best to accommodate. Your reservation will also give you and your entire party free and priority entrance, which is the main benefit of reserving a space with us. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to send me an email daisy@pianoworks.bar Best wishes, Daisy

There was a group of 25 of us and the only thing I could say is that at the time of booking they never gave a seating option and we ended up being behind a wall with no view of the stage. There were awesome booth seats available and when we asked to move there the waitress said you had to book it at time of booking. The two ladies working in the bag check area were awesome, the drinks were great and reasonably priced. The atmosphere in the place was awesome. Would recommend to anyone, just make sure you ask to be seated in the main area. visited The Piano Works on 07 Jul 2017

Great atmosphere for a drink, music is good (though they didn't play any of our requests even though we were there for 4 hours). Food is horribly overpriced and service was shocking, we didn't pay the service charge because of it - wandered round for about 10 mins trying to find a waitress and failed (had to ask at the bar who eventually called one over, told us there were no tables available even though we'd booked: eventually found our table but took forever). Starters tasted ok but the vegetarian main is dry as a bone and the dessert was also poor. visited The Piano Works on 07 Jul 2017

A great day out. A surprise event for my other half's birthday I really needed everything to run smoothly. I'd organized to go on the bottomless brunch event. Staff looked after us all very well. All conversations and arrangements prior to the day were handled very well. Constantly contacted by piano works to make sure everything I needed was catered for. The band were brilliant, playing all our requests and creating a great atmosphere. Piano works even arranged for a cake and an extra bottle of processo which was brilliant. A really fun day and would highly recommend to anyone. We will certainly be going back. Thanks for making my girlfriends day so special! visited The Piano Works on 01 Jul 2017

I had asked for a table in view of the stage and was tucked into a corner near a small bar at the back. Also, it was my birthday and was told I'd be provided a cake and a bottle of prosecco for when I arrived but ended up waiting an hour for anything to arrive and after mentioning it at the bar all I got was the prosecco. I'm a big fan of the Piano Works and have other events coming up that I'd plan to book at your bar but this has very much soured the relationship. visited The Piano Works on 20 May 2017

Food was amazing and so was the atmosphere Music was brilliant The place is very charming Aperols were overpriced and not so tasty My friend and I had: 2 starters (bruschetta and carpaccio, which arrived with parmesan on, even thou at time of ordering I had asked whether it came with cheese, and I got told it didn't) 2 mains (steaks, one with peppercorns, the other one with mushroom sauce, we both had sweet potatoes fries and bottomless prosecco) All of this should have costed us £40 per head, instead we were charged £45pp (which I believe the cost of the 3 courses meal) even thou we never ordered the the third course. I appreciate the place is very busy and mistakes can happen Overall the experience was satisfactory visited The Piano Works on 24 Jun 2017

The Piano Works is a fun place, but I would NOT recommend hosting a party there. I booked a table for 15 people, and was given a table for 2. When I complained of this to the manager, he was very unapologetic and basically told me that's just how it is. You can imagine how my 15 guests felt when they arrived and we all had to huddle around a tiny table. To book the table I called 3 weeks in advance and spoke to their reception team to make the booking, and I received a confirmation email confirming that I booked for 15 people, so I don't understand why they thought it was appropriate to provide a tiny table for 2. Anyway, its a fun place, just don't try to host a party there. visited The Piano Works on 24 Jun 2017

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Our drinks areas are a base for the evening. We aim to seat 1 in 5 people as stated in our confirmation email however this is never guaranteed. As a live music venue we encourage people to dance and sing along with the house band. When you reserve a free drinks area you also receive free and priority entry for your entire party. The following is a copy of our confirmation email. Thank you for booking your drinks table at The Piano Works. We are looking forward to welcoming you to the House of Song! Just a few things you need to be aware of before you arrive. We always try to get everyone into the venue as soon as possible and we get really busy on Fridays and Saturday so please allow queuing time if we are full. We offer complimentary & priority entry for up to 1 hour after your original booking time however if you book a table at 9pm you will only receive priority entry until 9.30pm. Door charges are applicable (please check our website) outside of the above. Your drinks table does not provide seating for everyone as it’s only a base for the evening and we encourage you to sing and dance, after all we are the House of Song! We aim to seat 1 in 5 guests (however this is not guaranteed) and the table will be yours for the whole evening. Feel free to contact us at any time if you need to cancel or amend your reservation. If you would like to discuss further, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Kind regards, Nicola

