Description

Ping Pong is a contemporary and lively restaurant in the heart of Covent Garden serving up a hearty selection of dim sum, cocktails and Chinese teas.

Dim Sum is prepared as small bite-sized food, steamed to perfection and served alongside fried, rice and griddled dishes. An ideal choice for a quick, light lunch or a fun night out - as they say, all the fun is in the sharing, which Ping Pong encourages.

Great food, some was a little cold, nice atmosphere. The ordering system of the slips of paper doesnt work too well with large groups (4+) if you go I would reccomend asking for multiple sheets, We had a group of 7 so had 4 people on one sheet 3 on the other and it worked better. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 17 Feb 2017

Food was nice but the tables are put far too close together unfortunately which means that you might as well join in with your neighbours conversation an forget talking about anything privately. Won't be going back to that branch. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 18 Feb 2017

Food and drinks were amazing! Location is excellent, service started out really really good then as soon as we had our food the service went down hill. Waited for half an hour for a drink after dinner and didn't attend our table at all until we asked three times. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 18 Feb 2017

We went to ping pong Covent Garden on the 14th Feb, although the restaurant felt very cramped the food was great, sadly there must of been an error with my bill which was when me and my wife worked out after leaving about 30 pounds overcharged. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 14 Feb 2017

The dumplings were good... We booked online which came with two free cocktails, you don't get a choice and they tasted like soap. We ordered the set meal for 2 which is more than double the price of the set meal for one but the quantities were confusing. The food arrived served in 3's, 3 spring rolls, 3 dumplings, but the meal was for 2, it didn't feel like good value for money. Had the food been special in flavour it would have trumped the odd portions but it wasn't, it didn't taste fresh. Then there was the paying, the restaurant offers a student discount so we showed our id's but were told that because we had free drinks with our booking we couldn't have it. They then suggested that we could have the discount but only if we paid for the free drinks.... It was valentines day and it just felt like Ping Pong wanted to trick us every step of the way. Hook us in with free drinks, offer odd portions of ok food and then disappoint all for £40. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 14 Feb 2017

Ordered 1 squid which came cold. The waiter did well and changed it quickly. However, she tried to deceive us with the bill, came up to us and said she'd knocked the price of the squid off as a gesture of goodwill. But the bill said 2 lots of squid has been purchased. When I brought this up with the waiter she said that there was actually no discount. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 14 Feb 2017

Nice food, but service, seating and table planning really poor. Despite having reserved, the waitress led us past several available tables for 2 on the ground floor to take us down into the basement. When I asked if we could have one of the vacant tables for two on the ground floor (hate not having windows) - I received a load of blarney ("big parties expected" - but it's an isolated table for 2? - "they are taken" - but they are vacant etc. etc.) Then they resentfully put me and my 13 yr old daughter on what was essentially a table for 4 with a couple who were already sat down on the other two seats trying to have a romantic dinner. they were nice people but I, and clearly they also felt we were encroaching. Meanwhile the tables for two remained unoccupied and I saw several people go through the same experience as us. when you come to order there is a gimmicky system of ticking a paper menu. Don't think you can get round this by just asking the waitress - you'll be given short shrift to fill in the paper tick boxes on the menu. Not big deal but really...? If its so important is it that hard for the waitress to do it on your behalf. So in short - if you like good food and don't mind staff who don't give a damn what the customer wants, or who like to run the place their way and expect the customer to fit in with their preferences then this is the place for you. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 11 Feb 2017

Our visit to ping ping was lovely. However I don't agree with the waitresses advice on ordering 4-5 dishes per person. We followed the advice and ordered 4 dishes each, this was far too much food! It felt very wasteful and a bit of a waste of money. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 03 Feb 2017

Positives: service, attention, atmosphere and majority of dim sum. Cons: mushroom & spinach dim sum which was nothing special and the chocolate fondant dessert which tasted like Tesco's cheap tasting pudding but at a rather hiked price tag. The other reason I only gave 4 stars is because they did not have any more Cherry Mascarpone special which I was really looking forward to. Overall, it was a good evening out but rather pricey, so next time might stick to their Meal for 1 or 2 people etc. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 03 Feb 2017

Service felt a little rushed occasionaly, and would be nice if the rice where actual rice bowls rather than small balls wrapped in banana leaf. Food and staff service were very good. I did a pre booking and i was promised a separate area though to share with other people. I did not think sharing a separate area meant sitting in the reataurant. Arrived early and was sent to the bar for a drink and was promptly forgotten. When we were eventually seated at our table after chasing the staff down, we found that all of the tables were placed extremely close to one another (less than 6 inches apart). very poor service. told on arrival at 7.30 PM we needed to order any food we wanted within 15 minutes as they wanted to close the kitchen. half way through our meal we were told we need to order any further drinks now as they wanted to close the bar. we were hurried out of the restaurant before 9.00 pm so that they could shut early - even though our booking was until 9.30. No greeting on arrival no thanks on departure - would not go again. ended up being an expensive meal squeezed into just over an hour at our table. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 09 Jan 2017

food was alright, nothing special, and lack of varieties. Unattentive service, we were at a corner and when any of the waiting staff were attending the opposite table, they wouldn't turn around and look at us see if we need anything, we had to wait over 20 minutes to ask for a glass of water and another 20 minutes to order more food. the food quality and experience doesn't pay out for the amount we paid in the end. much rather go to yauatcha or other established chinese restaurant for a better dining experience visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 08 Jan 2017

