Ask For Janice is a dynamic restaurant and bar located close to Barbican and Farringdon stations. Step off Long Lane to encounter a bright and breezy restaurant area, filled with contemporary art from the likes of Kid Acne and Damien Hirst. There's room for 70 covers (seated), who tuck into scrumptious grub from breakfast right through til night. The venue lays on a spread of pastries and heartier breakfasts in the morning, fresh & light lunches and a choice of larger plates once dinner time rolls around.

This atmospheric bar & kitchen is really only half the story though. Locate the secluded speakeasy style basement bar - hidden behind a non-descript door - and you're in for a real treat. It's smaller than the main bar and the dark, atmospheric vibe is noticeably different to upstairs. You'll have the chance to pick between a really strong spread of 60+ draft & bottled beers and over 40 gins, and every glass of wine is priced the same so there's no need to base your choice on cost. A bustling and eclectic music policy is the one constant throughout the venue.

Ask for Janice is my favourite place in London: the staff are friendly, the gins are plentiful, it's cozy and not too loud, and I love love the haddock rice balls. visited Ask For Janice on 17 Oct 2016

We had a booking for 30 and we had a lovely evening, but it was a shame that an error was made on the night and our space was almost completely given away, and we had to fight for it back. They were apologetic, but only after trying to blame us for the mistake. visited Ask For Janice on 13 Oct 2016

I reserved an area for eight on Friday night for drinks. I booked it with very short notice so was very grateful when it was confirmed. I can't fault Ask For Janice. The atmosphere was perfect, the staff so accommodating, the drinks menu well priced and varied and the food absolutely delicious. All my friends commented on how fantastic the venue was and how much nicer it was than some of the more corporate bars nearby. I'm already planning my next visit for brunch. Thank you so much for making my birthday drinks so memorable x Hannah visited Ask For Janice on 12 Aug 2016

I reserved an area in this bar for my birthday drinks after I was let down by another bar on upper street. I have to say the service from my initial call to the goodbye from the staff at the end of the night was exemplary. The staff were attentive, the menu- drinks ( extensive gin list) and food was amazing. The decor was very quirky cool and interesting, The only problems were 1. Janice was no where to be seen and 2. we were so content with the ground floor that i didn't actually make it downstairs to the secret cocktail bar. But that just means I'm guaranteed to go back again soon. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Went for lunch on a busy Friday. Good service. Affordable, well presented main dishes for lunch. I had avocado toast which you find everywhere these days but this was unique with ricotta and pomegranate molasses. Would definitely return. Gabriella visited Ask For Janice on 12 Feb 2016

Last Friday was my first time visiting AFJ, and it is a fun venue with a nice vibe. We had a booking for about 6.30 and by then it was very busy - it actually got less busy later on - which might put some people off as (with the music playing too) it got quite loud. The bar doesn't have cocktails which is a shame, but the wine / beer is reasonably priced. Only downside of the night was trying to order food - we queued at the bar only to be told someone would come to our table. We waited about 20 mins and in the end had to go up again. A bit annoying but the food we got was yummy, that being said, I guess it's what you should expect on a busy Friday night. I would definitely be up for going again. This bar has an exclusive yet affordable feel to it. I really enjoyed the decor both inside and out. The food was really good as were the drinks, I would recommend to not only groups, but to also people wanting an after work drink given its convenient location.

Delicious, wholesome, British food and an outstanding choice of drinks (craft beers and gins especially!) make this a definite go-to, any time of the day or night! Staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and easy on the eye too, which always helps...

I'm a big fan of Graphic Bar as I drink in Soho a lot after work, and am excited about these guys bringing out another spot. Hopefully another cracking haven for after work drinks.