Fantastic bar, there was over 20 of us and the bar staff handled it very well. Did not wait long for bar snacks (10/10 for the food.) The drinks were fairly priced and had a good selection. The Piano Works is an exceptional venue. Take the slightly negative reviews you may see with a pinch of salt (hey... everyone loves a good moan on the internet, right?!). If you're a bit of a quiet soul, don't want the party/party/party experience, or want something more "The Ritz" then this venue probably won't be your thing. But if you want fun and party galore, then give The Piano Works a try :) I've had some horrendous previous experiences with birthday bookings for London venues (sat next to toilets, our area given away last minute etc.) so was understandably very nervous when booking. The Piano Works team were friendly, reassuring, added additional notes to my booking & made sure everything was double confirmed by email. On the actual night of the booking, we needed to amend this to a later time. Again, Piano Works were helpful and extremely accommodating. The night itself couldn't have gone better. Main meal (steaks) were really well cooked, very tasty and there were generous portions. Dessert was fantastic, AND the staff even stuck a cheeky candle in my friends chocolate cake! So thoughtful/cute! The live band were phenomenal and REALLY knew their stuff - and we had a particular soft spot for the trumpet player (Karen) who was sassing/jazzing things up all night long! The band played a very wide mixture of songs, and it was lovely that quite a few of our requests were played. We couldn't catch the band out. They dared to attempt some of our trickier requests! (E.G. Sia - Chandelier; lets see how high the vocalist can go! - then it happened, and was flawless) The staff at Piano Works went out of their way to make this night special for us. Massive thanks go out to Evelina, Issa and Ade who really made our night sparkle. We'll be back! Most probably with a gang of others, haha! For now.... this particular night is a night me and my best friend will remember for years to come, so THANK YOU Piano Works! :) visited The Piano Works on 21 Jun 2017

Amazing when we were finally sat down but when our group arrived on Saturday, I was told that I'd booked just a drinking area whereas when I'd originally booked, I said I wanted to book the bottomless brunch. I'm not sure what happened and eventually they resolved it but I think they need to be clearer when booking, what the person is actually getting. Staff weren't particularly friendly, luckily the band salvaged it. Lauren visited The Piano Works on 24 Jun 2017

Hi Lauren, Thank you for your feedback and for your compliments regarding our musicians. I was one of the team members who spoke to you on the day. I’m glad that we were able to offer your party an alternative table. You had absolutely booked a bottomless brunch, but as I tried to explain on the day this was at a drinking table, you can see the details below “Our Brunch drinking areas are a base for the afternoon (we aim to seat 1 in 5 people but this is not guaranteed). Your party are welcome to enjoy our bottomless drinks packages if they order a minimum food order of a breakfast bap each (veggie options available too!). Your entire group must opt for this. “ This was sent over to you on the 6th April. We also reconfirmed all of these details over the phone on the 22nd June. I apologise that there was some confusion as to what booking type you had, we have since updated our terms and conditions as well as booking description, to clearly lay out the different between a brunch dining table and a brunch drinks area, to avoid this happening again in the future. I hope that as we were able to accommodate the change in reservation on the day, this didn’t put too much of a dampener on your afternoon. Please let me know when you would like to join us again and I would be more than happy to reserve you a Brunch Dining table. All the best, Daisy

