Capturing the real essence of retro, Coin Laundry successfully creates an old-school ambience with a strong emphasis on the seventies. Nestled in Exmouth Market, this swinging saloon complete with kitsch knick-knacks showcases tipples and scrum to suit the old and young alike.

Split over two floors, this all-day, character-crammed restaurant aims to create a common room concept downstairs, which plays host to a whole bunch of creative events, from book clubs to board game and pop-up shop spaces. Atop the main level, you'll guzzle away on retro cocktails with modern twists - the Grasshopper and Snowball are the real crowd-pleasers.

Whether nostalgic for your heyday eats or eager to gobble up some gourmet grub, Coin Laundry has hit the culinary nail on the head with an exciting assortment of accurate, flavourful plates of the bygone decades. Chow down on the staple 70s Chicken Kiev, a rich Rabbit Balti Pie or a succulent Cauliflower Cheese Steak, not to mention the Beef Jerky and Prawn Cocktail classic.

Brocolli tasted of ash. Only 1 dessert available - bread and butter pudding - strange tang and very heavy and stodgy. Tables at side too close together - neighbours long hair almost in my dinner. Chicken Kiev and cauliflower cheese good. visited Coin Laundry on 10 Dec 2016

It's a shame it wasn't that busy when we visited on Wednesday. There's a small wine list but we found a lovely NZ Sauvignon Blanc. The bar snacks were a little eclectic, some nuts and olives would be a great addition and still be in 70s feel. Our waiter was great and attentive, waitress less so. There was a classic moment when she brought our wine unopened and stuck it in the wine bucket without serving it. I enquired (slightly sarcastically) if we should serve ourselves, she said "oh yes, I always pour the wrong amount in the glass". Brilliant. You had one job.... visited Coin Laundry on 16 Nov 2016

Nice relaxed atmosphere with a good menu. Food was great but service, albeit polite and friendly, was slow. Two cans of fizzy drinks took over 20 minutes to be brought to the table and there was quite a wait on the food even though it wasn't that busy. visited Coin Laundry on 20 Oct 2016

This is our HQ before going to events at Sadler's Wells. The service is always excellent. We usually have something to eat, and the food is tasty, and good value. Love the place! Stephen visited Coin Laundry on 28 Sep 2016

My friend and I had scoured London for a venue to host our joint party. It was a big one and we had people coming from all over the UK. It needed to be special. Coin Laundry delivered on every level. Firstly, it's just a cool looking venue with an awesome fun vibe and quirky touches that make it stand out from the average bar. From the start of the process the management made us feel completely at ease. There was no attempt to push us into anything we didn't want - just a desire to make sure we had the best time possible. They were always available to answer questions and advise in the run-up to the party and we always felt we were in safe hands. On the night itself we'd hired the big downstairs room. Everything we'd asked for was organised to perfection. The staff were sensational from start to finish and looked like they were glad to be there. The food - which for us was an after-thought - was amazing and our guests made a point of commenting on it. We had our own playlist but CL had phenomenal options if we'd wanted to go a different way. It truly was one of the best nights we've ever had and the support we had from the bar was hugely significant. Desperate to go back. May have to call designmynight and tell them to get more stars as five isn't enough!

I don't normally write reviews and things but felt compelled after the night my fiance and I had for our engagement celebrations with our friends. The guys at Coin Laundry were exceptionally attentive, from booking an area to when we got there, helping us serve out Prosecco to our guests as they arrived and making everyone feel welcome. Almost all of our friends commented on how awesome the space was downstairs - clean, unpretentious, wickedly retro and reasonably priced drinks and food. Very well picked beer selection and good cocktails. Also, someone chose the spag bol croquettes as they wanted a quick snack and we ended up ordering another 4 portions at least if I'm not mistaken because they were so good! Highly recommend this place Leslie visited Coin Laundry on 06 Feb 2016

Loved it, smart, sharp and unpretentious service, great selection of beers, food was great for a quick bite. I'll be back for more Kievs. After having dinner we crept downstairs to the bar where a DJ was spinning done cracking disco, not many places in Clerkenwell are good on a weekend that aren't Fabric overflow. The epitome of an appalling restaurant. £9 for a chopped salad just about a side. Out of burgers on a Saturday night? Interior at odds with 'retro' theme. Curry sauce tasty, chips the cheapest frozen variety, tomato soup-out of a tin. 1 stick of branded gum for a table of 5 on the bill!

We came for a pre-Sadler's Wells meal for my Mum's 60th birthday. I thought the retro British food would remind Her of her youth! She enjoyed it with the snowball cocktail, chicken Kiev and banana boat with a sparkler to finish. The staff were great - thanks! Lorraine visited Coin Laundry on 09 Jan 2016

We came in for Christmas dinner in a group of 15. The most disappointing thing was that all of the draught lager was down, only small cans available. And service was slightly slow and muddled. The food was a bit hit and miss, starters not great but the mains were lovely (I had the beer can chicken), then the dessert, most of us had profiteroles and the pastry was burnt and shouldn't have been served. There was a slight lack of atmosphere in the place but I put that down to it being new and on a Sunday. The concept is great and it definitely has potential, will hopefully improve over time. hannahlmoore visited Coin Laundry on 20 Dec 2015

The best thing were the staff who were friendly and professional. The cocktails were great and wine choice very good. Cockle popcorn was a triumph. Coin Laundry prides itself on its chicken Kievs ...sadly in my party these all were quite dry. I love chicken them...and was sadly disappointed. The cheesy veg was also quite hard and could have done with a blanching prior cooking. I would try again and hope it improves...great concept. ryryry visited Coin Laundry on 12 Dec 2015

We were a party of 24 and they confirmed that they had space for us, unfortunately when we arrived we only had a space for 8 people. This reflected poorly on me as I was organising the event. The food was disgusting, the egg and waffle bap was dry and appeared to have been reheated. We spent over a grand on the bar despite the staff being very slow. This is a shame as we are a big business located around the corner. To add to the night you can smell sewage downstairs. great selection of drinks however.