Was disappointed with the service - ordered additional sauces, which didn't arrive. Also ordered a drink (twice) which never made it to the table. Finally, after waiting for a dish for 30 mins, we chased, only to be told that they had run out - this was never communicated and was really frustrating. However, this was rectified by management v. professionally. And the food was really good. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 01 Jan 2017

Atmosphere seemed a bit frantic despite the branch not being very busy. The waiter forgot to order 1 meal in my party so we didnt end up eating together. No offer of even a free cocktail to make up for the error either! Quite often had to try and flag someone down for assistance as they didnt check on us periodically. Overall I'd say it wasnt as good as the Southbank branch which is the one I use regularly. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 17 Dec 2016

Food was lovely as usual, service was a bit slow but it was very busy with Christmas parties, so understandable. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the veggies were well catered for with food of the same standard as everyone else. The meat and seafood Christmas menu was our choice and was great value at £26.99 a head, plus a free cocktail each for our early booking. lesleym visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 15 Dec 2016

Understandably there will be teething problems as this branch of the restaurant is newly opened. However I was disappointed with our visit - There was a large group of us, many never having been and we had to ask twice to have the menu explained. Our order was then confused and we continued to receive numerous different elements continually throughout our meal, which we hadn't ordered. Although items often come out staggered there was a period when two of our table had not received any of their main but all others had finished theirs. We then had to ask twice for missing elements from the set menu. The staff however was understanding and kindly took wine off our menu, however overall I felt very let down and this would put me off returning. Allana visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 03 Dec 2016

Pretty average food and for the price I expected more food and a wider selection of it.. next time I'll be heading into the Chinese quarter for a more authentic meal. the fact that each meal came out with a sticker on the side of the box felt like a fast food chain of restaurants.. not enough personal touches to the service. I love Ping Pong and go fairly regularly. This trip was as expected, food and service were great and everyone had a fantastic time. However although the evening started well it declined towards the end and when we ordered a few extra bits for the table and another round of drinks the wait for these was in excess of 30 minutes. Loved this restaurant! Have been to Pung Pong in Soho and Southbank so knew what to expect but this was my favourite of the three. Brilliantly located just off the main square in Covent Garden, the food was excellent and the service brilliant. For those who haven't been before it offers a wide variety of dim sum and some excellent puddings, like the chocolate fondant with ice cream. There are also cocktails on offer or opt for some Prosecco, you won't be disappointed with either. And it's all really good value for money. This was my first visit to the Ping Pong Covent Garden (I usually go to the Soho branch). I found the same - very high - quality of food and presentation I am now used to from Ping Pong; I was also very impressed by the internal appearance of the restaurant, particularly the lighting, which was both discreet and effective. As I usually dine on my own, the human 'vibe' of a restaurant is very important to me; and I must say I felt very welcome and looked after by the friendly staff (I note that there was a very good-natured atmosphere emanating from the other groups of diners as well, so I clearly wasn't the only one having a good time). My only negative comment would concern the washrooms in the basement. I felt that the signage was not visible enough, and the way to get there was quite a maze (I also found it difficult to navigate my way back to the main part of the restaurant). However, all in all I was delighted by my experience, and look forward to eating there again. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 06 Nov 2016

Great food and fantastic service. They catered to my girlfriend's peanut allergy with the utmost professionalism. Only downside I would say is the cost of 3 dumplings is a bit steep, knowing you're most likely to share between two, should sell in 4s! Arrived at 8:25 for an 8:30 booking and was not seated until 8:55. Table for two was in a cramped corner, neighbouring table was uncomfortably close. Lots of what looked like fruit flies flying around and as we waited for the bill at the end of the meal, noticed that the wall beside us was covered in small flies. We counted 14 at one point. The food was excellent and the team was very polite. However, we ordered two cocktails at the beginning of the evening before ordering food. The cocktails arrived after we had finished eating, which was disappointing. I had selected a deal with free cocktails, but we were charged for them in the bill. Not upto usual Ping Pong standard. Tables so close together you essentially have to climb to your seat and get engulfed in others conversations. Waiter had poor grasp of English and had to ask for water on 4 occasions and took 5 attempts to get the correct bill for the table (charged for items we didn't have) Avoid and head to one of their other locations visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 12 Oct 2016

Disappointed with menu and had to push to get a half decent table. Staff pleasant and helpful otherwise. So called discretionary service charge of 12.5% factored into bill without consultation - what's discretionary about that? Earlier experiences in Bread st Restaurant 1.5 yrs ago were misleading it seems. visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 12 Oct 2016

Overall good, relaxed and friendly staff but service was a bit slow and their were items once ordered that were forgotten and we had to remind the waitress. Overall lovely food and lovely place visited Ping Pong Covent Garden on 09 Oct 2016

I honestly haven't been in any restaurant with such great atmosphere. I had a wonderful waitress I think her name was Safire or Sapha? She was just so upbeat and excited to talk to me I felt so welcomed .Also another young man with light blue eyes was so pleasant and caring towards my husband and I. He kept checking on us. The food was outstanding ,I've had a great experience overall :) would definitely recommend.

Superb evening with the girls from Work. Our Lithuanian waitress was attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and guided us first timers through the menu superbly! We will be back for more... and more!