The band was great, despite a slightly dodgy attempt at Lose Yourself towards the end that didn't quite work out. The drummer (Tobias) especially was very good throughout! We were a bit disappointed with our table at the beginning as we got in at 9pm for our booking but it wasn't ready until half past. One of the staff actually had a word with my friend asking her not to stand where she was standing, but she was only standing there because the table wasn't ready. Somebody (not from our group) also drunkenly tripped over a table as she ran towards the toilets and knocked some drinks over, which we were able to have replaced after some discussion with one of the staff. We actually had to convince her that it would be the decent thing to do after she originally said she'd have to get the girl who had tripped over to pay for it but she couldn't because she was too drunk(?). Having worked in pubs myself, I didn't think it was a very difficult decision to make. Overall, it wasn't the smoothest night ever but the music and the atmosphere it generates as a result make me see why the place is so popular! With slicker service/general operation, I would definitely have given it five stars. Rakhesh visited The Piano Works on 24 Jun 2017

Thank you very much for taking the time to send us over your feedback. I'm sorry that your night had a bit of a disappointing start, we are incredibly busy and sometimes things can over run slightly. I have spoken to your server on the evening regarding the drinks. It is only our managers who can authorise replacement drinks, I believe your server went to get them immediately to rectify the issue, the manager was actually working up on the door, which is why there was a slight wait. Not your fault and we take full responsibility. I'm glad that you did receive your replacement round of drinks and that you were able to enjoy the rest of your evening. I hope you will come back and see us again soon and give us another change. Please get in touch and I would be delighted to book you a space. All the best, Daisy

Had a goid night here, friendly greeter and attentive waitress, food was plentiful though plain fayre- i had the Lamb & sweet potatoe fries. Drinks definitely flowed with a good assortment of cocktails. Prices £££...a bit steep for the food we had; drink prices were about average for similar bars. Music was great, hats off to the band and they're non stop performances of many varied requested tunes. We would visit again but not for food, a night of drinks and dancing is probably the better option here. visited The Piano Works on 15 Jun 2017

Thank you for your lovely feedback and compliments regarding the band and atmosphere. We would love for you to come back and visit us again, perhaps at 5pm? We have a pre theatre offer so you can enjoy 2 courses for £20 and 3 courses for £30, with a glass of sparkling wine included. On a Thursday, Friday and Saturday we even have the full band on stage from 5pm too! All the best, Daisy

This is one of the best nights out I've had in London. The food was incredible, the staff are really friendly. To get a £50 bottle of wine for £19 is amazing! The music makes you feel like you're in some side alley jazz bar in California in the 40's. perfect date night, you can have a romantic dinner and then get up and dance and let your hair down. Can't recommend it enough to anyone! visited The Piano Works on 14 Jun 2017

Was very excited about attending the Piano Works for the first time, as a celebration of my 21st birthday. The first difficulty I had with the venue, was that I wanted to have a party of 15 people for dinner and then drinks. They said they could not offer me dinner for a party larger than 10, but we could have a drinks table with bar snacks. I accepted that this may be the only option, and still wished to go, so I accepted and booked. I then emailed as saw a small disclaimer on the menu saying the bottomless prosecco (one of our main reasons for going), was only available with a full meal. I emailed the venue to query if we could still receive this, as we did want a full meal but it was them that couldn't accommodate this. They repeatedly said no, even though explained there was a large group of us, that would be spending a lot, and some had traveled far to celebrate my birthday. We arrived, and LUCKILY, some of our party couldn't make it, as the table could only fit 10 people at a push and some of my guests had to stand up. We queried this and they told us that this was their biggest table and wouldn't really accommodate 15 (wish I'd known this before?!). Not to mention the fact that we were behind a large pillar and couldn't actually see the stage, or anything for that matter! Glad I told them it was a special occasion... We were then treated to potentially some of worst service I have received since I moved to London two years ago. The waiter had a difficult language barrier, was rude and blunt to all the guests, sometimes asking us to 'be quiet' when he struggled to slowly jot down the order. We complained on the night and were given some prosecco as compensation, but I just do not feel that this was enough for such a poor experience, combined with poor service. visited The Piano Works on 03 Jun 2017

Hi Angharad. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I spoke to with you the run up to your party and responded to your request for bottomless prosecco with your drinks area. As mentioned at the time, our bottomless drinks packages are only available when dining as we strongly promote responsible drinking. This is also stated on our website “The bottomless prosecco package is available every day for £15 per person with any brunch or dinner sitting. Immerse yourself in bubbles whilst feasting!” I also explained that our Saturdays are very busy and our dinner sittings can get booked up to 6 weeks in advance. We did offer a table for 10 for dinner which was the last large table we had available but as you commented your party was a group of 15 at the time of booking which later dropped to 10 people. You had a booth reserved on the evening which is very unusual for a party of 10/15 people as our policy for drinks areas is to aim to seat 1 in 5 people. Our booths seat 8 to 10 people which means the majority if not all of your booking were seated on the evening and with your reservation you also received priority and free entry for your group. Our seating policy is explained in our terms and conditions. As a live music venue, we encourage our guests to dance and sing which is why we never offer seating for everyone unless you are dining. With regards to your comments about the service you received I would be more than happy to raise this with the bar and restaurant manager. It would be helpful if you could provide descriptions of the people who served you so that we can look into this for you. Please feel free to get in touch on nicola@pianoworks.bar Kind regards, Nicola

Thank you for leaving your feedback. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your visit. The musicians were unbelievable (big shout out to the pianist who rocked Express Yourself by NWA on my request!). My waiter was really helpful, but I was incredibly offended and surprised by the floor staff and the manager in particular. We had reserved a table for drinks and upon arrival found there were not enough chairs, and were told that as a policy it's 1 chair for 5 people in a drinks section (this is on the email but I had not been told about it when booking over the phone - which is ridiculous. That is the most important time to be told. It's also a silly policy.) Forgiving this slip I asked if we could get extra seats, and when the floor manager couldn't help she went to get the overall manager. I can honestly say I never been treated so rudely and with such a lack of respect by anyone in a customer-facing role. We were a group of 7 on a business night out, we were planning on spending loads on food and drink and all we wanted was a seat, which seemed to personally offend the manager. Furthermore, we were told we could not get food between 7-9 and that that information was on the email confirmation - it was not. Our waiter tried to accommodate us as best he could, but we were unable to order until after 9.15 (which was late for a hungry bunch of us!). Perhaps that was just a policy for the evening because of the big group eating there, but it is a ridiculous policy! We will be coming back, because the music was so good but we will not be eating or drinking there ever again. visited The Piano Works on 07 Jun 2017

Hi Anna, Thank you for taking the time to send over your feedback. I believe I spoke to you on the evening, I tried to explain that our drinks areas are bases for the evening and we only aim to seat 1 in 5. This is explained to all of our enquiries before they confirm their reservations, I can see we sent you the below message on the 6th June at 11.28am; “All our drinking areas are a base for the evening (we aim to seat 1 in 5 people but this is not a guarantee and are free of charge however we do require your card details in order to confirm your booking. Please note that no charges will be made & we only charge your credit card in case of no show or a 20% drop in numbers (£5 per person). All booking amendments and cancellations must be done no less than 24 hours prior to the booking.” You then called us and left your card details to confirm your reservation. As you can see, the email above clearly states that we only aim to seat 1 in 5. Therefore, you would have been completely aware that this was our policy both before leaving your card details and also on arrival as this is repeated in the T&CS laid out in your confirmation email. I went to chat to our floor manager to see if there was anything we could do for your party. I then offered you a brand new space in the venue and offered to add 7 chairs (so that all of our guests could be seated, as you requested). You then said not to worry and you would keep the space you already had and thanked me for looking. We are a live music party venue and encourage all of our guests to be up and dancing around the stage. All of our guests are treated exactly the same and we follow the exact same policies regardless of occasion or money spent on the evening. Our bar food does freeze on busier evenings between 7pm and 9pm, this is so that we can focus on the large amount of dinner reservations booked in. On the night you visited we had 3 large dinner groups booked in for our 7pm sitting, so we made the decision to freeze the bar food in order to accommodate this. This was a decision that was made on the evening which is why you would not have been warned about this prior to your reservation. I’m glad that you enjoyed our concept and our musicians, earlier in the week (Mondays and Tuesdays) may be more suitable for your party as often on our quieter nights we are able to offer additional seating and our bar food very rarely freezes between 7pm and 9pm. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss further. Best wishes, Daisy

Really fun night. Staff are attentive and the live music is really energetic and impressive. It's a shame that we could not have differing numbers of courses because we had a large group with varying appetites and some wanted dessert and some didn't. It was made quite clear from the beginning that we could all only have 2 courses or 3 courses and in the end it was likely possible for people who wanted one to have a dessert at the end. Otherwise, the drinks service was very good and the overall entertainment and service should be commended. A great night for a hen do! visited The Piano Works on 03 Jun 2017

I wanted to give it a 5 but couldn't... we booked for the 7pm-9pm slot, the waitress didn't take our full food order so decided to choose a starter for my friend that she didn't want, when we asked our waitress to take the starter back she said her manager would moan at her as she already started her shift 2 hours late. I don't think she understood that she should have asked us what we wanted instead of deciding for us and then trying to make us feel bad for her mistake. Our mains arrived super late, the dessert two of us ordered was a tiramisu but instead we got some sort of coconut and pineapple trifle. When we told one of the waiters we got the wrong dessert He told us that it was in fact a version of their tiramisu. They supposedly adapted it as their customers complained about not being able to sleep after having a caffeinated dessert haha!!!!! How about tell us this when we ordered our dessert. We were then told very nicely to pay up and leave our booth as our time was up... even though the food was late and the order was wrong. I would say that the experience of the live music and atmosphere is great but do not bother eating there. The service was shoddy. visited The Piano Works on 02 Jun 2017

Music and seating to close, so loud you cant speak to eachother on the table. very annoying when you have a table of 10! Food was good cant complain and the drinks were flowing. General manager wasnt helpful in the slightest and must of had a bad day the night before (hopefully she isnt always like that).... seemed to really detest men too, very happy to make it clear that she was a female general manager and she should get more respect because of that (weird as i forgot we lived in the 1950's). visited The Piano Works on 28 May 2017

I was slightly let down as we didn't get the table until 2:20 but still had to be off the table at 4pm, we were given a couple of bottles of prosecco to stand at the bar with. However, we didn't receive the food until very late and were very rushed in eating this. I was given a cake for my birthday but we were told there wasn't enough time to eat the cake. It was all just very rushed. Slightly disappointed as it was for my birthday and I've been to piano works a few times. I just think that organisation needs to be improved at the bar. We booked a drinks area about a month in advance for a special occasion, but had never been here before, so didn't know the layout. We were around the back so we couldn't see any of the band play. The bartender wouldn't let us pay our bill as we went, which then led to complications later in the evening, when the place was really busy and we had a large bill to sort out. Not impressed by the security guards "trying it on" with multiple girls on the dance floor. Overall not very nice vibe and too busy - would not recommend a Saturday night. visited The Piano Works on 20 May 2017

Thank you for sending us over your feedback. We can never guarantee areas in the venue without a minimum spend or a deposit, but we are always more than happy to take requests (a good view of the stage for example). When we are allocating tables we take all of these requests into account. If any of our enquiries have never been to our venue before we are always more than happy to show our guests around the venue before their event so that they can get a better idea of the layout. I'm sorry that you felt a Saturday night wasn't the best night for you, I can assure you that all of our team, security included, take their roles in the venue and the wellbeing of our guests seriously. I booked my area a couple of months in advance and asked for a booth. The lady mentioned a booth was only available from 9pm not my requested time of 8pm. I wanted the booth so went for the later time. Sadly when I got there I did not have a booth I had a tiny table in the middle of the dancefloor with two chairs which for 15 people was a bit of a joke. They say in the terms and conditions it may not be seating for all 100% of guests but seating for 2 out of 15 was certainly not as advertised. Sadly the place was like a club with live music rather than a piano bar and it was extremely loud. I must say the GM was helpful with a separate issue but there really was little point in me booking an area. We actually all left after an hour cos it got too tight. Potential to be more but sadly it didn't meet expectations. visited The Piano Works on 19 May 2017

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We don’t reserve tables for drinks between 8pm & 9pm due to our busy dinner service and we can never guarantee a particular area unless the customer has paid a deposit & has agreed to a minimum spend. We do however take area requests and do our best to accommodate however this is not always possible. When you reserve an area free of charge with free & priority entry we aim to seat 1 in 5 guests as stated in our terms and conditions. As a live music venue we find our customers prefer to have more space to dance and are very rarely seated. If you visit on a Monday we have 2 pianists playing for the duration of the evening however for the rest of the week we provide a party atmosphere with our full band accompanying our pianists. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss further – hello@pianoworks.bar Best wishes, Emily

Nice place, but the music wasn't of great standard when we visited... I expected this to be a professional music performance, but it rather felt like some party entertainment, with super cheesy songs chosen by the audience. Our expectations were different, we expected a quiet performance where people would appreciate the music, but it feels more like a typical bar where people come to drink and goof around...

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. At The Piano Works all of the songs that are played are songs requested by the audience, we are a party venue & fully encourage all our guests to request songs, dance and sing along with our full 6 piece band. If you are looking for more of a relaxed atmosphere I would recommend visiting us on a Monday evening where we have two pianists playing for the duration of the evening. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss further – helllo@painoworks.bar. We hope to see you again soon. All the best, Emily

I reserved a seated/standing area but did expect more than 4 seats for the booking of 15 I made so that was a little disappointing. There were constantly staff wandering around doing not very much - didn't speed up the 30min wait I had at the bar for drinks. I then had to wait as my barman stopped 2 or 3 times mid way through making 2 cocktails to go and talk to his colleague. The musicians were good but none of my party was convinced that the play list was great for a Friday at 7:30pm - 'Hello' by Adele - not known as being a dance floor filler. Honestly, give this place a miss, head into the West End of Shoreditch/Hoxton. visited The Piano Works on 12 May 2017

Thank you for sending us over your feedback. All of our drinks areas are just bases for the evening and we aim to seat 1 in 5 (although this isn't a guarantee). All of our guests are made aware of this before they confirm their reservation and it is then reiterated again in the terms and conditions. We are a party venue and encourage all of our guests to be up and dancing rather than sitting down at tables which is why we only offer minimal seating. We are a request based music venue and our musicians only play songs requested by the audience. There are some songs which can only be played to their full potential when there is a full band on stage. There are only two pianists on stage at this time as we want to keep the atmosphere appropriate for our guests who are dining. We have a specific team members designated to our bar and our floor, i can assure you that no member of our team would be walking around doing nothing or prolonging your wait at the bar on purpose. I hope that your negative experiences didn't put too much of a dampener on your evening. If you would like to discuss further please do get in touch with us via hello@pianowork.bar. The Piano Works is always a fantastic venue with brilliant staff, great live music and a wonderful atmosphere. The food was surprisingly good given that you're eating dinner on the dance floor. We had a 7-9pm sitting for a large party and it was quite crowded. The servers were fantastic at getting to us and looking after us but it was a tough job for them at that hour and they seemed quite stressed out. They also kept trying to clear our plates and glasses before we'd finished, I think in an effort to get us up and out of the way as quickly as possible. Despite that, we had a fantastic time and the music as always was utterly brilliant, and the food really was delicious. Perhaps request a table off to the side in future. visited The Piano Works on 13 May 2017

Thank you for your compliments regarding the food & our servers, we will be sure to pass your compliments on to everyone who looked after you on the evening. As a live music venue we like to encourage people to dance, sing, party and generally have a great evening. Up until 8.30pm we do have two pianists on stage rather than the full band as we do want to make sure all of our dinner reservations are comfortable. However, dining with live music is what we are all about. Glad to hear you would like to join us again in the future, we will be more than happy to allocate you to a less crowded space so you can enjoy another evening with us. Best wishes, The Piano Works

We went here on a Friday for my boyfriends 30th birthday. It was an unforgettable night! We had our own table where we were given our own waitress whom was attentive and always there when we needed a drink. The atmosphere was great and the live music was phenomenal! The venue is great for birthdays as they got all the birthday people up whom were sung to by the band and they also got banners with their name on it where they all lined up and were made to feel special! Definitely a place I would reccomend!! Thank you Piano Works! We will be back again for sure! visited The Piano Works on 12 May 2017

Not good actually. I've been a few times but never on a Monday. The information on the website was not clear that the music on Mondays would only be slow, mellow versions of any songs requested. There weren't a lot of people in, but out of those who were there, quite a lot wanted to dance and asked for more upbeat music. However the pianists playing on the night weren't able (or willing?) to play any other styles. My £10 tip was rather wasted as they said they didn't know 3 of the 5 songs I requested and played the other 2 too slow and without any rhythm for anyone to be able to dance. One of them was UB40's Red Red Wine, which is slow anyway, but they slowed it down further and played it with a different beat! visited The Piano Works on 08 May 2017

Reply from The Piano Works

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are sorry if you found the information on our website misleading. On Mondays we have two pianists on stage, they are encouraged to ensure they can play songs to their best potential, some songs are better delivered with a backing of a full band. Our musicians have a wide repertoire unfortunately there are some song they do not know. We do keep all of the napkin requests which are audited & we are constantly encouraging our musicians to learn new & frequently requested songs. I hope that the more mellow atmosphere did not put too much of a dampener on your evening, we would be delighted to book you a table on an evening when are full 6 piece band are playing. It was my birthday, I put my friends on a friends list to be in between 8-9pm for a less admission. I have discussed this with the lady I got the booking with, she said they need to be at Pianoworks by 9pm. My friend who got there at 8.15pm had to wait 20 mins. to get it, my friends who got in at 8.35pm would have to wait for about 1hour to get in. I went upstairs at around 9pm to see what is happening, I was told my friends simply have to wait and when they eventually get in waiting in the 100ppl queue they have to pay full admission price. This is bear in mind, the full was already completely packed at 9pm so I have no idea what it would be like at 10pm or later. So we picked up our bags and went somewhere else. I will not go to Pianoworks anytime in a near future again. visited The Piano Works on 06 May 2017

I am sorry to hear that you did not hear any of your requests on the night however our musicians do receive a very high volume of requests and this is why we recommed leaving a tip so that your choices are pushed to the top. We do a shout our for all pre wedding parties & birthday celebrations and everyone is called to the front of the stage at the same time rather than individually for this so apologies if there was any misunderstanding. I'm very disappointed to say that I will not be returning, which is a shame as my boyfriend and I love it there. We booked dinner and without going into too much detail, the GM on that night was so rude and passively aggressively that he actually made me cry just because i said my food was cold, which it was. I will be emailing my comment to the venue as I do hope no one else is put off as It really is a fun place, usually. visited The Piano Works on 05 May 2017

Hi Vicky. We have received your email and have responded however for the purpose of this review I have copied our restaurant managers response below: "The new butternut squash that was prepared for you was made from scratch and was absolutely not placed into the microwave. It was probed to ensure that the core temperature was over 75 degrees, in compliance with food regulations. The reason behind your partner's food being hotter to yours, is most likely because the rib eye is cooked and served whole, and fresh off the grill, in comparison to the butternut squash which is cut open to fill with couscous and served. For that reason, the temperature is more likely to drop. In spite of this, you were not charged for either of the vegetarian main options we had prepared for you, as a gesture of goodwill." Really loved this place beforehand but they let me down on my birthday. Reserved an area for 10 people, I was told I'd be charged £5 for each member of my party not to arrive. When we got there, I had been reserved a bar square table with 3 stools. Two thirds of my party had to stand up, even whilst we were eating. There were plenty of booths there so no idea why I was allocated this spot. Manager was disinterested and said it's only a base. I know it said not all of my party could be guaranteed a seat but 3 out of 10 is ridiculous. A warning on this would have been appreciated especially on a special day for me. Really disappointed and let down by this. I'd been telling all my friends how great this place was so they were seriously disappointed in the hospitality!

Thanks for your review! Our drink tables are mainly a standing area and only suitable for nibbles and snacks. We do explain it very clearly on our terms and conditions. We only charge £5 if your entire party doesn't show up. We are very sorry to have let you down, please get in touch and I'd like to resolve this. alex@pianoworks.bar Thanks, Alex

This is a really nice place (nice atmosphere, decoration, staff) and I really loved the concept of the on-demand music. But there were two problems. I went midweek and so there were no many people in the place (not even 10% of capacity) so we were happy that our songs will be picked. Unfortunately, the band goes through the demands and only pick what they want (or know maybe).. so if you were going there to listen to what you want; thats not the place. The second problem is that the band will pick horrible songs. When I was there songs for Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift were played, they even played "Baby one more time" for Britney Spears. Thats the kind of songs they will pick. Of course there were some good songs but 85% of the songs were horrible. I have nothing against these songs, but what it is not what it is advertised "smoking jazz lounges". So the venue is really nice, but big NO for the music.

I went here on Saturday night for my 30th birthday and it is a really great bar/restaurant, with amazing music and is a great concept. However I would agree with previous reviewers in terms of the hassle. Unfortunately we were unable to book a table (called 2 weeks in advance and still there were none!) so we just went on the Friends List and I was told there's plenty of spare seating/places to perch. Some of my party were arriving separately and they had to argue their way in as the door staff were quite rude, not bothering to check my name was on the list because I didn't have a table. There was very little unbooked space for us to stand/sit at which was difficult with drinks etc so if you're a big group, definitely book! We arrived in happy hour, too, to make the most of the offers, but I was not allowed to buy more than one bottle of wine at once because my 'party wasn't big enough' even though more were coming later and frankly, I'm old enough to know how many drinks I'd like to order! I've never had that in another bar and was really shocked that they were allowed to stop us. It's also like a sauna in there - a few of my friends left early as they just couldn't take it any more. We absolutely loved the music though and it's a huge space - I'd just not go without booking a table next time, and simply hope the staff were just having an off day...

Piano Works has a cool concept and the potential is there for this place to be really fun. The band were good, playing an eclectic mix of requests and creating a fun atmosphere with their crowd interaction, and if you're heading here with a decent crowd of mates, you're going to have a really fun night. There are a couple of things that need working on though - getting in was a hassle, staff were a little short with some members of our party and it was seriously packed; obviously it's going to be busy at Christmas time but the venue was uncomfortably rammed at about 9pm. I appreciate the venue is still new and if they can iron out these teething problems, I'll definitely come back.

Recently spent over £800 on tickets for nye at this venue, Sadly one of my friends has recently lost his mum and is now unable to attend, Piano works has refused to refund us for this ticket and would not consider cancelling the ticket and leaving the value on account for use to spend on the night. I appreciate the tickets are non refundable on the terms and conditions but I feel that an allowance could have been made on this occasion as this is such a bad way to start 16 peoples experience.

Really enjoyed a couple of hours here, A few drinks with good friends listening to live music having a dance and good drinks, Was busy but comfortably so for a Friday night, minimum wait for drink. Really friendly staff. Dancing started early which always leads to a good night. Music being request driven lead to eclectic fun for all :)

Cool yet simple concept - a band that only play your requests. Arrive early to hear your tune boom out through the speakers cause this place is known for getting busy come the pm. Cocktails are their speciality - would recommend the Porn Star Martini or their Almond and Hazelnut Sour.
